Myrient is closing March 31, 2026

Ladies and Gentlemen, start hoarding data. If you can a NAS at home, that makes it even better.
I'll download anything that I can, even I have no intentions accessing the data. Attacking video game emulation wasn't enough, they're indirectly "benefiting" from choking host sites out.

Looks like it's peer-to-peer time again, sharing files between users. Less trustworthy, but we don't have many options.

I have a 1TB NVMe
4x240, 1x128, 1x480 spare SSD's, ill stuff-in anything that I can. It would be a pain organizing though

some of them could be removed. there is an app for the ps3 that acts like the psn store and most games barring a few are on there, along with dlc, updates and even themes and avatars. the rest could be removed as long as there is a back up somewhere else on the internet.
same for the wii u. the wiiu usbhelper acts like a digital store front as well. that would just leave xbox/360 games; so the costs should drop quite sharply.
That’s great. But even if there had been no backup, it would have been much cheaper to maintain I assume, and it’s better to have something rather than have everything disappear, right?

I can't believe this shit is happening now of all times. Myrient has been awesome for someone like who was looking for some obscure and hidden gems, including the doujin scene of PC games with what I was able to find. I was able to find some rare DRM-free releases of the official English versions of SUGURI, Acceleration of SUGURI, cloudphobia (though sadly this DRM-free release from DESURA didn't work at all and other users who had it on DESURA can attest to this), The Tale of ALLTYNEX trilogy (KAMUI, RefleX, and ALLTYNEX Second), and the Gundemonium trilogy (Gundemonium, GundeadliGne, and Hitogata Happa). I was also able to discover an official DRM-free release of Skullgirls 2nd Encore that wasn't butchered by Hidden Variable Studios thanks to Myrient, which to me was a godsend because the one I did get from a Humble Bundle deal not only turned out to be an outdated version of the game with none of the DLCs at the time, it was also a buggy piece of crap that ran like dogshit when the Steam release (when I used to have on my account) ran fine on my computer. There are so many other games I want to get from Myrient yet I'm also dealing with dwindling storage space on my end, but now thanks to, I'll have to sacrifice a few things to keep a copy of some these games before they become lost media. I really, really hope this doesn't happen here too.

And taking a page out of Razorfist: God-fuckin'-speed, Myrient, and thank you for all those involved in the name of artistic preservation!

Ok so the consoles i had already finished personal archives of are
snes, n64, gamecube, wii, wii u(really just xcx and kirby rainbow curse), gb, gbc, gba, ds, 3ds, ps1, ps2, psp, saturn, dreamcast

stuff that is on my todo list
-classic sega consoles (genesis/mega drive,sega/mega cd,32x,game gear,master system/mark3, sg1000)
-psvita
-some microsoft consoles (msdos, msx, original xbox)
-nec consoles (pc88,pc98,pc-fx, pc engine/turbografix-16, turbografix cd)
-wonderswan
-snk consoles (neogeo, neogeo cd, neogeo pocket color)
-nes

im currently working on genesis/32x/segacd and then am going to do other classic sega consoles, out of that list what is the highest priority in terms of most danger of being lost

Is there any project being created to replace, or take over the site?
It would be important to keep all those files safe and available.

2/3 of myrient is supposedly saved so far. You can check the google doc to see the progress.
I think the backups are going to archive.org for now but torrents may be in the future.

kind of figured something like this would happen, which is why I wasn't really too concerned with backing up anything myself. Torrents are definitely better than using a central server. Spreads the workload across the community rather than just relying on one guy to keep the lights on.

Oh look, yet another emotional scar left for me to work out, courtesy of this contemporary technological war machine we're all stuck with.

That's awesome. I don't know why I was worried about losing things, it seems like we've a lot of hoarders in our midst! Hopefully another proper direct download solution will pop up for this stuff, since having to rely on torrents for things is less than ideal.

Speaking of which, there are several games that are missing from our Repo here that I had to go to Myrient to download. Mostly Sports games, but I just had to go there to get an N64 Star Wars game. Maybe we could add those back here now?

I found out about this not too long ago and felt gutted. Myrient has always been reliable for getting certain games you may not find elsewhere.

However, there's people hard at work preserving what the site has and creating a mirror for the files. You cut off one head of the Hydra more will spawn.

God speed Myrient. Your spirit will live on

Can't they just have a temporary shutdown or heavily throttle downloads to like 1 file per day?

I agree, but my gov tried last year to block me out torrent sites. I mean, these sites are under attack for a while.
