Personally a big fan of Pokemon black and white sprite and earthbound sprite

the sonic 3 sprite has always irked and haunted me and whenever i look at him i cant tell what to think of him. sometimes i think of him as sonic team leaning too much into americanised sonic because of how rotund he is. at the same time, look how blank his expression is now that hes drawn in more detail with a mouth and all that; and also whats up with that weird shadow on his pupils??? but when i look at him from farther away the colours on his sprite blend together and he looks really well drawn and kind of cute. i really want to read some kind of pixel art analysis on his sprite set because of just how weird he looks. maybe sonic team never planned on kids looking centimetres away from the television back in 1994, and now that we have lcd screens a lot of stuff they didnt intend to be seen are now in full display. i have to say the big hands are adorable though.

Arc the Lad trilogy, it has sooo many little animations for npcs, enemies being defeated, special vista backgrounds… it’s too much!!

Final Fantasy VI is crazy amazing too, that’s still my favourite snes pixel art, especially the machine backgrounds like the magitek facility and Kefka’s tower

Edit: oh I forgot too I really love Spectral Force and Generation of Chaos’ Sprites!

Tales of World Narikiri Dungeon 2 & 3 sprites (which is basically Tales of Eternia's artstyle and reuses a lot of enemy sprites)

- Teenage Years
- The Period Tales of Series was my HYPERFIXATION with Symphonia and Abyss
- The FIRST GBA game I ever Emulated was Narikiri Dungeon (and technically the first Romhack too with combat only translation)
- I ALMOST became a Pixel Artists trying to use this 2D artstyle for my OCs

Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon X would refine the artstyle

I tend to not like much pre-16 bit sprite art, but I always really dug the neutral zone from Yar's Revenge. Such a cool effect.

This guy's presence is massive, he's the biggest (normal) creature in the game. Here's one of his minions for comparison:

He's also the leader of a advanced bird civilization during the Jurassic Era and can even use magic. You're even invited to join him before the boss fight, although saying yes will just boot you to a cutscene of one of the game's alternate endings.

I had a thing for headshots back in the day. Made a game seem more "real" when I got to see a large portrait of the characters involved. Really helped me visualize them and form a mental image.

As a side note, U.N. Squadron may have very well been my first introduction to anime! Didn't take me long to realize that it was based off of Area 88, which I found on tape at my local video store. The rest is history

One of Urien's win poses from Street Fighter 3. I've always loved this one, as it's simultaneously simple and effective at showcasing the character's superiority complex. The slow rise from the flames gives the impression that victory is Urien's expected outcome of a fight. I especially adore how one can feel Urien's self-satisfaction through his silhouette alone.

disgaea 1 sprites are close to my heart cos they were the most demon-like and halloweeny, which was exactly how disgaea was meant to be

the pumpkin was one of my more liked classes cos they looked pretty cool and they had pretty high ATK

but disgaea 2 has their version of majin like in disgaea 1

and the omega sentinel rank was way too fucking cool

but Maou Zeta is my favourite NIS character hands down

he's just too fucking hard

First time I played "Seiken Densetsu 3" with English patch on emu on pc, I was amazed by the detail of their shoes put beside the bed. No idea why, but it felt "cozy", lovely, a very nice detail about these heroes that go to sleep in a warm and comfortable place after many battles.
