Beautiful sprite art

I've never understood the Sega vs Nintendo war

People are just very tribal about everything. Its the great ape in us all

Could somebody explains why it cannot show? Even on Discord it cannot generate a thumbnail.

This is mostly because the way things are developed it takes a very long time to adapt new formats and codecs. Worse still is the hodgepodge of slapped together and duck taped code that the entire internet system, both front-end and back-end is built on.

I feel that on the Internet if you say "I like/prefer vanilla" there will be people telling how Chocolate is actually better or that people that prefer vanilla are either too safe or not daring enough for spicier tastes.

I don't know if this is the same for cinema or music but I've grown tired of people trying to lower others because of their taste while claiming they got better ones for liking obscure stuff.

and then you'll be flooded with a billion youtube video essays about how the Chocolate Iceberg goes deeper than you know, or how Vanilla was always trash and you just never realized it.

Also Dual Orb 2 has nice pixel sprite model despite the game for me is a mediocre in term of story and its gameplay

Don't make me get started on that wave of (pseudo)-intellectual analysis of media and modern video essay on Youtube that love using an artificially complex vocabulary to sound smarter than it is.

But that's not the right topic to speak about it my bad.

Kirby's Adventure is genuinely beautiful for a NES game

For me it's either Mega Man Zero series or X4-6 they all have such amazing pixel art and I especially love X4 and ZX they look gorgeous

What's some of your favorite sprite art? I have tons of good candidates to post, but I just couldn't stop mentioning this incredibly smooth and detailed hummingbird from Kolibri (SEGA 32X).

I don't know if it's just nostalgia, but I have such a soft spot for 8bit era (and earlier) sprites. Even when they're kinda wonky lol, they're still very endearing to me. There's just something very cute about them.

A few of my favorites would be the ones from Megami Tensei and Pokemon Yellow.

My very, very favorites have to be top-down games for the Gameboy. The colors looked so vibrant inviting, and to have these huge worlds on a portable system made them feel even bigger than they were.
I've said this before but I just adore how limited graphics makes your imagination fill in the gaps, and these hit JUST right for me. I have a particular fondness for Link's Awakening DX and Pokémon GSC specifically.

I absolutely love the sprite art in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, it's incredibly expressive and has an art style very similar to a Saturday morning cartoon, It's very sad that the remake ended up removing a lot of the personality of the original sprites, I like the remake even with these changes.

Something about the Atari-esque minimalist graphics in FAITH: The Unholy Trinity and roguelike tilesets intrigues me. The rotoscoped lineart cutscenes in the former are really cool too.
