What's some of your favorite sprite art? I have tons of good candidates to post, but I just couldn't stop mentioning this incredibly smooth and detailed hummingbird from Kolibri (SEGA 32X).

If I were to give Mega Man X4 a credit for anything, it would be for having some of the prettiest pixel art on the PSX.

yeah! the pc-98 is an incredible source for inspiring sprite work. i think the sprites in valkyrie profile (psx) are really good; there's something about the party menus in that game, and the iconic opening. sometimes i boot the game up, just to check out the design.

also, toriyama's monster designs; in particular, dragon quest 3 on super famicom

Shinobi III Return of the Ninja Master in '93

I cannot think of many but the Genesis still could offer despite its technical limitations compared to the SNES.

glad to see someone else with an appreciation for pc88/98 graphics.

I also have a nostalgic love of dos graphics, even if few of us managed to achieve the better resolutions back in the day.

They have a texture I cannot properly describe either.

I do enjoy the actually made anime frames but the PC-98 look is just special.

I've never understood the Sega vs Nintendo war in the 00's when it has been over for a decade. Not that I was really active in forums but honestly I got disappointed about people still fighting over instead of being glad that both were great.

Either by telling lies (like "Genesis cannot make good music" because of mostly western composers using GEMS), claiming that things like Mode 7 is why the SNES is superior (it was cool but it's not like there weren't pseudo-3D effects on the Genesis either and parallaxes will always look better and ageless overall).

Late Genesis titles really could pass as a Saturn one (like Alien Soldier)

My blind guess would be that it was masking the then still on going Mario x Sonic rivalry, which I also found a bit silly to have gone on as long as it did. But hey we got some cool flash games out of it.

Honestly Mario's rival was Pac-Man during the 8-bits era, many companies had mascots (Capcom had Megaman, Konami had that penguin, etc...) until the grittier PS360 era (even if Master Chief could've been Microsoft's and that cat was only for Sony Japan).

Ironically the only thing that ended the console war was Sony arriving because of Nintendo and they basically won it for two gens as they both struggled (which Sega sadly couldn't recover much from it and Nintendo barely made it out by shifting its focus in the mid 00's).

People online often act less wise whereas irl Sega and Nintendo fans would go take a drink together while reminiscing the good old days.

I don't get Avif either...

Legitimately had to look up the Konami penguin because it both felt like something i should know or something I do know but got heavily repressed in my conscious. I found out who he is and he’s literally just a penguin called Penguin. Amazing.

Yup PC98 is the best on that regard,most talented artists doing works on this platform
