I'd still argue that the cryptic hints and even some villagers telling some blatant misinformation was not a good game design idea.

Sometimes it's not just "because it was different".
I won´t argue aginst that what so ever but as I now got older and finished both game I enjoyed them I mean as you said cryptic hints and such was bad design and I fully agree but they are not bad in it self they are kind of fun.

And honestly compared to allot of LJN games they are pure gold >.<

Thankfully nowadays you have romhacks that fixes the game without removing the experience by making it too easy. The retranslation hack is what I go by if I wanted to play it.

Ah yes. But I'd argue that comparing with something worse doesn't make something else intrinsically good.

Yeah that´s true dumb comparison but I was more thinking compared to allot of LJN games these are playable and don´t suck away the fun they just have some dumb mechanics like what a horrible night to have a curse yeah it was dumb as hell but delet that and it´s not that bad. I enjoyed it more than I taught I would. Some LJN games are broken as hell or game play so bad it´s not fun hey lets collect clocks.

:)

I played it after watching AVGN video and many others saying how bad was it but in the end it wasn't that bad i got the feeling that the game was "quoting AVGN a bit of a nintendo power game" since the NPC give very vague information and death mountain was guide or die trying i don't remember if they gave you some clue in saria town tbh but i went in blind and had to use a guide.

AVGN is thankfully a character but I feel that too many around are repeating what he's saying without actually trying the game...

I can hear it now.

Blame the Gameboy soundchip having similar sounds around.

On the other hand I kinda liked Ralph as a "pseudo rival" character to Link that had his parallel adventure.
i love the soundchip. I'm just pointing out some similarity between Zelda and Pokemon. Also Pokemon sort of ripped off Zelda with the second movie being about collecting 3 magic stones and playing an ocarina. :p

True enough it almost made me not play the game because when someone that big says X and other people by default says the same is like reading a warning, unless you feel curiosity you tend to steer away. I find his videos double edge, since he might make some people not play certain games but also talks about games most people might not even know about and make them try them

AVGN didn't really make a video about Zelda II until much later on after all his other more justified NES videos. lol It's like after you go and hate on the more obvious ones like bootlegs, movie tie in games and LJN, what's left? Zelda II? Another Castlevania video? I can see why he started branching out and covering more recent stuff after that like Big Rigs. Kinda miss the old cast though. The new dude is kinda offputting.

I am seeing how getting all 8 badges is similar to have to complete 8 dungeons to get the 8 mcguffins in Zelda games.

On a side note...
...is there a lore reason why Ganondorf in Wind Waker didn't have a proper beast form Ganon? Only a puppet replicating that shape. Perhaps because he could finally control it (both metaphorically and literally)?

Big Rigs is over 20 years old so not that recent at least.

Who btw? I don't really recall most of the cast aside from James himself.

I think he means about the writers and mike being out, also the fact that the nerd now rarely plays any game he reviews.

i found this on google while looking this up [google's ai compiled this]:
In The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Ganondorf does not transform into Ganon (his beast form) because he has changed. He is no longer driven solely by rage and a desire for destruction. Instead, he is portrayed as a more complex character, motivated by a desire to rebuild Hyrule and ensure the prosperity of his people, even if his methods are still villainous.

Here's a more detailed explanation:
  • Change in Motivation:
In The Wind Waker, Ganondorf's primary motivation is no longer simply to conquer and destroy. He expresses a desire to rebuild Hyrule and provide a place for his people, the Gerudo, to live.

  • Suppressed Rage:
Ganondorf's centuries-long imprisonment and the subsequent flood have tempered his rage. He has become more introspective and nostalgic, even if he remains selfish and power-hungry.

  • Focus on Strategy:
Instead of relying on brute strength, Ganondorf in The Wind Waker is portrayed as a cunning strategist. He sets traps for Link and attempts to manipulate events to his advantage.

  • Acceptance of his Fate:
In the game's climax, Ganondorf even acknowledges the cyclical nature of conflict between him, Link, and Zelda. He accepts his role as the antagonist and fights Link to the end, but with a more nuanced perspective than in previous games.
Essentially, the Wind Waker depicts a Ganondorf who has evolved, even if his goals remain ultimately destructive. He is not simply a mindless beast, but a complex character with a tragic backstory and a desire for something more than just power.

While I like the idea of a Ganondorf that isn't just "that evil dude who wanna conquer the kingdom" I would've appreciated not to rely on AI to answer as sometimes AI can also repeat anything being told (including false things such as recommending to add glue to pizza to make it more firm).

Too bad Nintendo went back to Ganondorf being like his OoT incarnation in TP (I don't know about TotK's).

I think I read that the more benevolent-ish side of him was a localization change, but I can't source this atm.

Ah yeah, localisation in Zelda games aren't always consistent?

I've found something:

there was a video suggested by the ai that went over this in detail, but i thought it would just be the same info so i didn't include it. i'll have to look for it now.

sometimes things have to be changed when bringing something over from one language to another. japanese seems to be notorious for hidden context. i don't have a better way of phrasing it, but from what i observed, it could be any number of reasons that things are changed for the english version. some stuff might just sound awkward in english, or it might just need a bit of rewording to get the same meaning across. some phrase in japanese can't be translated over. there's no english equivalent to whatever phrase that they use over there. i'm fully convinced at this point that how the word is said or written changes what it means. kami means both "God" and "paper".
this was so prevalent in skies of arcadia, that the localizers had to rewrite the entire script to make it readable to americans..
androids 17 and 18 are called cyborg 17 and 18 in literally every other language except in english. my favorite superhero is referred to a "super battle android" when the better description is cybernetic magical girl. and there are more examples of this.

I've done Link's Awakening Gameboy just so I can say I've done every versions of the game (I know that DX can also be played in B&W mode while having the newer added content).

I've done the Switch remake twice (one in Heroic mode) and the GB version in 100% (getting every seashells and every heart pieces so I would have the L-2 sword and max health).

My next Zelda game is Fourswords Adventure because Wind Waker made me a bit too tired to tackle Skyward Sword HD or Twilight Princess GC.

Did you 100% the photo album in DX?

Did you 100% the photo album?
That's an extra quest from the DX version.

This is probably why I never bothered 100%-ing the game when I did that version years ago (when I did the Oracle Duology so I was tempted to do LADX since I was stuck before the 7th dungeon and didn't know what to do).

I was never fan of permanently missable things that you couldn't fully guess without a guide (like the pics with Marina). Same reason why I didn't do that same photo quest in Wind Waker.

One of my favourite design. ALTTP, LA, the Oracle games and ALBW's Link are more or less inspired by that one (and Zelda 1's) yet I feel like OoT's Adult Link is now the basis for 3D Zelda and Toon Link for top down entries.

AoL's Link was clearly more experienced and was slightly older.

Shame that Smash Bros has completely ignored that Link. We got OoT, TP and BotW being represented as well as Toon Link but no skin to represent his Classic look... Young Link could've also been his MM's appearance as well.

And if his cross would be too religious they could replace it by Hylia's symbol.
