Super Mario Thread

not weird at all. Super Mario Bros. Deluxe was on Game Boy Color right before it. That was the first time the original Super Mario Bros. was made handheld in all it's full color glory. That was a big deal.
I think having a remake of SMW as a launch title would've made more sense.

Agreed. ALTTP GBA and SMW GBA would've suited the console better imo.

Also it's weird how SMB3 was the last Mario Advance games and that Yoshi's Island was counted in the mix (yes I know, it was called Super Mario World 2 but Yoshi's games are technically parts of the Yoshi series rather than Mario's like how Wario Land and Donkey Kong Country, being set in the same world as Mario's, are also separate franchises).

Yoshi's Island was probably in higher demand. That was the first time I played it. Freaking loved it!

I came to admit that I despise World 7 in Super Mario 3. I always hated it and even the music and level structure, as well as the world graphics. I think it's ugly and stupid.

Next time I play SMB3, I'm gonna save all my clouds and P-Wings and just breeze through all of World-7 with them.

Being good at a thing, and appreciating it's artistic value are fundamentally different aspects of enjoying any medium.

Recently the Super Mario Bros Super Show celebrated it's 31st(?) anniversary. So much love for this show. Yeah, it was hammy and corny, but damn if it didn't have a lot of heart

This was the only tape I had of it and i rewatched it as a kid over and over again. I really didn't see the show much when it was on television, bad timing I guess. But i knew this one single episode. It even had the live action segments: the one where Mario gets hit in the head and thinks he's a bird/monkey, and the one where Mario and Luigi's cousins come to visit and it's just both of them in drag. lol

I just finished Super Mario Bros FULLY for, I believe the first time. I had it pointed out to me that most people only ever play by beelining to the warp zones, and I realized I was absolutely part of that problem. So, I decided to take the time to do a full 32 level run to see how it would go.

The full 32 is a much more full feeling experience, with a very fulfilling variety of level themes, obstacles, and a legendarily fleshed out learning curve. My only issues came from those maze castles (which can be questionably cryptic to a frustrating degree. Nobody likes dying because the game suddenly became a game of pick your poison) and from… them.

If Satan had a face in the Mario universe, it would be the Mario 1 Blooper. And I know we all hate Hammer Bros., rest assured they’re still the cause of most nonsense deaths due to their hammer having a hitbox before it’s even out of their hands, but the Blooper’s kills are all by design. They’ll be totally pacifist until you enter their domain, in which they’ll sway side to side in a perfect rhythm to trap and kill you. Just like a real oceanic predator! The scariest part of my playthrough was when I went into an alcove around World 3 to get some coins for a one up, only to be grouped up on by two of them who trapped and murked me without Mario having any say in the matter. Plus, negotiating with one at the end of 8-4 is truly diabolical, paired with the hellish Hammer Bro. placed right after as a middle finger to your patience.

The most memorable and my favorite stages in the game are 2-3 and the later 7-3. The long bridge with Cheep Cheeps hopping up from below is one of the most memorable and beautiful images in an older title like this, while also being decently challenging.

All in all, it was a fun playthrough. I’ll have to go back again though, as I took things easy on myself and played using NSO while laying on the couch. To my credit, I’ve spent the whole day dealing with healthcare woes and fighting with vehicle insurance, so I just needed something nice to play for the afternoon, but that doesn’t change that I still played on baby mode thanks to the power of save states. And rewind, which was mainly reserved for castles and their nonsense mazes, but that still bites. The next time I’ll play, it’ll be on the Wii Virtual Console, as I think that’s one of the better ways to play today.

In short, fun game, go play all 32 levels if you’ve never done it, and Bloopers can rot in the same place they spawned from.

I forgot about the trick of pressing A + Start to continue. I may do a full run with that in mind.

It's weird to know that the game had 32 levels in total. How did this fit the cartridge?

I still love Mario and Zelda, despite Nintendo going back into a non-consumer friendly rut once again.

That said, super mario bros all stars was the first mario game I played on a friends snes and I loved the games so much, made me wish I had a super nintendo at the time, I had a sega genesis.

These days I love galaxy and paper mario thousand year door the most, alongside oddyssey.

3d land is also a favourite.

Mario kart 8 deluxe is also the best racing game ever made!, no question

Has anybody here checked out Super Mario Bros. Remastered? I've been playing a little bit of it on and off, and it's a ton of fun! I love the incorporation of the physics and level themes from Mario Maker, they breath so much new life into the game.
