Super Mario Thread

I was fortunate to grow up during Mario mania. When I first played Mario Bros, I thought it was okay, it just felt like any other arcade game (single screen, repetitive). But when I played Super Mario Bros, it felt like an epic adventure through a varied and crazy world! There was no other game out there at the time that had levels with so much variety (water levels, underground, in the clouds, etc).

When Mario Bros 2/USA came out, it only further highlighted how weird the Mario universe was. Its weirdness was part of the reason I was so interested in the Mario universe. I wanted to know everything about it!

I remember I used to own this sticker book that my parents bought for me at a grocery store. You had to buy card packs that contains stickers to put in the book. The pages also had hidden images and messages that you had to reveal with a decoder. For a kid who was obsessing over every piece of lore about this strange world, this book was a goldmine!

By that time my hype for Super Mario Bros 3 was at an all time high, especially when it was teased during the movie The Wizard. I don't even remember anything from that movie other than it showing SMB3 for the first time!

I'm so happy Nintendo hasn't tried to rebrand Mario like many other companies do with their franchises. It's pretty much one of the last few things left from my youth that hasn't been tarnished.

I wish Peach Showtime could run at 60fps. Still looks alright but jeez. Game is alright but it's frustrating when you miss a Sparkle Gem and you gotta re-do the level(s) aaaaaaaaaaall over again.

I do like that! Is it possible that GBA has the best suite of system variations that Nintendo has ever done? It’s between it, the GB Pocket, and the 3DS for me.
