Finished Super Mario World (with a wide-screen hack via BSNES HD)!

And it's also a masterpiece!

PS:I love this theme

I want to show that the Western and Japanese release of the game had different names for the enemies

So... What are the actually best Super Mario World hacks?

Is the GBA port good? I also wanna try the bootleg NES demake.

Also what's the deal with the Super Mario All-Star + Super Mario World build of the game? Is it different (besides Luigi having his own sprite-sheet)?

And I've finished Super Mario Odyssey (yes, I'm a bit late but it was worth it).

Mario 64 DS was fine but I still think the decompilation of the N64 version are better ways to play it.

I used a hack that allows a joystick to be used.

Now I'm tackling Super Mario Galaxy 2 (as the last remaining 3D Mario game I have to finish) and New Super Mario Bros. (which I haven't played in like a decade if not more).

So I've finished Galaxy 2 (the last world had some good levels but it's sometimes tedious to get enough star bits for the Hungry Lumas).

And NSMB on the DS, I feared it wouldn't age well but it's a pretty neat game

I should've played the game with that hack but it's not a big deal, the original is still fairly playable via emulation

I'm thinking of doing a pause with Mario but I really want to do Galaxy 1 and Newer Super Mario Bros. DS as it's considered to be an excellent hack that surpassed NSMB U and 2 for many.

Galaxy 1 is definitely better than 2 yet both are great.

Why that small part of the game goes so hard with its soundtrack?

I've decided to take back the game just so I could do World 4 and World 7 and I think it's too bad they have locked them behind beating the World 2 and World 5 bosses as Mini Mario because they had some of the most fun and creative levels in the game.

Maybe it's to make it fair to the young audience so they wouldn't get alienated but having 6 worlds in total didn't feel enough for a side scroller with rather short levels (it worked fine for Galaxy 2).

Also this theme is heavenly

I don't know if I want to do the lettered levels but they also seem nice to try as they're usually more challenging.

Now I'll probably do 3D Land but I also want to finally do and complete Super Mario Advance 4 (which is Mario Bros. 3).

Agreed. Many people claim that Galaxy 2 is better, but it feels more like a level expansion compared to a new game. I don't like the levels quite as much (obviously there's exceptions), and the hub world being on the ship instead of having a big observatory was a big downgrade in my opinion. That said, Galaxy 2 is a masterpiece still.

As much as roaming in the Ship was interesting to do I think there was more going on in the Observatory. When I finished a star I immediately went for the next Galaxy.

I always felt that traveling the world map was less convenient than seeing the 5 galaxies at once per areas (although going to the engine room or cellar was also kind of annoying as you had to travel all the way up in the Observatory). I wish they allowed an option to directly choose which Galaxy to do in the Switch port.

PS: I also find that Galaxy 1 had more iconic and memorable levels and missions than 2 but I haven't done them all so I cannot fully tell.

I've 100% Galaxy 1 three times, and Galaxy 2 twice and I agree, lol.

100% as in doing every Stars then the Green Stars? They are apparently hard as hell to get.

What I like about the Mario games (and Nintendo games around) is that the games are fairly easy until you go for the post-game/100% so everyone, casual and hardcore, can find their fun.

I tried to summarise the entire mainline franchise with both Mario Wikis (sorry if some dates are wrong I tried to verify them but I'm not entirely sure for every):

Maybe it's a generic take, but platformers are one of my favorite genres. I love 2d platformers, and my love for 3d platformers was solidified after Mario 64.
The green stars aren't exactly easy to get, but I certainly wouldn't consider them EXTREMELY difficult.

Fully agreed though, Nintendo games have their own levels of difficulty depending on what the player decides to do. It's been annoying as of recently because games like Mario Wonder lacked that challenge in my opinion. Even the secret final levels I didn't find particularly hard. Still a great game but I wish there was high difficulty.

Platformers are a consistent genre when it comes to good franchises. Sad that many genres have changed in ways I'm not always fan of.

They're like secret stars without any actual hint to get them?

I wished the expansion would've provided challenges as well.

Hopefully their next game would give us a better post game.
