Mega Man Megathread

Currently listening to the MM8 and X3 Japanese openings.

Though, I fear that this might be another project 06 case of people now saying that the original was good all along because of the fan remake that makes it excellent by reworking it entirely. Not naming this something like X6 Remake was for the best since it's too different. (but it still stomps on the original either way)
Yeah... And even then P-06 still lacks several things from the game so you have the incomplete experience.

Mega Man V beaten!

Overall a nice game and it's impressive for the aged Gameboy hardware and I also appreciate the use of original Robot Masters (the Stardroids) instead of recycling the ones from the NES games. However I do feel like IV is a bit more creative in its level design.

I still liked the 4 crystals to incite to redo the levels for a bonus upgrade and seeing back the four Mega Man killers from the previous entries.

I'll probably try the DX romhacks of them someday.

It's finally the time for a hiatus but I'll have Xtreme and Xtreme 2 to do on the GBC soon.

Might be my odd taste, but I do kinda prefer the GBA OST for Mega Man and Bass over the SNES OST mostly. Especially this track and Tengu Man's.

The Gameboy games really got some good stuff.

Damn i am so exited,
I hope cactus man or sweeper woman wins.
I'm glad to see a new contest done like what they did before.

The full game list by release order (From: https://www.reddit.com/r/Megaman/comments/qwyozt/a_list_of_games_to_play_in_release_order/)
1772802714500.png

Games in italics are not quite "main" games but not quite spin-offs either. For example, the Game Boy games (Dr. Wily's Revenge, II, III, IV, V, Xtreme, Xtreme 2) aren't "main" entries in the series, but they play like the main entries and have totally unique levels, as well as introducing some unique bosses and game mechanics. Because of this, some people consider them main games, and others don't. There's lots of different types of these non-main major entries, such as X: Command Mission (a JRPG), and Network Transmission (a sidescroller set in the usually-RPG Battle Network series).

Everyone has their own definition for what counts as a "main" game. I think it's safe to say that a list of "main" entries would include Mega Man 1-11, X1-8, Zero 1-4, ZX, and ZX Advent, but many would argue that this excludes several games that are definitely "main," such as Mega Man & Bass, which is considered by many fans (and even by it's own code) as Mega Man 8.5. Sometimes "side" games are explicitly mentioned in "main" games, such as the Erasure Incident from Xtreme 2 being mentioned in X6. So while Xtreme 2 isn't necessarily a "main" game, it provides backstory that enhances the experience of the "main" games. I generally didn't include remakes on this list, even though they can be great content (i.e. Mega Man Powered Up), however I did include Rockman EXE Operate Shooting Star. It's a remake of Battle Network 1, but it has a whole extra bonus chapter connecting to the story of the Star Force series. I also included The Wily Wars, a remake of Mega Man 1-3, because it contains an additional short bonus game called Wily Tower.

The Mega Man franchise is divided into several series as follows: Classic, X, Legends, Battle Network (EXE in Japan), Zero, Star Force (Shooting Star in Japan), and ZX. The Classic, X, Zero, and ZX series are primarily sidescrolling platformers, with each series throwing in it's own spin on the formula. The Legends series is an action-RPG series (think 3D Zelda). The Battle Network and Star Force series are pseudo-turn-based card-battler RPGs. There's a direct storyline from the Classic -> X -> Zero -> ZX series, with Legends taking place in the far future. Battle Network and Star Force take place in a separate universe from the others.

All of this stuff is why I generally reccomend not playing in release order, because if you do, you'll be jumping around between different genres, storylines, and universes as you make your way through the franchise. For example, near the end of this list, you'll be rapidly switching between the PS2 X platformers, Zero/ZX metroidvanias, Battle Network RPGs, retro-revival classic platformers, and Star Force RPGs. If this constant change is ok with you or even if you think that makes it more interesting, by all means go for it - but it might get a little chaotic.

The chances of Sweeper Woman to win are the lowest. But if she wins, then capcom become more open minded about female bosses in the classic era

Cactus/Juggle/Recycle man looks more like a classic era Megaman boss, Cleaser man and Valve man looks like a X era boss

Who? Which design was his?

I agree about female bosses but I feel like it was made to have an impact with MM8 being a revival game.

Cleanser and Valve aren't Maverick looking to me.

Cleaser look like it comes from the same factory as Axle the Red/Spike Rosered. Valve just follow the "cool" factor that retro era doesnt follow, but can be a boss like Dynamo.

Sweeper Woman looks like the wild card of the possible winners. If she looked a bit more "cartoonish" then she could go well with retro era

Found the Jada toys Mega Man today at a local comic shop.

I couldn’t in good faith ignore him. I have a couple complaints, like how the determined/angry look and happy/cheerful look are locked to certain heads, but the vast majority of my time here was fantastic. He’s such a genuine joy to pose, he can pull off a lot of poses, and it feels like one of those figures where the only major limit to what he can do is your imagination. I don’t do figure photography too often, but I felt I had to for this guy.

Please ignore the… “interesting” games in the background. When my fiancé and I merged our game collections, she brought along some childhood Wii shovelware that she was like “this is trash. We HAVE to play this together!”

A size comparison with a variety of the knickknacks around my game room. I didn’t realize that I had amassed so many!

MM11 had some Robot Masters that could've passed as Reploids but I feel like the series has changed things a bit since at least MM VII.

Bomberman is cute there.

I think that this bigger variety in designs is a good thing, most NES RMs were like that because of limitations. 7, 8 and MM&B (the last one specially) have good complex designs that still feel Mega Man -esque.

My only thing is that some fan-designs are too overdesigned like some of the 20 from the contest.

Yeah, it seems that some designs failed to note that this boss is meant to be for classic era megaman

And the robot masters goes more to the simple and clean way. I mean, almost all looks like megaman but with different size and the armor on top of their body

I know we are like... kinda saturated on re-releases and remakes as it is... but it would be fun to have see what megaman would look like if the classic series was made today. modern designs for all the robot masters. Despite the absolute waste of everyone's time it was... I kinda liked the designs of Fireman, Drillman, Waveman and Elecman from fully charged, and it made me want to see the whole gang have that much effort put into them.

Maybe if there was a reboot, but so far almost everyone loves the style that has been since they started to care about design for their comics/toys

Not to mention that nother style could be used for another timeline of megaman (if so, i wonder if capcom will ever finish a saga like Zero did)

I forgot about Mega Man Fully Charged...

I plan on getting the legacy collection as well, but mostly because I am invested at this point in steam achievements for all megaman titles. I'll most likely be revisiting SF1DX for marathons.

Man, I need to beat the rest of megaman game before megaman dual override or else I'll DIE !!!!!!!!
The ones I'm missing are:
Megaman 7 -10
Megaman X6 anda X8
(And Xtreme 1 and 2)
Zero 3 and 4
Legends 1 and 2
Megaman ZX anda advent
(Two years ago I was playing Mega Man ZX, but I gave the phone I had it on to a friend who needed a phone)
Battle network 3-6
And StarForce 1-3
