Mega Man X #1 Mini-review

Mega Man X #1 cover

I enjoyed this issue slightly more than the previous ones, mostly because of Storm Eagle's writing. I liked how the game's mechanic of Storm Eagle's ship crashing after his defeat and disabling electricity in Spark Mandrill's stage is incorporated into and justified by the story. X sparing and trying to save Storm Eagle was a nice touch as well.

Here's X being an angry boi.

X being angry at Storm Eagle for betraying Maverick Hunters

I'm watching the MMBN OVA and while it's nice it has too much of a Yugioh/Digimon feel since it was that epoch.

In a way this reminds me of Shaman King as well.

But I like the NetNavi version of familiar characters from Mega Man. Since they're AI programs and not robots they have a design that don't need to follow "mechanical rules" with their shape.

Now I can do the Wonderswan sequel to MM&B, X2 on the SNES and/or the PSP remake of X1 since I've done Powered Up.

Heh, this feels like this level select in a way

the wonsderswan sequel is on the very short list of megaman games I have not beat. good luck!

The design liberties that can be taken with NetNavis make them stand out a lot, their shapes are very artificial, but not mechanical and even ones that are human shaped still don't feel organic per se. Just good designs all around.

I know it's because the series' from the 00's but it reminds me of the redesign Astro Boy's Strongest Robots got for the '03 anime reboot.

I saw this video a while ago

Some designs are cool some others are maybe too different but I guess that Robot Masters in 8 out of the 12 games (MM&B included) were made with the NES sprite limitations in mind.

Too bad Zero is the only NetNavi so far to be based on MMX rather than Classic MM

PS: I didn't know that Blast Man debuted as a NetNavi before having his Robot Master incarnation!

Also I've finished Mega Man III GB.

oh sick! I gotta give that a try. I really do like X6 despite everything, and I think it deserves some love.

I'm halfway into Mega Man IV on the Gameboy. The Rockman World series is gradually getting better as it goes on.

Wily's Revenge and MM II were decent but not that great while III was cool and now IV is really when the sub-series starts to shine.

He's like the direct predecessor to Bass in some way.

I've thought that too. he got the whole redeemable rival thing going on. I look forward to your thoughts on V... it's probably one of the best classic games overall. at least I think so. I also love the music and boss designs quite a bit. especially the electric one with wings.

I need to motivate myself into doing it but I feel some "fatigue" about the franchise, V shall be the last game I'd do and technically that would mean that aside from Mega Man and Bass: Challenger from the Future I would've done every Classic Mega Man games on handhelds.

Is MM&B still canonical despite that it's more or less a retelling of MM8 with a different antagonist? Is Bass in MM10 remotely canon or just a "what if" bonus mode?

I feel like the WS game may not be canon (or at least not that relevant to the mainline story).

I hope that Dual Override could add Bass as a post-game bonus of some sort.

PS: If D.O. ends up with a shot of X in his stasis chamber or have the blueprints of this model shown somewhere I would be glad.

Megaman and Bass IS canon, it was confirmed in Megaman 9's ending if you recall. even if it JUST showed Megaman, I like to imagine the 2 worked together taking down the robots and king... but that's just headcannon.

It's hard to say if WS is canon, especially considering it deals with the quint timeline, which already is super weird when X exists. I'm pretty WS has never been referenced again?

I don't think the stories of Protoman or Bass in 10 are canon... at least, they weren't the ones to take out Wily, they might have been sick and did their own thing. I feel like Bass needs to be part of duel override, I hate how much 11 ignored him and Protomans existence.

personally, of all the series connections, I feel like Classic to X might be both the most mysterious... and the one I am the least interested in exploring XD

I think X to Zero would be sick as hell, and there is room for stories between zero and ZX... not to mention we never got that third ZX game that presumably lead into legends.

Mega Man burnout is real. I gotta put Mega Man & Bass and X3 to the side for now and play a goddamn JRPG or a platformer or just anything else for a bit. I never thought I would get tired of playing Mega Man but sheesh, I just beat like 12 games in a row.

We, as a society, really don't bash Mega Man X3 enough.
I'll be honest, yeah? it's got some weird ass decisions and really isn't on par with the first two despite having "more on paper"
and while I wouldn't say it's "bad" it certainly has a pretty weak soundtrack, which is a big no no for megaman in general.
The Zero project is a hack I kind of can't fail to include in my marathons

Thanks for the answer.

11 was probably a clean slate for newcomers.

Funnily enough I've done the same thing except I'm playing the Street Fighter II games (plus Alpha 2 on the SNES because it was on it).

I've pretty much played almost every iterations of Street Fighter II at that point.

You don't like playing games that are fundamentally the same 12 times in a row? What are you, a coward? /joking

I see the "/joking" but you can say that about almost every game series outside of spin-offs at that point, whether it's Metal Gear Solid, Zelda, anything.

I've been playing Legends 1 and having a good time. Recently i've also concluded 3 of the gameboy games (World 4 and 5 are still pending) and i have paused my playthrough of BN 2, but i will pick it up again.

BTW, Proto Man is the GOAT

Looks great. Hopefully Zero will be playable too

Huh its out? Hmmmm ill have to try it.
It's amazing. I wanted to defend X6 for the things that got right but it just wasn't possible in any way. But this is on another whole level so far.

I like the way the story got rewritten and expanded, the smooth movement and the very cinematic flair that all five levels have (which are AMAZING, I can't find real flaws in them, even less compared to the original ones)

Though, I fear that this might be another project 06 case of people now saying that the original was good all along because of the fan remake that makes it excellent by reworking it entirely. Not naming this something like X6 Remake was for the best since it's too different. (but it still stomps on the original either way)

But why should that even matter? This thing is gold and every time a MMX fangame releases (even if a demo) it's worth celebrating, even more when the quality is this high.

People have been saying nonsense like this for years now.
