Mega Man Megathread

Why is X doing a Kamehameha?
Actually he stole this technique from Ryu

I think the plasma shot in X4 is awesome, but I'll never get over the arm which doesn't go with the rest of the armour. Four shot is clearly the proper arm for the armour looks wise but I don't like using it.

Yellow Devil and MM2 Willy Castle how original...

Seems that only MM1, 2 and 11 exist for anything like this. ::moogle-sleep

I mean, if you are going to only have 1 stage, it's probably the best choice. I don't exactly see a game where we get Darkman 3s castle level or the Jet stingray ocean escape as an option unless we got a LOT of Megaman content. Honestly I'm more sad there is no Roll around.

That being said... why no balloon dragon?

I'm just curious about what people think 'cause I'm definitely in the minority, but what is y'all's favorite Mega Man?
This includes every main subseries (Classic, X, Zero, ZX, Legends, BN, and StarForce)
Really it could be any Mega Man game you want, as long as its one of or a few of your top favorites.

You can also explain why it is that its your favorite.
Me personally, I'm a psychopath that likes my Mega Man tough as nails.
My favorite is Mega Man & Bass, with the close second being Zero 1, because its hard, and it also just has the coolest vibe to me in the zero series/entire series.

Mega Man Legends is my favorite. The PSP games are a close second, followed by 11.
As someone who lived through the NES era my game selection was limited back then and entirely random. As such I never was lucky enough to play a single NES or SNES Mega Man game during the time when they were new. It wasn't until the PlayStation followed by the GBA that I was able to experience the series.

It's a simple answer, but Megaman 2. Improved on the first one and made it feel so good and clean. Story presented in like two sentences at the beginning, no having to charge shots like crazy, no sliding, no bullshit-ass Protoman showing up to break up the flow of whatever level you're on, just 'go kill this log man and take his leaf power.' Good times.

Mega man X3 on the playstation. It was released in europe and Japan, we didn't have the 2D ban that the US had when it came to PlayStation games. It was my introduction to mega man, I like many mega man games but If I had to pick a favourite, it would be X3.

Mega Man 2 since it was the first MM game I completed as a young one. I do adore the rest of the Classic series from MM3, MM5, MM6, MM7, MM4, MM8 even the original MM. As for the later titles MM9, MM10, and MM11 they're decent in their own ways. Anticipating MM Dual Override.

Mega Man X2 similarly since it was the first MMX game I completed way back when. But I do also love MMX, MMX3, and of course MMX4. MMX5 and MMX8 are also solid. I understand the sentiment on MMX6 and MMX7 but tolerate them for what they are- although they're near (if not bottom) of the series.

As for spin-offs I recently played, finished: Mega Man & Bass which was incredible, I will go with that. Runner-ups will be MM Powered Up and MMX Maverick Hunter. Others were good like MM Legends (MML2), MM Power Battles, MM2 Power Fighters. The rest from MM Battle & Chase, MM Soccer, MM That's Paradise, and especially MM Super Adventure left much to be desired.

I've only played half of the handheld games from GB, GBC, WSC, GBA, NGP/NGPC, NDS, PSP. And a few collections on GEN, PS2, GC for example. And haven't played MMX Command Mission, MMX Dive, or Street Fighter X Mega Man yet.

That's where my interest for MM franchise ends. As for neighboring series Zero, MMZX, Battle Network, MM Star Force and other spin-offs like MM Network Transmission I've tried getting into them to no avail.

While I enjoy World 5, I always keep coming back to this one for how straightforward the level design is for replays. It’s damn fun, & with the GBC hack.. It’s even better.

ZX, MM&B for SNES and the X8 16-bit demake.

ZX (ZXA too) is still unique to this day with its hopeful and melancholic environments and silky smooth gameplay, I want to see eventually a true metroidvania that uses the form changing as the core of the gameplay (Berserk Boy got close but it was on linear levels)

And MM&B is very underrated. I don't consider it to be that difficult compared to the bs other classic MM titles throw constantly, if anything, the game is consistently challenging and that's for the best. This is what MM8 should have been.

The X8 demake is excellent and objectively better than the original in so many ways, mainly the level design which IS the most important part of 2D Megaman in my eyes and is the thing that half of the X games got so wrong, including the original X8.
X gameplay it's at its best when dashing through everything and not when waiting for arbitrary slow mechanics that add nothing to the level to allow you to continue (which is the thing that the bad X games do a lot of) and this is what the original X8 does in half of the levels. Since none of that is in the demake and the annoying levels got some big overhauls it makes for a much better experience right away.
But instead of the unmodified game i'll say loud that the mod that adds Zero and Axl is the true way to play it, finding it can be a bit finicky though.

I want to play Battle Network 6 and Star Force 3 because I know these 2 will end on my favorite games ever lineup, there's no way they don't. (I still need to get through the slog of BN4 and SF2 first) ::peacemario

Special mention to Gravity Circuit, it's excellent and the best X/Zero inspired game to be released in some time. I recommend getting it right now that is on sale.
I would also say Gunvolt but I've yet to play all of them minus the first one.
