You know Costumes for existing characters would be neat, like Warioware Wario, Chef Mario from Odissey, Yarn Yoshi, Superstar Saga Luigi. Instead of making them their own freaking character

Super Nintendo Kart?

It would be fun to see a cell shaded early 90s style to a Mario Kart. I don't know how the track environments would look with cell shaded painted backgrounds though.

Maybe it'll sound controversial but this is the best MK game for many reasons.
 
Personally I want all Mario "___" games to become Smash Bros like in roster (no third parties though).
They kind of did this in Mario Kart 8 and I loved it. I think it should be really leaned into. Imagining all the awesome courses and music.

Same for Mario Sports stuff, I don't give a fuck about Shy Guy playing Tennis let me be Link doing a spin slash with a tennis racket as a power shot, or playing Team Star Fox on the Soccer Field that's on a floating asteroid with a bubble dome floating in the Lylat System.

I wouldn't mind keeping the Mario characters, even the most obscure ones like Spike from Wrecking Crew but yeah, opening the roster to more franchises is nice.

Yes, I thought it was Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at first but I noticed that Mario was in a new kart as well as the race track not being in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, (see the second screenshot below) as Mario Kart 9 was shown at 1:41 in this reveal trailer:

Does Nintendo have a document that shows the relative height (size) of every character shown in relation to standard objects.

Seeing Mario stand next to Humans in New Donk City was strange.

How might this affect seeing characters sized into chibi characters to fit the karts?
 
I want Spike and other underused pre-Super Mario Bros characters myself.

Ridley, because it's not a debate on a nintendo ip without mentioning making ridley playable.
On a more serious note, i'd be surprised if some pokemon don't make it in at this point, depends on if they are going the smash route, heck even sonic might make it if that happens.

Not sure why i'm answering though, never gonna play it lol.
 
Hope Dry-Bones makes it back in, loads of good suggestions in the thread.

Something like Gooper Blooper would be cool from an animation perspective, and what about Lakitu? He's spent so much time watching... waiting... not sure how that would work though!

Smash Bros. games are an all star roster.

Mario Kart games have traditionally only included Mario specific characters.
