What makes MK a "fake" racing game?

It's just not as skill based as F-Zero. Insanely broken items galore. It's fun for what it is in the same way Burnout isn't Gran Turismo.

Yeah, but I have higher expectations of one.
If every item were dodgeable with skill and technique, I'd set MK on a higher perch.

Mario Kart has always been, since the first game, also a party game (like Smash Bros).

I mean you can remove items from MK but then it would feel a bit "dry".
