FF7's the victim of many translation errors, but this isn't one of them. It's actually 'addiction' in Crisis Core that's the mistranslation. 中毒 is the word, and it can mean both addiction and poisoning. Overdose would also make sense. Even without going to confirmation from outside sources, we can know it's not addiction because... addiction is never what's portrayed in the game. Cloud is never fiending for mako or showing a desire to get mako into his body. At his worst, he's almost insensate.
The matter gets more muddled when Dirge of Cerberus introduces the DG soldiers or whatever who actually are distinctly addicted to mako, lol. So mako seems to definitely be a thing you can get addicted to, but Cloud only ever regards it passively.
Have read more about FF7 than any human should but have never heard this claim about his name before.
neways I PLAYED witcher 3 recently. I played with a mod that made a noble effort to make the gameplay better. And it worked for a little bit...
I think... the open world really did the game's story a disservice. There are some nice setpieces and some interesting bits of scenario writing, but it is just bogged down in so, so much pointless crap. So much that they couldn't even conclude all the threads that were set up in the previous games.
