What's a game everyone loves but you don't like it?

I did not like Undertale.

I thought the shump part was sort of cool but did not like characters, vibe or the story. I felt it lacked subtlety and was sort of preachy too.

Sort of screams "lOoK hOw QuIrKy I aM" to me also.

Also weird how the only two meaningful ways to play the game are to kill every single enemy or not kill any at all.

Undertale inspired my favourite video-game-game-show "Aesthetic or Lazy Visual Design?" Indie games can't afford to look as good as they probably wish, but some you have to wonder. Is it 16-bit because it's just easier and cheaper? Or did they really envision that when they imagined they dream game.

Undertale is very much a textbook LVD. It is NOT a vibe, it's fucking boring. I'd say it looks like dogshit but it hardly looks at all! Gameplay and graphics are just lazy. I don't care if it was only made by one guy, if it's bad, it's bad. It's not like the little box you dodge things in is small because it would block the view of anything. The screen is always at least 85% BLACK! Use that real estate!

Really it's Lets Play fodder before anything. If you've seen someone else play it. You've experienced it.

Should of just made music for other games because that's the only thing Mr. Undertale is good at.

i HATED eternal darkness, i dont think tears of the kingdom was any good, and i cannot sit through hollow knight to save my life

Baldur's Gate 3. I was interested in the story, character interaction, and the ways you can interact with the world but I just SUCKED at combat. Even at the lowest difficulty I struggled and just wanted to get to the next dialogue choice.

I might get banned but the ps1 FF7.
I love 8 and above tho...

A game almost everyone seems to love but I just can’t get into is Fortnite. I’ve tried it a few times, but the building mechanics feel more frustrating than fun to me. While I can appreciate the vibrant graphics and fast-paced action, the overall gameplay doesn’t click with me. The constant updates and shifting metas also make it hard to keep up if you’re a casual player. I totally get why it’s popular—it’s just not my style. I prefer games with slower, more strategic pacing.

Absolutely despise Fortnite lol
Love the graphics as well and it is almost gatcha but not quite. I guess it is the new generation’s Counter Strike.
I barely got into Counter, but can see the appeal. Free to play is a genius model.

I admit I never understood the appeal of fortnite. It's most likely a me thing, and I admit I never tried it, but it looks so unappealing in general to my eyes

I gotcha, there's zero build mode now tho. If you're interested on trying. I don't like fortnite, but I play from time to time with my nephew.

It's the "Game as a service" Game. The end all be all, it has "everything" young gamers want. I see it as a competent 3rd person shooter, I don't like it. But it is what it is.

I should sleep more hours…
earthbound is probably the most popular one
neat little game with a fun art direction but generally i found it a bit dull
OH NO! YOU DIDN'T! ::angrygenjin

i don't think its a bad game, the opening in particular with that little musical stinger and the war against giygas bit made me think i would be having a proper pants doodooing time - its genuinely unnerving to me even today
then i played the game for a few hours and while i thought the visual direction was striking the gameplay didn't engage me at all
as i write this i am doing the realisation i have not played it in over fifteen years, maybe i should revisit it as a person of the older life status

oh yes counter strike that is the perfect multiplayer first person shooter series to me
even someone like me who is horribly terrible at shooters where the action is everywhere, counter strike is perfect for me as it is a much slower paced strategic shooter on smaller maps

Lufia 2. Everyone is always singing its praises but I just hate puzzles so much it hurts :P

I don't understand how people can say FFIX is the best FF lol. Choosing that and dogging on 7, 8, and 10 is the equivalent to ordering chicken tenders at a Mexican restaurant lmao.

I still love FFIX. Great dialogue and visuals. But jeez it plays it so safe and it's just very by the books. I guess it's a preference where I'd rather somebody go for something weird and miss a few beats as opposed to sticking the landing on a thing that's already been done. It IS a cozy game no doubt.

Dragon Quest V is said to be the best one time and time again. However, I just can't get into it like the rest of the series. The story is good, don't get me wrong. But the gameplay feels suffocating. It doesn't have the open exploration of other games in the series until much later in the game and the party is restricted to only three active members. Combine this with the game only having a small amount of playable characters with the bulk of party members being uncontrollable monsters, it feels a lot less fun to play compared to something like Dragon Quest VI, VIII, or XI. Granted, I've still played through the majority of it, because I'm stupid like that.
I just beat DQV this year and I had a way better time with IV and V. The scale of the story was really cool but oh my God I got so sick of the encounter rate and a few other things. Maybe the encounter rate isn't any different than the previous ones but something felt more annoying here. I should say I was playing the SNES version. Maybe it's better on DS.

YESSS the tension CS builds is great being sneaky and outsmarting the opponent is the way to go , play it like rambo and you dead.

i think FF9 brings back many of the pre FF7 tropes and stuff from the 2d games the crystal , even the battle theme starts with a bass that is found in the 2d games if anything FF9 is like a 2d final fantasy game turned 3d +it has more item customization than the simplified version of items in 7 and the whole job system being integrated into the story and characters giving each character a unique command like FF4/FF6 which this gameplay proved to work pretty well.

It does also help the game that Final Fantasy creator said his favorite game was 9 at least that's what it's Wikipedia said , in a way FF9 is a love letter to 2d final fantasy

I can appreciate that. I still do love the game. But other than having sick graphics, I could just play FFVI instead lol. I will also say FFIX's English localization is beautiful. But everything just feels so... safe and by the books. I was getting used to FF being a refreshing break from the straight high fantasy stuff. It's just kind of a regurgitation of tropes they already hit five times in a row before this lol.

Thats the thing its the only PS1 FF game that doesn't have futuristic elements like cars and guns opting instead for a more medieval fantasy with steam technology being just discovered.

Its my least favorite of the PS1 trilogy but you gotta give it credit where it is due after 2 big installments of having modern equipment being the norm

Yeah it's a very polished game and I'm with you. I think all the PS1 FFs are just so insanely cool. So I guess I'm not being very spicy or controversial with my take because I still think it's great lmao.

i do also hold the opinion that ffix is the weakest of the main final fantasy games on the original playstation, but given the quality of those games, that is really not a damning thing
ffix is still fundamentally good and above average to me

I would say FF6 still topple both 8 and 9 story wise all FF6 needs is a remake and bam best FF game ever
