weirdly tho, i'd rather take that chance compared to what we have been served as of recent.
A hollow victory. You would've just gotten the same thing again and again, but even more shallow and a waste of everyone's time. Fatigue was setting in by
Ghost of Sparta and
Ascension. Let's not pretend that wasn't the case. Even Santa Monica and Sony both knew.
I be real with you: I originally was not in favor of
GoW4, but not for the same reasons your Jaffe had in mind. I was just sicked and tired of Kratos in general, and wanted a new character. There was also minor fear mongering and me thinking action games wouldn't survive if the new game became a success.
I realized how stupid I was being early enough a few month before the game came out, or that I listened to such a YouTube fool online in the first place. I also didn't want to be the thing I hated, otherwise I would be no different from most of the "professional" game critics I despised. The same ones who hated on anything Japanese. So I manned the fuck up, got my head out of my ass, and gave the game chance. I liked it, and had no regrets playing. It's not a "masterpiece", but I will never downplay this game's accomplishments, nor
Ragnarok. Everything worked for me, and I am glad Kratos became less of a scumbag and wanted to do some right in the world, and pass it down to his son. As fathers must do for their son(s). Or any parent wanting better for the child or children.
I love the dynamic between Kratos and Atrues, and later Mimir. The next game only adds to that. Both of these games have problems, but none of it ruined for me, nor did act as if it was the end of the world. I've done what I needed for these games, and I probably won't be playing again, but that's okay. Because I always have other games to play over the horizon. Plus, I am more of a
Devil May Cry player. I am never going to stop playing those.
Dante, Nero, Travis Touchdown, Kratos, and Cereza/Bayonetta. All of these characters have grown and I couldn't be any happier for any of them. Especially Travis Touchdown. He is hands down the most consistent and well developed single player action game character ever made. Yes, he gets this over Dante and Kratos. Dante is defintely the most entertaining of all of these characters, but his character development wasn't really fully consistent until
DMC3.
