The price makes "GTA VI" one of the most expensive base versions of a top-tier game, pushing it above the $69.99 ceiling that blockbusters such as Sony's "Ghost of Yōtei" and Nintendo's "Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom" have held for years.
The "Ultimate Edition" of the game will cost $99.99 and add exclusive vehicles, weapons and apparel woven into the story of Jason and Lucia, the protagonists of the game.

Shares of Take-Two rose nearly 3% in premarket trading.

Joost van Dreunen, games professor at NYU's Stern School of Business, said the pricing was unlikely to dent sales, calling "$80 a rounding error against the anticipation."
He said the price could set a new benchmark for blockbuster titles with few substitutes but was unlikely to apply to mid-tier publishers. "GTA VI doesn't lift all prices but widens the gap between the haves and the have-nots," he added.

Good luck with that, publishers. Everyone thinking that they're on GTA's level will be hilarious to watch play out. Remember when Microsoft thought The Outer Worlds 2 was an $80 game, they got called out over it, and the game still bombed at $70, leading to the death of the franchise? 😂

GTA the most boring game series I ever seen with the largest fans base in human history.

80 bucks have been standard for over a year now GTA 6 will not cement shit but it means AAA companies will be delusional and think they can keep charing 80 bucks for their they then they will complain when they join Ubitards in losing several billions.

And they will blame us for not spending money on their trash.

So even if I hate GTA series I must thank Rockstar for making the AAA industry for committing suicide.

Only game Im buying full price is Ace Combat 08 and its the collectors edition for that sweet book. Any other game is going to come out of the clearance rack for me

Good thing I don't care in the slightest about triple A gaming, I have a virtually infinite backlog of classic actual good games so whatever, the current industry is cooked anyway

I came here with the intention of expressing my reluctance to pay 80 bucks for any video game, as well as my general disinterest in the GTA franchise (it's not a bad franchise, more of a guilty pleasure), but I guess everyone beat me to it. ::sailor-embarrassed

Now that precedent has been established, I wonder how the next Call of Duty, whatever big name sports titles there are, or Pokémon will be priced.

If we don't boycott paying a weekly salary for a download code, then we really are sheep happily throwing themselves to the wolves.

Yes, it will set a standard, a standard of me buying indies and playing old games ::coolmines

I feel like I remember a group of these snivelling execs and such coming out a while ago pretty much begging Rockstar to release for $80 so they could have some form of "permission" to do the same.

They aren't even making games worth $40 these days, let alone $80. Something something fools and money soon parted.
