I've been collecting retro consoles for about.... 10 years now?
I own the following:
SEGA: SEGA Genesis, SEGA Saturn (Japanese White Model), Model 1 SEGA Dreamcast.
Nintendo: Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Nintendo Wii.
Sony: PlayStation 1 Slim, PlayStation 2 Slim.
NEC: NEC TurboDuo (Japanese Model), NEC PC-FX.
NeoGeo: NeoGeo CD.
Panasonic: Panasonic 3DO.

I'd personally love to eventually get my hands on a SEGA Master System and SEGA CD to complete my SEGA console collection, and my biggest goal is to one day own the Fujitsu FM Towns Marty II.

What about y'all?

Her.

Owned a NES, SNES, still have my Genesis, used to have N64 but had to give it to my sister, I have Saturn, Dreamcast, OG XBOX, used to have Gamecube and PS2 when they were working, I'd like to get the add ons for the Genesis but i'm worried how long they would still work in this day and age. Maybe a Master System but I just want the Master Converter instead. Maybe i'll get my own N64...

Not all are retro, but I have:

Famicom, Super Famicom, N64, Gamecube, Wii, Switch, Switch Lite, Switch 2, Sega Mega Drive Model 1 (and Master System Adapter), 32X (attached to a Mega Drive Model 2), Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, PSX, PS2, PS4 (it's just a Blu ray player for nearly a decade now), Game Gear, Game Boy, Game Boy Light, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, DS Lite, 3DS, 2DS, Virtual Boy, Vita, Vita TV, Wonderswan, Neo Geo Pocket Color, Pokemon Mini, PC Engine, various Game & Watch units, Astro City Mini, Egret Mini, and an Analogue Pocket. I also have a Commodore 64 Ultimate on the way but those don't start shipping out until November.

And a modern PC with a 4070ti Super.

If virtual pet toys count, I have a huge collection of Digimon, and also a few Tamagotchi including Paradise. A few other things as well like Pocket Pikachu and TekuTeku Angel.

For emulation, I have a MiSTer FPGA. I put mine into a keyboard case to take advantage of the computer cores. I especially love the X68000 core. But I bought it primarily for arcade games because I hate MAME more than anything in this world.

And I guess the Analogue Pocket kinda counts for emulation too since I use the cores a lot, but I often play real carts on it as well.

In the past I owned an MSX but sold it. Actually I've owned and sold an MSX unit twice. There's some decent games but you're better off emulating.

When I was younger I had the original Xbox. There's no point in owning one of those to day, or any generation of Xbox. Not console warring, and I can get into specifics but I think everyone here already understands.

I also had a PSP before. I was going to bring it back to Japan with me after I visited my parents a while back but it seems to have had water damage so I left it. I can play PSP games on my Vita or just emulate them.

Oh, I also used to have the SegaSonic arcade game but I sold it a while back.

Consoles I want:

At this point there isn't really anything left to get. There are some more Game & Watch units that I would like, but I already have a lot of the fun ones and most of these games can be played on the Analogue Pocket.

I guess what I really want is a virtual pinball table, but I could just make a pinball controller and play on my PC.

It would be really cool to have a candy cab and throw my MiSTer in there, but I don't really have space for anything like that.

I would also like to own the Nintendo consoles that predate the Famicom, but that's just hoarding since I wouldn't really play them. Maybe if I had a museum or something but not for a home collection.

There's some old PC's I would like to own, but it can get expensive fast and depending on the platform hardware maintenance can be a bitch. But in a perfect world I would love to have a PC-98, X68K, and I'd probably hang on to an MSX in that scenario too. But I think what I actually want is an FPGA device that could run all of them instead. MSX and X68K are already covered by the MiSTer, but something is needed for PC98 series.

And not really gaming related but I really want either an NEC PC-8201 a Tandy TRS-80 Model 100. They look like fun, and they would be really cool to put next to my Pocket Computer collection.

And idk if this counts but I've been debating getting a Raspberry Pi 500 and using it as a dedicated Pico-8 device but I probably won't.

I got myself a MiSTer FPGA so I'm covered for a number of old consoles, a PS2, and OG Xbox. The rest of the platforms I got are modern.

I share my collection with my brother and we own... quite a few owing to the fact that we never sold the ones we got back in the day... So our combined collection has...

1 x PAL SNES
1 x PAL Mega Drive ver 1
2 x OG GB
1 x GB colour
1 x neo Geo pocket colour
1 x PS1 (chipped)
3 x Sega Saturn (1 Asia white model, 1 jp Grey model with ODE and 1 PAL black version)
1 x N64
3 x PS2 (1x OG, 1x modded golden "hyakku Shiki limited edition" and 1 x slim)
2 x Dreamcasts (1 modded JP console and 1 with an ODE)
1 x transparent green OG Xbox
1 x black Gamecube
2 x OG GBA
1 x GBA SP
2 x PSP (1 PSP 1000 and 1 PSP 3000)
3 x DS lite (2 regular and 1 gundam "Char Asnable limited edition")
2 x 3DS
1 x New 3DS
2 x PS Vita
2 x PSTV
2 x PS3 (working at least. we have the fat model that had backward compatibility with PS2 built in but both YLOD)
2 x Xbox 360 (not including the numerous ones that RROD)
2 x Wii
1 x wii U

Most of the machines don't get much use since I have handheld emulation devices and a Mister that does most of the big consoles I play still but I'm a hoarder at heart so these machines will stay with me. Tho some of the more recent consoles we have multiples of may get sold off by my brother as he stops using them.

As for consoles I want, they're mostly limited editions or oddities of existing devices. I'd love to have a Kasumi blue OG Xbox and a PSP Go for example.
Also, a PC Engine GT/TurboExpress. A behemoth of a "handheld" device released back in the day that played the same HuCards as the bigger brother home console

I have too many. Certainly never want to buy any more. But when it comes to selling them, I have such a hard time. For example, I planned to list my OG GameBoy on eBay just this past weekend, but just couldn't bring myself to do it >..<

Consoles I own (all functional and currently hooked up to a TV) :

Atari 2600 (Woodgrain "Light Sixer")
Nintendo Entertainment System
Sega Genesis (Model 2)
Sega CD (Model 2)
Super Nintendo Entertainment System
Sega Saturn (used-to-be Mist Gray, now off-white yellowish)
PlayStation
Nintendo 64 (Standard Gray)
Dreamcast
PlayStation 2
Gamecube (Black)

Handhelds (fully functional and refurbished to the best of my ability) :

Nintendo GameBoy (Original Gray)
Nintendo GameBoy Pocket (Black)
Nintendo DS Lite (Black, w/ GBA slot)
PSP-3000 (Pearl White, Japanese Import)

Classic computers (both fully functional, with matching keyboard and mouse) :

Apple iMac G3 (Tray-Loading, Tangerine Orange)
Apple iMac G3 (Slot-Loading, Blueberry Blue)

Both iMacs have Mac OS 9 and OS X installed, as well as Virtual PC running Windows 98 with proper DOS drivers. If it involves classic PC gaming with built-in speakers and a CRT monitor, I'm there 😎

I know I won't hang onto this stuff forever. And I do look forward to the day I can finally start getting out from under it all. But... not today!

Same here. I dig older computers as long as they work. The thing I love about iMacs are the different colors they come in and the fact that they are the latest version of older Macs that play the most games and programs. Same deal with Windows 98 or even XP being able to play almost anything up to that point.

I’ve switched to emulation on Steam Deck so I haven’t really been collecting any retro consoles, but I still have some. I’ve got the N64, GBA SP, and PS2. The 3DS and PS Vita are discontinued now so I guess they sort of count too. I also have a SNES classic but I don’t think that really counts.

I've been collecting for nearly 15 years, so needless to say I've amassed a lot of shit! I'll just show off the consoles I use on the regular. (My phone's camera is terrible so excuse the quality)

Every console is either equipped with an Everdrive or an ODE, because screw having to deal with dirty carts and faulty lasers. Just have to plug in a controller, press the power and play.

Guess I'll show my "Modern" set-up too, since some people consider these consoles retro.

Likewise these are all modded to play games via hard drive (Except for the Switch, just pretend that's not there 😅)

There's not really anything else I'd like to add, I'm pretty content. Course if I came across a good deal I'd pick it up but there's nothing that I'm hunting for.

• The retro consoles I had and I have:

- Atari 2600 that turned out to be fake and has the ability to switch between lots of games after every restart. I still have it.

- I had a fake NES me uncle bought me but I used it and its games to reduce the cost to buy a Sega Genesis.

- I still have my Sega Genesis that I bought decades ago and it still works ok which is the only retro console I bought back then that survived.

- I threw my original Japanese PS1 to rubbish bin after it stopped working (I would bother fixing it if I didn't have any way to buy a better one) and bought a European PS1 which I also threw to rubbish bin because yet again it stopped reading disc after I fixed its optical drive before (I didn't bother fixing it again for I already bought a PS2).

- My original Japanese fat PS2 is broken because while I'm at work my brother decided to give it to his friend without asking my permission alongside with over 200 games. Naturally I went to his house and he said his big bro "accidentally" stepped on it so it was broken, the whole machine being useless they threw everything about it with the permission of my brother. That day I beat my brother with an acoustic guitar (good thing no harm done to me and my acoustic guitar) and so after my brother survived the attack which he couldn't pay his debt with his life I forced him to work to pay back everything he stole from me then with that money I bought an European silver PS2 and lots of games. Fucking dumbass in the history of my bloodline lol. Well after its optical drive stopped reading discs I modded it and then switched to FCMB and stuff. Currently it's connected to a USB drive, SSD and one of my PC via LAN cable to play games and stuff.

- I had a GBA but once my save files were gone because its fucking battery run out I threw out all of that rubbish. Design fail AF.

- (If a Nintendo Wii is retro) My PSP exploded while I was in the army and it was in a box at my mother's house "for safe keeping" yet they changed its location to where they shouldn't have but good thing nothing important was harmed lol.

• The retro consoles I wish I had:

- MSX Turbo R (It's not a race car, it's a race video game console!!!! (¿¿¿what???))

s-l300.jpg

- PC Engine Duo-RX (what a cringe letter salad like it's cool stuff but it looks like shit though lol)

s-l1200.jpg

- Sharp X68000 (Not really a video game console but a gaming PC alright, despite its cringe letter salad it really looks cool)

ajo7hbjz7upa1.jpg

- PC Engine LT (If I had played this in public they would jail me as "foreign spy" lolol)

- Sega Saturn

- Sega Dreamcast

- Xbox

If we only count Strictly Retro Consoles hm it also depends what counts already as retro and what not but I try here is my list of Consoles I own:
Ps2 the Basic version I think PAL
Ps3 Basic also PAL
Xbox360 S PAL
NDS
Wii PAL
PSP
Original Gameboy
Not Retro but I also have a PS4

Consoles that would be nice owning:
American Snes (Because many games never released for the European Snes) and no Super Famicom either as I barely know any Japanese.
Nintendo 3ds would be nice to own
PSP Vita probably
PC Engine
Nintendo Switch 1 maybe

Indeed. Old computers (and consoles!) are really a labor of love. Part of buying one is knowing full well you'll likely have to take it apart and tinker with it. Plug and play, they largely are not 😅

Both of my iMacs got a full teardown when I first received them. They were thoroughly cleaned inside and out, got new (larger and quieter) hard drives, had their PRAM batteries replaced, processors overclocked, and RAM maxed-out. I find that the slot-loading models have more issues (poor quality disc drives, speakers that are prone to having their foam surrounds rot out) and tend to steer people towards the tray-loading models (paper speaker cones, better disc drives) when possible.

They certainly aren't as affordable as they once were - but, then again, what is?? But for a computer with a CRT monitor that can, as you said, play a large timeline of Macintosh games and apps, they're still a fantastic value. As long as the monitor hasn't blown out...
