What is your views related to Pirating?

The only indie games I've pirated so far were World of Goo, Deadlight and Rogue Legacy.

I ended up buying the first two and never playing the third ever again.
I think if you eventually intend on buying the game that's alright.

As long as it's not like, a current game, I see no problem with it (hell, I'd be lying if I said I didn't torrent Five Nights at Freddy's as a broke teen). In fact, you'd be doing yourself a real disservice not to experience the rich lineage of gaming, based solely on commercial availability.
That said, I really roll my eyes at all the 'piracy is morally justified' people. Like, no you're not Robin Hood for using Yuzu.

sharing is caring

meanwhile pretty bold of yall to assume you can steal anything
The gta 6 leak, some 15 year old kid got some script and got into Rockstars internal server and leaked almost everything GTA6 related

I'll be honest about Nintendo:

Yes, it's trash to stop free fangames from being produced (even if they're illegally using copyrighted assets or IP characters so this is why I'd give my money to indie devs selling a game inspired while being an entirely original game instead) and they have an old way of seeing their own legacy (but that's more of a japanese cultural thing than just Nintendo) but I'll be the devil's advocate by telling that the staff behind Yuzu (and Citra) have been real dumbasses when they showcased a working copy of Tears of the Kingdom before the game got legally released and (as far as I know) putting a build made to run the latest games behind a paywall. It's a massive nono to get money while promoting piracy (which is why I don't ever give money to emulators, especially you Project 64).

Emulation itself is legal as long as you provide yourself the bios file and roms from your own console and owned cartridges by dumping them (yes, getting them on the Internet even if you own these games is forbidden since the provider is distributing these files without asking the proof you own them).

Of course it's quite common to talk about preservation but when it's about games that haven't released yet then you're basically lying and telling you can run games you can literally not be able to officially own yet is basically telling you're doing piracy. At least just be honest and tell people you don't care about paying the games instead of using the "preservation" or "I just wanna play in better conditions" arguments.

Same with Ryujinx and Echoes of Wisdom. When it's Zelda or any big franchises it's basically like tickling a sleeping bear. Thankfully Nintendo hasn't gone to shut down Dolphin or any other older emulators simply because they are no longer supported and don't try getting paid for a specific build.

I think that the PC ports of N64 games are still up because they all require you to provide the actual rom file instead of giving the full game. AM2R didn't require the original Metroid II Samus Returns (and the actual remake was apparently in preparation) which is why they shut it down. (Also never tell about the fangame until it's completed).

PS: Even Sega shutted down SoR Remake despite them being cool with Sonic romhacks and fangames so "Sega does what Nintedid".

PPS: Are people saying "it's always morally correct to pirate Nintendo games"? Why would it be just them and not other companies?

Everything that mankind creates or elaborates should be of public domain.
this. we should make every masterpiece every invention all served up as a free buffet. that would do wonders to human innovation nothing drives progress like the thrill of unpaid labor

I've been waiting this topic. I love buying games and merch. HOWEVER...I will always believe in piracy. Pirates are the fans that helped make anime go world wide(fan subbing, etc). The fans make the franchises big, the fans are the ones that have love for the retro...even if they don't have deep pockets.

It's sad that companies forget this. I believe that people that want to buy something will indeed buy something. It is up to the companies to figure out a way to get that money out of a person's pocket. Thanks to pirates, I get to enjoy manga and games that I wouldn't have otherwise.

i still feel like the video game industry has ripped me off
not the other way around

100% for. I own a ton of physical games, however I always mod my consoles once they reach end of life, grab a big hard drive/SD card, throw all of the games on it, then keep my physical games on the shelf/in storage.

do you serve the milkman?
what is the milkman's location?
what is the mission of the milkman?
what is the milkman like? is he a nice person?
who is the milkman?
we know whos paying you.

Myself. i agree with the "Not new games"
and let's be honest. no new game in the last 10 years has been worth Yohoing anyhow.

If the money is going to the People who made it. yes absolutely buy it.
If the money is going to Joe Schmoe, who hiked the price up due to "Nostalgia" Fuck'em and Pirate.

If a game has been out of circulation for Years, like say "Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines" The yes absolutely. <before Steam started selling it>

Old arcade games? Yes, when was the last time you Saw <and yes i know a few people see them still> but for the most part, a Arcade cabinet. and i don't mean a like Street Fighter 6 Arcade <i don't know if that's a thing, but it's the point>

I mean like 80's/90s arcade.

Point being, yes Piracy has its place. it has saved a few things from being lost forever.
No don't go YOHO GTA6 on day 1. hell don't even YOHO if its still being sold and is 5 years old.

but from the 90's back? yeah it really isn't hurting anyone. They made their money, so it won't impact them. I Know the I.P. Lawyers would disagree, but Screw them To.

to juvie with that chad!

Considering how anti-establishment the GTA games are, it seems on brand if to leak them, if you ask me.

is that cloud
My signature or profile picture? Yes, my signature is quoting him but my profile pic is a 3D-model i made myself a while back, i tried to replicate the style of Final Fantasy VII and i'd say i did a good job with it.

My official stance has always been: It is wrong to hold someone at gun point and rob them while out at sea.

But more on the actual topic. Companies don't respect your ownership rights, your right to play when you want on your terms, and while you are in their ecosystem charge far too much for far too little in offering return. And they regularly push to have you throw all of your collected merchandise out because it's 'outdated' and sell you a newer version.

This gets back to my rants on Copyright, how it is faaaaar too long, and companies fire those that made their company happen and then sit on and whore out their pile of games believing they will own it forever and can get infinite profits. When in reality copyright should be reduced to something reasonable, say 10-20 years.

As such i don't want to put another penny into the system that believes it can delete or disable our games/books/movies, who want us to own nothing and be happy, who shove slop on us believing the name of the brand is so strong that it alone will convince billions in sales. I also don't like how digital stores think they deserve 30% or more for merely mediating the sale and has no physical inventory to worry about. (I also don't like how publishers would get the bulk of the money while the devs should instead).

It's not black and white. I see no issue when it comes to something old, but when it's something recent I have a problem with it.

tldr - pirating switch games isn't cool, but enjoy your SNES roms

If I can afford it or don't mind waiting until I can, I'll buy it. If it doesn't have an officially available port or I'm just strapped for cash for whatever reason, I'll gladly pirate it and try to buy the thing whenever I can, especially if I end up really liking it. The vast majority of the time I pirate is for older games that don't have official ports on modern hardware. I'd gladly shell out $10-15 for a lot of these games but if they don't give me the chance to I'd rather just load them up onto an everdrive, ODE or modded PSP/Vita than shell out whatever official prices for a physical copy are. I miss when retro collecting wasn't so expensive for even common stuff...

By the time any corporate financed media makes it to consumer hands everyone involved has already been paid. In that sense it would only be piracy in legal terms and have neither moral nor realistic financial implications for the creators. A project’s financial success does not guarantee a green light for further corporate investment when an audience has already been captured by branding.

I think it's fine.

For insatnce; if streaming companies keep increasing prices without providing better or more service, I'm gonna cancel and pirate.

Also, game companies not having ports or re-releases of games forces me to pirate. I'm not paying 100$ or more for a physical copy from a third party seller that the initial company won't make anything off of, anyway. I see 0 logic in companies that refuse to provide the game, but also don't want people sharing it.

this! no poor artist/dev goes around DMCA striking people, those who do it are either already rich or aiming to get rich by getting their IP to go viral, actual poor artists/devs work for big bro and give up all their rights for a paycheck.
