What is your views related to Pirating?

I consider videogame pirating to be 'wrong' only if it's a struggling indie dev.

For anime I would say to always pirate (do not give money to CR) and buy physical releases from japan if you actually want to support studios.

means to an end. If someone doesn't have the means or ability to experience something they want to try but are able to thru so be it. If i do its usually on something im unsure im going to enjoy , if enjoyed ill purchase if available.

I wouldn't be here if I didn't support piracy.
It's a necessary part of digital media and internet culture

For older games it's fine, for newer games it's not.

Most of the old excuses are silly, "big companies don't feel it", "I pirate because the game has microtransactions", or "it's a service problem". People just want things for free.

It's impossible to stop it, it's just a part of the internet. But people underestimate its impact, even with big games like Alan Wake 2 or the recent Spider-Man 2 port. And many indie games are getting hurt by it in significant ways, where something like 10K sales is a big deal.

At least if someone says "because I dislike this company" would be more honest.

Now the service problem is understandable, if a game is no longer available legally in stores (like Drivers San Francisco or Prey 2006) I cannot blame them.

I dislike that resellers are profiteers that overprice their second hand product (which gives 0 dimes to the original company anyway).

I heard many things but what makes Crunchiroll that infamous? Same with Wakanim?

I pirate things I can't afford meaning everything from my music to my movies

It is what it is
Can't remember the last time i payed for music, i have thousands of tracks from years haha

I support piracy because i'm poor as all fuck. I don't have the money to get the thousands of pieces of media i have downloaded on my pc since i've already spent all my money to get a decent computer.

There are few points that I want to put into discussion. The first one is licensing hell. Games and media rights stuck in bureaucracy and personal disputes.
Secondly companies that don't give a damn about their old properties and even if they do they give you some terrible ports most of the time.

I dislike how MvC 2 was stuck in limbo for decades.

I see that some bad movies are made only to keep the IP.

Yeah, that extrapolates to all their "Marvel" fighting games from the mid Nineties forward(I think their first was Marvel children of the atom).

I'm all for supporting smaller studios. Indie teams have a lot riding on what they put out, and if you rock with their vibe you need to support them. If you pirate small indie, definitely make a note to yourself to buy it later if you enjoy it.

This being said, it's an unfortunate reality that publishers for the big gaming companies don't really care a lot of the time about how a game does, and will lay off / restructure entire teams after a game comes out because it didn't hit their projections or whatever other reasons. Look at what happened to the Lamplighters League team, or how Microsoft did Tango Gameworks after Hi-Fi Rush proved to be a success.

Point being I wouldn't blame anyone for wanting to pirate anything published on modern gaming platforms nowadays, all of the companies are pretty scummy in different ways. And honestly, given the current gaming landscape, I hope mods and jailbreaks continue to take off because I think it should happen more.

I echo the sentiment that it's kinda shitty to not buy indie games if you enjoyed your "free trial", but I couldn't care less if it's a big company that doesn't get your money. I will still buy from bigger development studios who have proven themselves though. But I've successfully boycotted buying games from several developers for awhile now and that list is only going to grow if companies like Nintendo keep doing unfathomably scummy things. I'll take the five finger discount in that case.

Retro games are no holds barred. Even though I own many physical games and consoles, emulation has become my main way to play them. Playing on original hardware isn't important to me and sometimes emulation can simply be better with fanmade hacks ironing out some of the rough edges of some games.

I do have a huge digital music collection, but I've taken to using Spotify as my main source of music as of late. I do still buy music if I can't find it on Spotify or if it's from a band I love and want to support.

Movies? Fuck film studios. Basing a film's success off money from theatrical releases is just stupid. Companies like Disney will not be getting a penny from me either. Finally, streaming services can eat shit. Rotating stuff in and out, making things only available in certain countries, being filled with tons of slop, $10,000 a month if you want to get every service, advertisements, etc. I pretty much only sail the high seas for movies. I feel the same about TV shows of any type, anime or live action or whatever.

Comics and manga and books? I guess I'd go physical in those cases, as long as it's not prohibitively expensive or takes up huge amounts of space. Reading books on a computer screen is just miserable, my eyes can't handle it.

So overall? I'm all for it. I support worthy companies or developers and everyone else can go fuck themselves. I live off disability and have way more important things to pay for.

It sort of depends on a lot of different things. That said... if something is completely inaccessible in any official way, I feel like that's just totally fair game.

Also, if you have a moral issue with a product I could easily see it. Like say... pirating Aquaman 2 instead of contributing your hard earned money to that human sewer.

If buying isn't owning, then piracy isn't stealing

No, but seriously, I don't understand why video games company being so fucking greedy
If company want to be disrespectful, then we can do this piracy
