The first video game you remember playing?

Frogger on the Apple IIGS.

I ”played” Rad Racer and Megaman 1 with my aunt when I was like 3.
The quotes are because I learned much later that, just like many others, I had been bamboozled and was using a disconnected controller, while SHE was the one doing the playing!!

Mine was Super Mario Bros. for NES, when I was barely old enough to sit up on my own.
My parents put a Nintendo controller in my hands, and then that became my life for over 30 years; the rest is history.

This is so hard to answer because it was a million years ago. I'd die to know what was the first game I played!...we'll never know the answer to that ?
I had a "famiclone" pretty early, so it was most likely Super Mario Bros. (this one..)

I also have vivid memories of playing these titles:
  • Adventure Island 1 and 2
  • Elevator Action
  • Road Fighter
  • City Connection
  • Super Mario Bros. 3
  • Monster in My Pocket
  • Dick Tracy
  • Mappy
  • Formula 1 Sensation

My niece on the other hand I can tell you exactly what was the first game she played.
She was born in 2020, at age 3 without knowing what a console was or how to work a stick she picked up my always dusty Wii U and got into Super Mario 3D world...

At first she tried to use it as a tablet (the only thing she knew) after explaining to her she was supposed to use physical controls she started trying to move the character, it took her weeks of every day practice but she can now play the game.
She also played Super Mario kart 8 and sometimes, she isn't even the last one...this is incredible to me. She has no concept of winning or losing, she would randomly stop racing to admire the cows crossing the streets or to say hi to the NPC mushrooms spectating on the side of the road.

She's now WAY into Yoshi Woolly World, she can actually finish levels and see secrets I don't even notice (remember she's 3 years old!) but she does get scared of enemies and hand over the console to me to take care of them, I explained to her they can't harm her but she's still not sure.

I'm convinced that by age 5 she would master any game I can throw at her (maybe I'm ruining her life idk lol)

What about you guys?
earliest i can go back is a tweety bird game on my brothers gameboy i think? I also remember here in Australia we have foxtel which i guess is the equivalent of american cable tv and there was a channel (555 i think) where you could play a bunch of games with the tv remote i remember there being a tom and jerry game and a codename kids next door game.

I remember playing a game called "Tank 1990" or "Battle City" and "Road Fighter." They were really fun!

When I was a kid living in rural Southeast Asia, I didn't have access to the popular video games that others played. However, my dad gave me my first (bootleg) NES, which had a collection of 10,000 games in 1. I thought it was the coolest thing ever! ?

What the devil..?
I couldnt figure out videogames until 6!!

My brother had a Sega Genesis so he got me into playing sonic 3 before buying the lock-on extension to it. One of the reasons I like many games is because of him.

Probably one of these two, as I recall them being one of my first memories. I probably have more attachments to the Nintendogs games, since when I got the 3DS (that still works!) I got the new Nintendogs. Man, simpler times.

The Nintendo PolyStation? That's amazing lol.

I think it was Prince of Persia for the DOS system, PC IBM. I was 6 or 7.

I had this one too when I was a kid.

My first gaming experience was Super Mario Bros. at age 2. My two older sisters showed me how to play, and I started to get hooked. And for some reason, I knew where the warp zones were. These were the games my parents got for me and my sisters for the NES.

Sonic Adventure 1 and Sonic Riders on PC when i was 5 in 2006, and i regret nothing!
On NES Super C, Batman, Mario and Contra.

It would have been something on the NES. For whatever reason, one of my aunts or uncles either gave my parents or sold to them a NES and a bunch of games when I was pretty young, like maybe 3 or 4? Maybe it was 3, I was born in '87 and remember various SNES and Genesis games coming out, so I would have been gaming for a bit by then. Based on what I remember having and not buying, it would have been one of these:

Super Mario Bros. / Duck Hunt
Super Mario Bros. 3
Legend of Zelda
Excitebike
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II
A Boy and His Blob
Popeye
Bugs Bunny's Birthday Blowout

Pretty random thinking back, and there was a NES in the basement at my grandma and grandpa's also, I'd end up playing it when I was bored and waiting for the rest of the family to be ready to leave family gatherings.

It seems weird in retrospect, since no one else in my family was into video games, and going by inflation a Nintendo wouldn't have been cheap by any means back then. Games were more expensive too, so why were there so many NES systems around? Some friends of my parents had a NES also when we'd go over to visit. Somehow the system was ubiquitous and omnipresent, kind of like the Wii was for a while in the late 2000s/early 2010s. A lot of people seemingly just had one for some reason, even if it rarely got used.

My first console was the snes, but before that I have distinct memories of playing games on my parents PC like Sims, Road Rash, & old city building games like Zeus: Master of Olympus & Pharaoh/Cleopatra. Also remember playing a bit of Baldur's Gate but I doubt I made it that far.

Could have been either Toy Story, The Lion King or Paper Boy 2 on the SNES hard to remember who was the first but I'm fairly certain the first PS1 title was a Sesame Street game.

I'm a younger member here. I have vague memories of what I now know was ExciteTruck and even memories of the launch night of Super Smash Bros. Brawl! My uncle brought that game over, played Classic Mode as Link, and my memory comes from him fighting Master Hand as Link. For years after, I would replicate the "evil hand" with my toys, because it was something I could actually do!

Actual first game I played would have to be the Wii port of Cars. Yes. My first game was Pixar's Cars... for Wii. I have memories of driving poorly and getting stuck between the Cozy Cones. My dad would have to come help me out! I think that's why I hated motion controls for so long.

As for the first game I OWNED and loved, that came a few years later. One Christmas later, I got a DS with these two games.

I think Black Lamp on Atari ST, together with double dragon and treasure island dizzy, space harrier and super hang on

I sucked at all of those games.

it was either Super Mario Bros 3 or Super Mario Galaxy, i couldn't have been any older than 3 but i remember playing both of those around the same time and being completely captured by them. i remember also being very confused by the concept of having to press select to select a menu option and pressing start to select it, instead of using the dpad and A button.

An odd little PC game called The Neverhood. I still remember it to this day because it's all claymation: miniature clay models of characters and locations all moved by hand under a camera.

It's also the earliest memory I have of a game that inflicted a month's worth of emotional damage.

When I was a kid I received my first console, a Game Boy Advance and it came with a game bundled. However, I don't remember if it was Super Mario World or Yoshi's Island...
