What i had as a kid.
Allow me to rebuttal:lol fair enough. I can see the desire to have Peach portrayed in her traditional role as the damsel in distress if you were expecting the movie to stay faithful to the original concepts of the game, but Nintendo has been slowly moving her away from that trope in an obvious attempt to cater to more female buyers, I mean fans ;)
That said, is it really that big of a deal that the character is evolving to a more prominent role? What exactly is the issue of these characters being more resourceful and demonstrating that?
As for the trailer being female character focused, I'm sure they have plenty of data that shows the well established and overall positive view of Mario as a character in general, but they may see data that shows the average audience don't know much about Peach other than she is the character Mario always saves. Its very likely younger female audiences, who have already been exposed to more stronger female characters over the last decade, may not be as interested in Peach if she was portrayed in the traditional damsel in distress. This is all speculation of course, but its clear that the trailer is focused on capturing more female audience attention.
Posing questions like "well why even have the Mario Bros if she is so powerful?" is rather silly when looking at the movie as a whole. Its a fictional world, why not? They don't have to explain anything in such granularity because its never meant to be taken that way.
When I was younger, I cared less for the live action segments and was mostly interested in the cartoon. But now, I would love a 90s themed live action sitcom of Mario and Luigi played by Lou Albano and Danny Wells inspired actors with some competent writing (and less "celebrity" cameos) and even more soundFX pulled from the games. It'll never happen but one can dream.
