First time seeing these! Kid me would have definitely been all over that haha. The artwork is pretty good compared to other merchandising around that period. Does the rest of the booklet hold up?
They were a lot of fun to read, my favorite of the bunch was Koopa Capers, centered around Luigi. Lots of bad endings, lots of lore and just overall a great time. There's more artwork throughout the books as well.

Nintendo also made Zelda ones, but I never saw them back then.

Deep Yoshi lore.

I have to mention Super Mario RPG too

Kid me didn't really get or have enough patience for RPGs, but I stuck with Seven Stars because I liked Mario so much, and it opened me up to RPGs. I may have never taken to the genre without this game.
It is one of the best RPGs and I really like the art style to the point I have mixed feelings with it turning into Paper Mario

I am from a poor family, so, my first contact with Mario Games was playing the Flash fangames, specially Super Mario Flash and Super Mario 63, my Father is a boomer and always recomended things of his childhood, because of that I watched the Dic cartoons.

The first time I played an official Mario game was with the zsnes emulator, which seemed intimidating for me when I was younger.

Mario is a good franchise, I like to think of Nintendo games as a kid playing with toys, one playthrought is Mario rescuing princess the other is his toys in a race

Super Mario was the series that made me obsessed with video games. I remember as a kid I did nothing but talk about Mario Bros. and his games. I watched gameplay videos of Mario 3 and Mario Party 9 on YouTube. I got to play one of his games when my grandfather had a SNES emulator on his PC with Mario All-Stars. I spent hours and hours playing Mario World. In my childhood, he was my refuge and companion. Even though I prefer Mega Man, I still have a soft spot for the plumber. My favorite game is Super Mario Galaxy, not only because it's a beautiful game, but because it changed my life.

I think I'm feeling very sensitive right now. Lol

Your grandfather is a cool dude for introducing you to emulation! I'm sure it was passive, like "here, enjoy this game" rather than "what you're playing is software that pretends to be older hardware so it can run software made for that hardware" but kudos if he tried 🙂

I've known about Mario even before I discovered his name was Mario. The games just showed up in our local arcades and I wasn't even sure Donkey Kong was the real thing. I remember he was the next big arcade game obsession with my brothers following Crazy Climber and Pac-Man labelled as Puckman.

There were so many clones in the arcades in my country that I didn't know which one was authentic.
There were definitely a lot of Crazy Kong machines.

We found out later about Donkey Kong, Mario and everything else when we got hold of some U.S. gaming mags.

I love Mario games, I've never played one that was a miss (of the ones that I've played). My favorite are the RPGs! I'm finishing up Bowser's Inside Story as we speak. Superstar saga was my fave overall.

The Paper Mario games are some of my favorite games of all time, especially Super. That game was the first game I played that had a somewhat deeper story to follow, and I'd say shaped my interests these days. I might play that again matter of fact.

I remember that I still haven't finished Super Mario Advance 2 nor Advance 3 which are based on Super Mario World and Super Mario Bros 3. I've done them both on the NES and their 16-bits All-Star remakes.

I know that Advance 2 is the one getting the most changes compared to the other SMAdv remakes yet I want to try them.

I'm still curious why they haven't done them in order after Advance, Super Mario Bros Deluxe on the GBC and Advance 1 were SMB 1/TLL and SMB2 USA respectively yet they went for World then Yoshi's Island then SMB3. Perhaps because of their popularity.

Also there's a PSA video involving them

I've completely forgot about this day, oops.

Smash Bros. movie confirmed. Wouldn't surprise me if Kirby zooms by in the background either.

Why? Why would they spoil us the surprise?

And call me a party pooper but I feel like he's out of place outside of cameos and easter eggs.

I prefer movies to focus on their own IP before spreading a bit too much. Wario, Daisy, DK, Yoshi and even Spike from Wrecking Crew were linked to the Super Mario franchise thanks to spin-offs and side games.

The only things that Starfox is connected is F-zero thanks to the G-Diffuser system and James McCloud being in the later series as well.

If they ever do a Donkey Kong movie, it better have Stanley in it.

pape mentioned ::yay

Okay! Went to see the Super Mario Galaxy Movie this morning. And with all the negative criticisms I keep seeing, I find it to be very good and better than the first one. Reason I am saying this is because while there were elements in the first one like the games, this one actually has more action and have a really good climax that is like the very first Super Mario Bros. which I really want to see in decades.

Pros
+ Beautiful/Imaginative world building
+ Bright wonderful characters
+Yoshi and Rosalina
+ More action and power-ups
+ Mario finally obtaining the Fire Flower
+ Wart, Birdo, R.O.B., Fox McCloud and a special princess if you stayed after the credits
+ No Seth Rogan
+ No dated pop music. Only Mario music.

Cons
-Should be a bit longer to introduce new characters like Yoshi and Rosalina and not have Nintendo spoil half of the movie with their advertising.
-The pacing is a little too fast and should be a bit slow with more delivery from the characters
-Mario and Luigi's family never appeared which I like to see more of

I give it a 4.5 out of 5. Because I am a big Mario fan who wants to see new adventures and world building in the Mario series.

I agree with several of them except that I don't understand the no Seth Rogan thing because I do miss DK in this sequel, not even as a small side character at the beginning.... Also I don't think that Bonnie Taylor will ever be dated because the 80's are still great but I may agree that this theme was overused when they could've taken some we have barely heard.

I agree about the first point yet I think that Yoshi as a character doesn't have a lot to go with.

I think I'm fine with a higher pace instead of dragging too much.

While I do miss Donkey Kong since he only showed up in 2 seconds in the second movie. I just felt Seth Rogen doesn't fit the voice for Donkey Kong with that Seth Rogen laugh.

I don't mean that 80s music is dated. After all, the 80s is still awesome. How many kids films need to have "I need a hero"? It's being overplayed too much. I would prefer Danger Zone during the training montage instead.

And yeah. Maybe I was over exaggerating about the pacing. I should watch it again when it's on digital/physical and maybe the pacing will be just normal.
