Sonic Megathread

I really like Rush but if the screen is crunched like that I think it will miss the original feel.

What made Rush interesting is how it had both screens at once unlike other platformers such as Kirby Squeak Squad or NSMB.

Eh, I don't like that Sega is shoehorning Sonic in non Sonic games because they fear that those games aren't popular enough for younger Sega fans.
I mean... Sega had Spider-man, Batman, Godzilla, and the Terminator as bosses in one of the games

The two screen mechanic is awkward on any device that's not a DS. Also, I don't want the original feel of screen crunch.

Superman 2, Sonic The Hedgehog movie 4, and The Legend of Zelda movie are all releasing the same year in 2027. O.O

One of those movies I'm pretty confident will be great. As for the other two...

We'll see. I didn't like the Mario movie and I've heard wildly different opinions on Gunn's Superman.
it's just a superman movie, and a good one at that.

maybe they dumbed it down a bit to match weaker hardware
I don't believe that colour saturation is directly linked to a hardware's power. It's literally a hue slider.

Early GBA games being overly bright was meant to compensate for the lack of a backlight but that's it.

Frontiers was meant to have 3 islands until they changed it to 5.

That doesn't explain why the colours in Frontiers are dull though.
The Wii was much weaker yet Colors looked much brighter too.

it's sega. they rush everything and half ass it as well. and nowadays, game companies listen to the people who either don't play games or complain that something is too "child-like" aka, it's bright and colorful.
bland ass colors are easier to pick and slap onto a texture for a character or environment. and since those colors are "realistic" it is appeasing the people who are screaming and yelling because they have nothing going on in their lives and want everything bland and boring.

Sega should really, really take notes on Nintendo for the games. Yes people sometimes waited many years for a new entry but they often deliver well.

The whole "colourful = child like" is such a bias that lead us with many awfully edgy games in the mid 2000's...

Also Sonic has always been a colorful franchise aimed at a fairly young audience (well, maybe slightly older than Mario but still) so it makes no sense. This is the same thing that lead us to get Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic 2006 (which ironically look more colorful than Sonic Frontiers since the former used Heroes' engine and the later still used various colours and palettes for the levels despite the realistic art style).

People complained about Green Hills and colorful levels in the Meta era but at least even Forces had some colours (well, still less than Generations).

Those used Lost World as an example of why colorful was too bland but the issues of the game was beyond its art style... That doesn't mean they should do a 180° turn with the franchise.

I hope the next game will have more environments than grass/ruins/desert/cyberspace.

There's ways to modernize the cast from SatAM/Archie and make it feel like modern Sonic without having to change things drastically. It's all about aesthetics and cool factor.
