RGT Nostalgia Society #12 - Pikmin

Oh! So you just throw them over then they push it... >_< I'm so dumb ::sadkirby

And then the "big blue wrecking crew" went on to take out the damn bird things ^_^

Alright soooo, how does the combat work? Sometimes I'll kill those big ass red bug dudes thay are sleeping when you pull up with no problem. Then sometimes it'll eat like my entire force before it hits half health.

Should I always walk around with 100 Pikmin or do smaller forces make it easier to get through the day?

Personally I only walk around with 100+ pikmin if I'm trying to fight stuff. When I was trying to reach the yellow onion on day 2, I took literally none with me lmao

RE: the combat thing tho, I believe the most important thing is the element of surprise, how high-level your Pikmin are, and how quickly you can chuck them lol

If you eiher feed them sap or let them sit in the ground longer, they grow first buds, then flowers, and I think the flower-headed Pikmin are stronger and better in a fight. Against the giants, tho, you're best off using bomb-rocks to soften them up first.

Oh dang, I was wondering what the flowers on them were. This would make sense. Thank you!

I don't think I have quite gotten the hang of it either... For those you hit from behind. Often I find myself fucking around with the c-stick to make sure everyone is fighting. I don't know if that's how to use it though >_<

That is true I think, manual says the flowers get a "damage shield" and revert instead of dying, so they can take more abuse? but as far as combat, I don't think they do more damage... The buds and flowers only affect speed according to manual... maybe they attack faster? idk

I'm not sure fellas. But I probably got what I needed from Pikmin already:

I tried something outside my norm. I participated in the community event here with RGT, and experienced a foundational Nintendo game. And I prolly learned more about my taste in games a little better.

I know it's only 16 days into the month and the play along, and I might play a bit more here and there just to see, but I'm not sure its a game I'll see to the end. 😔

I can see why some can have a hard time getting into it. I have extra motivation to beat it because I actually have nostalgia for this one and never beat it. I like it because I think the pikmin and the noises they make are cute ^_^

Last night, just got to distant spring, and was just scouting it out and ::omgdoom looks rough.

Made up a few days yesterday in forest navel, but still one part left there and the landing zone ::angrygenjin Lost lots of pikmin to this guy ::sadkirby

Have all parts from forest and starting the spring today ^_^
And it's a mastery, thanks DinoRexMax for the nomination, I didn't expect to have so much fun with it. Time to play something a bit less intense now and wait for my lost hair to grow back ::eggmanlaugh

Thanks man. That spider boss is the worst, I had more luck facing him with just 10 to 15 yellows.🤔

Huh, I did have casualties, but didn't go as bad as I thought (considering how intimidating it looks). I had a squad of 100 reds and just kept throwing them at it >_< I lost 120 that day, but I think that was more due to frogs >_< I think I only lost ~30 to the spider?

Oh! And I forgot to mention this! I got the part from this asshole that is just walking around stealing shit by luck I think. I'm still not sure how to get pikmin to attack it, but while I was going about my business noticed it had very little health left for some reason, so I just beat the fucker to death with my bare hands to finish it off ::flexing

Is there a particular reliable way you are supposed to kill this guy? I thought you needed bombs so I was saving him for later, but for some reason, like I said, it had gotten beat up somehow, and just had a sliver of health so I just smacked the shit out of him myself

You just have to throw a Pikmin at his head to cause a little damage and then wait for him to grab a pellet or dead enemy, then just put two Pikmin on that same pellet and they'll drag him to the onion. He'll hit his head when the pellet is delivered and die😂

AWRIT!

Two days left, and i managed to unlock the last level, may use the last spare day to stock in Pikmin with the pearls, after that i will 100% the game, let's see what happens

::omgdoom I didn't know it was that simple >_< This game keeps making me feel dumb ::sadkirby I'm probably the only person dumb enough to run after it smacking it to death >_<

You are not dumb, the game is just full of little details, yesterday I learned blue pikmin can rescue other colors from drowning::surprised-pikachu

Yea, that's in the manual I think, but in practice I haven't noticed that mechanic work: I remember being pissed they still drowned ::sadkirby And usually, I just have blue pikmin all together in one group when going near water anyway, so I don't see much use to it yet.

I'm still sooo behind and this month is sneaking up on me. I've got some work deadlines to take care of today, but I'm going to try and rinse my way through a few days either tonight or tomorrow as I've got a freer day then.
I was behind myself, but I wouldn't worry: it goes pretty fast once you get in the "groove". I made lots of progress last night in the spring ^_^ I just need 3 more before next area and I know how to get them (I think at least >_<) I left them behind because didn't have time in those areas.

so I've lost/left behind a few (literally didn't even realize I was doing it at some points lmao) but I have made it through day 5 with 6 parts collected, and things are clearly getting a bit easier with the finding of the radar.

So far, I've found the hardest part is trying to be non-combative. I restarted day 3 like 4 times because I kept losing my guys. In the end, I went with the whole "hit the big guys with a bomb, then run away until they go to sleep and do it again"

Now I've hit the navel and I'm wondering how TF I'm supposed to deal with the fire-throwing feckers hanging out in this wilderness. Each new area brings me new challenges that I was not prepared for. I'm going to try for all 30 ship parts by the end of the game if I can, but I will settle with 26 (i already picked up the giant ray-gun fucker that's an optional part)

Now trying to figure out when it's best to go back to the crash site for the only other part there. Feels bad wasting an entire day in the area for just 1 part but I'm gonna need to do it at some point, and I'd like to do it before something nasty spawns there.
