Spring has sprung so hard that there's only one more month left of it, so it's time for a spring-themed Retro Game Talk Nostalgia Society!!! This month, Pikmin!

Get a copy from The Repo (or just use a copy you already own) and let's get playing!!!!

If you're wondering what's going on, this is the Retro Game Talk Nostalgia Society, where we all get together once-a-month and pick a game to play through at the same time. If you're still confused, check out our previous threads below for more of a picture of what we do here.

I've got it installed and ready to go, but I'm also trying to mess around with EmuDeck to try and get RetroAchievments working for the game before I really get into it.

Want to be able to update my achievements for the first time since I played The Grinch at Christmas lmao

man i barely played pikmin 3 on WiiU and it was pretty frantic
then i was speedrunning it trying to get the lowest amount of days spent 100% the game, so many bugs (had to unpatch the game to version 1.0) including a few that skip MORE THAN HALF THE GAME.
i never played pikmin 1 or 2 before, i got the switch remakes, i hope they didn't ruin anything on them...

ah crap pikmin 3 on switch has more content too (AND 2 PLAYER STORY CO_OP!?)

Pikmin is incredible but incredibly stress inducing. I'll still be keeping up to date with this thread considering I love the series but never will put myself to play it. Its another one of those games

And that's a wrap.

Been a while since I last played Pikmin 1 (original non-modded version anyway), but I still know the tricks it seems lol. Decided to check the RetroAchievements page for this game and add a bit of extra challenge for myself this month and try and get them all. Learned some new strategies, like beating the Forest of Hope without any blue Pikmin. Final in game time was 11 days. Gonna try and clear up the rest of the achievements on the list.

Happy 1 year anniversary, Nostalgia Society! 🎉🥳🎆

And what an amazing turn out for the polls! That was neck-and-neck all the way 'til the very end.

Well, I hope you're all prepared, because this game is deceptively challenging!

(Fr though, congrats @X y b e r - S k u ll for the blisteringly fast comp!)

I doff my cap to thee. 🧢

A few months back, I asked RGT to suggest some short games for me to complete, and in return I was recommended some stonkingly good titles, chief amongst them happening to be Pikmin.

Even with Pikmin Oracle and paragon of patience @MasterEn guiding me every step of the way, my first playthrough took just shy of 18 hours...and victory didn't come easy!!

I'm looking forward to starting this new playthrough, as it's the perfect excuse for me to pick up the cheevos I missed on my first NG. Time to lock in. 🔒

And with that, all that's left to say is:

Good luck, all runners!

Bro you beat pikmin in a single day?

H H How?

childhood favourites of mine
Same, I remember being so obsessed with this game, but I never beat it ::sadkirby So far only ZOE and Pikmin are games I have actual nostalgia for since they came out and I played them when I was young ^_^

I remember the time limit is what stressed me out about this game. I loved the design, but always felt I needed to do everything perfect each day and the "deadline" always looming made me anxious to play it as a kid ::sadkirby

Also makes me sad when losing pikmin ::sadkirby
Pikmin Oracle and paragon of patience @MasterEn
That was my first thought when I saw the thread: @MasterEn's pikmin posting is the reason I already have the game ready to go ^_^ That motivated me to replay it a bit, but now to really go for it!

I picked a great time to start getting involved in the forums. Pikmin is hands-down my favorite video game series. I recently played through the Pikmin^2 hack, which recreates Pikmin 1 in the Pikmin 2 engine and includes a completely new second story featuring Louie.
Of all the games, Pikmin 1 has my favorite vibe. Despite having a countdown time and some very unforgiving bosses, it feels very chill and reflective. You are all alone; no other Hocotatians to talk to. Exactly the opposite vibe of Pikmin 4.

Oooh. This sounds like a fun challenge.

Started playing today. It's really addicting. The time limit is what chased me off of the game back when I was a younger man, but it's adding some excitement this time around. Though, it does feel like it's at odds with the really pleasant, cute vibe of the game. All in all, I'm having a great time. I've found five parts so far.

Eyyyyyy time to get my plant buddies eaten!
Also, I deeply regret this comment. RIP, plant buddies... Gone but not forgotten 😭

I played and beat this a couple years ago I think. Not recently enough that it'll be a cakewalk but not so long ago that I won't remember the gist.
It's definitely a game you can beat in a couple days if playing so it's not surprising to see it done already.
