Me I never forgive my good memories.

is that scooby doo game, any good?

I remember quite a few things about the PS1 era, a couple of random memories that come to mid are:

Discovering the big cheat for Crash Bandicoot 1 and thinking I was a god having unlocked everything.
Renting MGS1 from Blockbuster, finishing it and being completely stunned by how amazing it was.
Owning a copy of the 'Blown away' promotional VHS tape and being mind drugged with all the eye candy on screen.
Using the Piranha in Wipeout 2097 and hearing Firestarter bgm.
Finishing RE2 then saying wtf... a scenario B?
Unlocking Gon in Tekken 3.
Telling my friend there was a nude code for Tomb Raider but it just made Lara explode and of course locking the butler in the freezer in Tomb Raider 2
My friend coming over and playing FF8 and told me 'Did you use the lamp yet?' and helped me get Doomtrain.
Playing Crash Bandicoot 2 baby polar bear demo from OPM over and over.

i dont have many memories as a kid but one i always remember is when living in Stone Mountain Georgia every friday me and my dad went to blockbuster and pizza hut behind the now infamous BP gas station on Redan road and got some PS1 games.

idk if i remember this because of pure nostalgia as a kid in the 90s or if its the last fond memory i have of my father before he became the man he is today,
But booting up a ps1 game wether it be physical or emulated always brings me back, i even go so far to if i plan on playing ps1 during the weekend i make sure to order pizza hut

FF8 has been my first real videogame, the one that pushed me toward games (the first-first has been "Tomb Raider 2", but it's FF that I consider as a starting point): I've played them on pc and I've never owned a ps1, but when I got psp I've fulfilled my dream to play FF9 among others so yes, I have good memories of that generation!

My best friend and I spent countless afternoons researching which games to buy with our - incredibly limited - student budgets.

To me, seeing dreamed-of games slowly come into view on Google and then debating whether or not to pull the trigger on them was as much part of the fun as actually playing them, and every bike ride through cold streets just to get to the game store was an adventure in and of itself.

I know the PS1 had great games, but I wouldn't have enjoyed them nearly as much without everything that happened beyond the screen.

after playing just a few minutes of wipeout with that soundtrack in the background you just knew this was truly the future of gaming , and then it got even better after discovering alien trilogy and the legendary twisted metal 2.

A rookie cop and college girl walk unknowingly into a zombie apocalypse.

A bandicoot fighting a mad scientist with a possible skin condition.

I've seen mitochondria take life of its own and become self-aware at Christmas in 1998 NYC.

I've seen the third entry of a popular 3d Namco fighting game be better than it's original arcade counterpart.

I've seen the 3D Sony version of Streets of Rage my older brother and I used to play.

I experienced Wu-Tang.

All moments lost in time. Like eggs off a hooker's stomach or something.

Time...for game.....over......

If you say the most hours i spent playing PS 1 it would be playing this game

and to be honest this is one of the few games that i can actually discuss with my mom since she's also a big fan of harvest moon, so i'll be asking her for tips, any clue to the bachelor, bachelorette. Although i already surprassed her knowledge on optimizing my run.

And i mean the excact translation hack '>'
(i mean harvest moon are such a peak game right?)

I never had a ps1 but I started emulating ps1 games while it was still an active console. My computer could barely handle it so I mostly played jrpgs where the lower framerates didn't matter. That's how I played Final Fantasy VII and IX, IX had just come out pretty recently, X hadn't been released yet. I also played Chrono Cross, Xenogears, and the psx port of Final Fantasy 1. The games took up a lot of space so I ended up burning them onto CDs and printing out cover art and stuff for them. I actually probably still have them kicking around somewhere with the rest of my CDs.

Experiencing the original playstation that way for the first time really warped my view of the console and I always just thought of it as being slow and action games on the n64 were obviously way better. To this day it still sort surprises me when action games on the playstation are fast. It's hard to shake that impression that emulating psx games on old computers with janky emulators left on me.

all sorta memories from Crash Bandicoot games

every time me and my older brother played crash bandicoot 1, we always wrote the passwords for the levels. it was such a fun time; or when that time i found out about the red gem in second game without any help, i was amazed and shocked.

playing Gran Turismo II for the first time was such a nice time. having an actual first time proper driving game experience and on top of that with the soundtrack, it blew me away.

i remember i bought a disc and the cover in the case of this disc was mario and i asked myself : what is mario doing here?
and when played the disc i realized ohhhhh it's actually a NES emulator packed with bunch of games.

Emulators didn't do them justice at the time, and that is why I am glad we had both an N64 and PS1. There were a lot of 50-60fps games on the console.

Yeah they were pretty bad. I remember epsxe having a ton of individual game tweaks that needed to be turned on and off depending on what game you were playing. I was lucky if I got more than 15fps most of the time unless it was a fully 2d game like FF Origins. I did randomly end up with a playstation and a few random games at some point but by that time I had a ps2 and this was pretty close to the end of the ps2's lifecycle so I never actually played on it much. My friends and family mostly had n64s so I didn't even get to play anyone else's playstation. In a lot of ways it stayed kind of a mystery console for me until emulation got better and even now I haven't actually played a lot of original playstation games.

We need to fix that; here's a list:

  • Bloody Roar 2
  • Parasite Eve
  • Resident Evil 1-3
  • Dino Crisis 2
  • Metal Fist - Japanese version of Fighting Force. It is easier and controls so much better
  • Tony Hawks Pro Skater 1-3
  • Panzer Bandit - 2D Guardian Heroes style brawler.
  • Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold & Street Fighter Alpha 3
  • Street Fighter EX2
  • Tekken 3
  • Crash Bandicoot 2 & 3
  • One
  • Silent Bomber
  • Doom PSX
  • Fear Effect 1 & 2
  • Mega Man 8 & Mega Man X4
  • Gran Turismo 2
  • Syphon Filter 2
  • Wild 9

I didn't grow up with a PS1, but I got a PlayStation Classic for my birthday back in 2018. I loved the thing to death and played so much Final Fantasy VII and Ridge Racer Type 4 at my grandma's house over Christmas break. Jumping Flash was also a fun game and I enjoyed the little I played of Cool Boarders before going back to playing FFVII again.

The only problem with the PlayStation Classic is that Sony cheaped out and got the worse versions of all the games. They're the European/UK versions that all play at a worse frame rate of 50fps. I can't take your love away, but it's really noticeable with non-RPGs or fighting games.

Playing PS1 with my cousin is one of my most cherished memories

We would play Legend of Mana co-op. I still vividly remember we both playing together, writing down the Dubbear language on a piece of paper and getting stuck for hours.

We never did finish the game, we didn't know english and internet access was limited (not the we could find resources in our language anyways).

Years later, I finished Legend of Mana by myself. It's a great game.

I also remember this one hacked Spyro 3. When you booted up the game, it would take you to screen asking if you wanted some cheats with a sick techno beat on the background. Funnily enough, since our english knowledge was limited, we never used the cheats lol.

I also remember we could never finish Spyro 3 because the last boss room wouldn't load and Spyro would just be running in a empty void.

Oh wait, I forgot I also played all the Megaman X games and Megaman 8. I don't know how I forgot about those ones. They actually worked well because they were all 2d. I burned copies of all of them too. I played all the Tony Hawk games on n64 back in the day. I can't really get into them any more I've tried. Out of your list I've tried all the fighting games and I owned Resident Evil 2 on n64. I'll look into the rest though. I see Parasite Eve mentioned a lot. I'm probably not going to play Doom though. I've played Doom too many times on too many different platforms. Is Crash Bandicoot 2 & 3 better than the first one? I have tried that but I didn't really like it.

I own many dozens of PS1 games. The very first of which was the most excellent Mortal Kombat Trilogy when I was maybe 11~12 y/o. I learned how to make people very angry as a Baraka main..::eggmanlaugh

I sank SO many hours as a teenager into Star Ocean: The Second Story. It's the only 80+ hour RPG that I beat more than once or twice..

::chocobo-waveIt was also the peak of the Squaresoft golden era: FFVII, Parasite Eve, Brave Fencer Musashi, Bushido Blade 2...

I 100%'d all three Crash Bandicoot games ::crack-bandicoot (including most of the Platinum medals in Warped)..

I managed to totally luck my way into unlocking Roger/Alex in Tekken 2..

Unlocked the majority of the cars in Ridge Racer type-4. That game was beyond beautiful for a PS1 game back in the day..

Getting demo discs via Official Playstation Magazine and Playstation Underground was something that I low-key miss..

The list goes on & on & on... ::alucard

Crash Bandicoot 2 & 3 better than the first one?
Yes. Especially the second game.

I've played Doom too many times on too many different platforms.
Doom PSX is a different experience and almost turns into a survival horror on the level of Doom 64. Check this out:

How similar to Doom 64? I owned that one too.
