RGT Nostalgia Society #12 - Pikmin

clearly getting a bit easier with the finding of the radar
Oh yea! Forgot to ask if you had radar, I didn't realize you just chuck pikmin up there to get it (if I recall that's how to get it?) as I didn't realize they can carry stuff down really steep slopes >_<
I went with the whole "hit the big guys with a bomb, then run away until they go to sleep and do it again"
Throwing enough red pikmin on their asses surprising them should take them out. I haven't found bombs necessary for enemies. I thought you were supposed to bomb that one asshole in the forest navel because pimin don't really attack it, but @DanCalibur shared how you are supposed to kill it >_<
Now I've hit the navel and I'm wondering how TF I'm supposed to deal with the fire-throwing feckers hanging out in this wilderness.
Reds withstand fire, just throw enough and it should take them out without losing too many. Also, run around and "aggro" and divert the enemy attacks away from pikmin: that's how I deal with the frogs, I only fight those if absolutely necessary. I think there is a "rhythm" for throwing the pikmin for the frogs to minimize losses (too many and they will get unnecessarily flattened).

Captain's Log, Stardate: 4W 5H17
29 parts have been successfully incorporated into the Dolphin, but goddammit, I really want that piggy bank. I mean, there's probably like, 10 whole dollars in there! That's probably worth the fruitless sacrifice of a couple hundred Pikmin, right?

The preparations were made surprisingly quick, and I was surprised at just how quickly the Blue Piks built them bridges, I barely even had enough time to move the cardboard box and fetch all the bombs I needed. However, they will not be needed for this endeavour, and I sent them home. Only Reds and Yellows, here.

I learned in later attempts, that it was best to dismiss my Pikmin beforehand and just trigger Bulblax with Olimar, and he has a much lower refractory period than any of the Pikmin.
GPIE01_2026-05-15_00-41-02.png

Many good min were lost this fine day, and every single fella felled was like a dagger in my heart and a scar upon my flesh. There were no Yellow Pikmin in this battle, but ones of beautiful, glimmering, Gold instead. Each flashing like a bright star in the dark maw of our enemy to stop him from doing that stupid hopping shit that's just utter bullshit like holy crap someone should've been fired over that.
GPIE01_2026-05-15_00-51-32_1.png

My ultimate strategy was to try and strafe Bulblax the moment he began his licking animation to mob his flabby cheeks and recalling right when I anticipated a hop (much like with the Wolly Hops). Once he began leaping up into the air, I ran my Hocotatian ass back the safety of the back gate and tossed a singly Yellow GOLD Pikmin in a Kamikaze manoeuvre to stun him, then rush him with Red Pikmin and repeat until dead.

And so, our journey this May has come to a HAPPY close, and now Olimar can return home safely. Hopefully there will be no financial shenanigans to incite another stupid adventure with an incompetent crewmen who I hate with a passion for stealing all my fucking juice you stupid goon.

I had a lot of fun actually participating in the thread this time, and I hope I'll make enough of a stink with a later game to shame me into to taking part in the next one.

If I do decide to do any challenge run stuff, it's going to be with Pikmin 1^2, since then it'll be kind of like taking the limiters off with the better engine.

I might have to do another run myself. For some reason my RA profile says I beat this on Softcore which is definitely not the case...
I don't care about chasing the completion but I definitely don't like the Beaten status to have an asterisk implying I ever did any State Saving or other cheating!

AAAAAAAAAAAAND done, not only beat it for the first time ever, but also i 30 part'd it

Are... you telling me... the reason so many Pikmin died to a cross between a bug and a Dark Soul Boss... WAS BECAUSE A PIGGY BANK!!!???... to be fair, money is important so it is a valid point

Overall, the battle with the Emperor bulbax was intense, it was literally my last day, so every second counted, but i managed to beat the Fat Bastard and nab the safe in the nick of time, literally, by the time the pikmin was near the ship, the ten second countdown begun
I would lie if i said the experience was smooth and fun, the timer was the real final boss and sometimes the Pikmin felt like if they hated their lives for how dumb they could get when left alone and even when directing them, at times i had to restart or rewind entire levels becausei messed pikming management or part gathering, but to be fair, i also would lie if i said the game was awful and i hated it, the game was hard, but a nice kind of hard, one that made me feel relief when all my Pikmin managed to gather safely in their onions, oh right, my final score
IMG_20260520_210705.jpg

Yeah, maybe compared to most of you here, i maybe peraphs possibly in a chance commited some Pikmin slaughter, hey, at least the surviving 151 finally know how to keep their pointy noses safe

With all said, my mission is done, thanks a lot tricolor carrots, and maybe we'll meet again

Well done🥳🥳🥳
Now go for challenge mode😈😈😈
But seriously, the 9 days challenge was easy compared to the challenge mode achievements🥶

It helps me ensure the eventual Pikmin 2 agenda WILL be pushed…
You got me this time, PikPik Gunsou-san, but I'm all Pik'ed out for awhile, so the Pikmin Army will be retiring for the time being. Sound off...

Yay ^_^ I also beat pikmin today ^_^

::omgdoom The last guy is a nightmare! I guess my strategy was not good though, I spaced out bombers like this before encountering

And circled so he would eat them, get stunned, then throw red pikmin on him, call them back, repeat. That seems like what they want you to do? But once the fucker starts hopping around you get wrecked >_< idk, maybe there is a better way?

Heard he's easier in 2, but worse in 4. I'm not sure if there's a truly effective strategy against Bulblax, hopefully are resident super star @DanCalibur can provide us with a solution to the fat fuck.

You know, try as I might, I can't get anywhere close to growing the minimum number of Pikmin needed for the achievements in challenge mode. I've ran through the Impact Site level dozens of times now, and I always get to about ~140 Pikmim at full time, a farcry from the necessary 200. I have no idea how you pulled this off @DanCalibur but I salute you 🫡

It takes a lot of trials to figure out the optimal route and you are forced to use the right Pikmin color for every pellet to maximize seed generation. If I remember correctly, for the impact site you just need to collect everything before the bomb door and that would give you more than 200. I checked perfect score guides on YouTube after many failures and noticed the challenge achievements demand some very arcane knowledge of the game workings, for the impact site for instance, there's a way to get non yellows up the geyser that saves a huge amount of time😅
And doing it one at a time also helps a lot😁

On a much more aggressive pace. Lost so many blues ::sadkirby with just a straight blitz for the water part in distant spring to end the day after getting two others same day ^_^ It was retrieved during the countdown O_o I could aggro and distract the frogs pretty good but they got some slams in ::sadkirby

I have still never left any behind ^_^

Exactly. Something I learned (especially with Pikmin 1) is that Pikmin will die in combat. It is inevitable, and the game seems to stick it's foot out trip your little fellas into their imminent demise. I call bullshit on anyone who has a death count of 0, but I find anyone with a "Left Behind" count of even one to be utter scum.

You walk your ass back and reset the clock if even a SINGLE Pikmin is left behind, because it's the one thing you can guarantee is your own fault and you can prevent. You owe those little carrot fucks that much at least...

Psh. I don't owe these savage creatures a darn thing! They should be thanking ME for leading them even if I snackrifice a thousand to the Bulbax just to save my Piggy Bank.
Because of my intervention their lost lives now have value, where before they were just tasty little treats for every other form of wildlife on this accursed planet.

Patooey!

So I finally beat Pikmin.

I hate to say it, but I didn't really enjoy my time with it. ::sailor-embarrassed It's not because it's bad or anything, far from it. It's just that I'm not into games that require planning and micromanagement.

JESUS CHRIST that was difficult.

How can there still be 4 more?! :'{
Wait until you try to get the 300 for Forest Navel...

Thankfully, The Final Trial is the easiest one of the bunch funnily enough. You've barely got to collect anything since they give you so many sprouted Pikmin all over the map to the point you don't even have to go into the boss arena.

It's just that I'm not into games that require planning and micromanagement.
Me neither! My friends would always make fun of me for how bad I was a starcraft >_< But for some reason, I have always wanted to be good at these types of games (rts macro and micro management) and so I always want to try, but my brain struggles ::sadkirby

Anyway, I think 19 days is all I'm willing to do and I still needed savestates to save my sanity on the final boss with much trial and error. I think I got the technique down? Maybe I'll go for a third time, I do find this game incredibly charming, but it is very frustrating for me >_<

That's so cool others are going the extra mile with the challenges ::heart Even the base story was and is still enough for me O_o
