Now Mark Shapiro of TKO is basically saying they are trying to mold WWE in their own image to the point where they are trying to phase out old PLEs(PPVs) that were created before they bought the company that have history. At this point I feel like after Summer 2024, the company been going downhill. I don't know if new PLE names are gonna move people. They touted Wrestlepalooza as a name despite them not being the first to use it...

And constant talk of higher ticket prices. I'm in the Baltimore area, we get a Holiday Tour date almost every year but it's always been relatively high in price but now it's straight up ridiculous. This company has the audacity to pull this stuff as ratings are tanking and people are paying attention to low attendance in places. Their prices aren't affecting how much money they are bringing in cuz because it's so high, its offsetting a lot of the lower attendance but it'll eventually catch up to them as they get more greedy and the quality of the product continues to dip.

Smackdown got good in 2016 and 2017 again was probably better than raw then they bottled it again with momentum.
Ruthless aggression was definitely the peak too.

The Nixon Newell & Alize AEW situation is interesting. I see not many are on their side even seeing people like Joey Janela & Leila Gray openly criticizing their move to walk out essentially saying they ruined an opportunity a lot of wrestlers kill for. Hyan & Maya World who took their place ended up staying behind for more tapings after the fact so that lends to that notion.

My useless opinion on it was that Nixon Newell needed this no matter how she spins it. Other wrestlers say you get 3 minutes, you make those 3 minutes count and someone like her who has a long history with injuries and still hasn't been signed anywhere or featured prominently on any indie cards after release couldn't afford to turn anything down that came her way. As far as the Alize woman goes, this doesn't help her much either again, especially if wrestlers are publicly questioning the move.

Who the hell are Nixon Newell and Alize? I'm barely following AEW at this point and I can't keep track of all of the nobodies Tony Kahn puts on TV.

Nixon Newell was Tegan Nox in WWE, far from a nobody but never reached a certain level a lot of people expected her to get. "The Girl With The Shiniest Wizard". She had some promise but ironically given her finisher and moniker she blew her knee out on multiple occasions and eventually got released. The other woman is one she been tagging with but I don't have much info on her.

Oh, right. I only ever knew of Tegan Nox by that name. I don't think I'd heard of "Nixon Newell" before

TKO now deciding that they will be erasing wwe legacy and possibly changing the names of PPV events to suit their new agenda.

Tell me: Does anybody enjoy wrestling matches where the winners get a bunch of money? AEW have been doing them a lot lately, and I can't say that I find it to be a compelling match stipulation.

If my best friend won the lottery or something, I'd be ecstatic for them but I don't know these wrestlers personally. Even if my favourite wrestlers of all time are in the match, why should I be bothered that they could win a share of like 100k or 1 million dollars?

*This isn't anti-AEW sentiment by the way, I just don't get the appeal of this stipulation and they seem to use it quite a bit ::sailor-embarrassed

yeah, the matches are fun but I think it's pointless and I was actually at one of the shows where that stipulation was in place for one of the matches 😅

Seems like an odd attempt at copying money in the bank.

Yeah, I didn't expect it to be him as the mystery opponent. Not only that, wrestling as Zack Ryder seeing as he made NXT appearances with his real name and vowed years ago that "Zack Ryder is dead". But one thing that supersedes all that has been his desire to make it back to the WWE by any means necessary and I guess if they tell him to change his name back, he'll do it in a heartbeat.

Thought wwe did a decent job of their MSG show but to be real they only do that because its MSG.
And for the first time since the return of this type of match, the WarGames match will have a truly good lineup.

This is what I hate about so many wrestlers. They are so star struck with WWE they will give up their pride or sell their soul to be in that company. Even the ones who leave eventually become desperate to return and will do anything to come back. See CM Punk for example, who has given up any semblance of pride or self respect since returning.

Like what is the obsession with this company? They're not the only game in town.

CM Punk plays the good boy game which finally ensures what he wanted all along. Being on the merchandise and being a face of the company. Hes not causing any trouble or being controversial which i would say was a heavy part of his contract anyway.

I've seen some geek on youtube ranting about Maxine beating Becky Lynch because it "kills Becky's momentum" and Maxine isn't great in the ring. I honestly don't care. WWE is so predictable that I just was happy to see a match result that I didn't expect. As far as Becky goes, who cares? She's done everything and is already a guaranteed hall of famer, I don't care if she loses to some lower midcarder. Becky is untouchable at this point in her career. Frankly, I find her boring as she is just another one of those people who constantly gets pushed much like her husband. I'm tired of the same people dominating WWE all the time. Just give Maxime a brief run with the belt, then have some one else take it from her. That's fine by me. I'm more into her having a title run than I was with the boring as hell US title reigns of Zelina Vega and Giulia, two boring as fuck characters who had no story whatsoever.

Internet nerds place far too much importance on workrate and not storytelling. This was the logical conclusion of Maxine's ongoing character arc since she left Smackdown and joined Alpha Academy. She was the amateur trying to get better that nobody took seriously because of her background and pretty face. She had to deal with people bullying her and insulting her, and people like Chad Gable manipulating and using her. Her beating Becky Lynch for the IC title actually pays all of that off. It's good storytelling, something we rarely get in WWE these days. Most of the time WWE just has random shit happen for no reason whatsoever like Cody Rhodes being in a war games match with the Vision when there's far more justification for LA Knight to be in that match.

I tell you when I watch wrestling with casuals they don't give a fuck about "workrate". They actually complain about matches being too long. What they care about is who is the face, who is the heel, and what is the story. Wrestling was mega popular in the 80s and no one had the workrate that you see today, you could even say the same about the Attitude Era.

I will say though that the finish to the match was pretty lame. Becky got pinned by that?

Maxime beating Becky and Kyle O'Reilly tapping out Moxley was such a breath of fresh air from two products where everything is so damn predictable. I didn't see either of those scenarios happening and was happy to be surprised. Kyle looked like a badass on Wednesday holding that submission on Moxley even as the Deathriders were attacking him. I'm not looking forward to him probably losing to Mox on Saturday though, I don't think we needed to see these two fight again just so Mox can get his win back. Mox is so stale and boring at this point in his career that he should be doing nothing but putting people over.

Hangman and Samoa Joe has been built up pretty well. Both of these guys legit feel like main eventers and badass alpha males. I like how Hangman has flipped the script on Joe making it seem like he's the underdog going into this, not Hangman. Joe always likes to act like he's this super predator and everybody else is just waiting to get their asses kicked by him. Hangman actually has Joe looking scared now.
