Well, giving any more hints would be pretty much giving the game away so might as well just do that. Here's the title screen:

I can't remember how I encountered this one. I think it was on the cover CD of some gaming mag I bought ages ago because I certainly did not hang around AGS forums back in the day. It's still available to download and it's pretty good. Works on Windows 10 without much of a hassle too. Worth a playthrough if you're a fan of the genre.

@ThatOneLum was the closest and would probably find the game sooner or later so I think it's fair if he takes it away.

It seems like a stumping has been done, so the answer is Dark Earth. I always remembered this scene in the beginning where a guy describes a girl he didn't get off with as having run away from him 'like a fart on an oil slick'.

Nice work Samatonic! It is Undermine. And it is indeed on Switch, as well as other systems, but I've been playing on Switch.

The game's called One. What a nondescript title. That's one way to consign your game to obscurity.
