Anime Obscure Anime

i saw recently daishizen no majuu bagi, by osamu tezuka, looks to be relatively unknown despite the prominent creator.
i lieked it, bcz the woman character did all the work and our guy could sit out the danger.
it has a sad ending, nature and science are not holistic, humanity cant just mix and match like it is its right
my favourite character was the black despot, probably based on idi amin, the ugandan dictator
Ah yes, the furry girl.

Robocop.jpg

Bubblegum Crisis has a trio of short prequel stories called AD Police Files. It was meant to be a longer series but a legal dispute cut it short.

My favorite among the three is The Man Who Bites His Tongue. It's allegedly a retelling of Robocop but with a much darker tone.

I'm legit sad about the dispute. I also agree about Episode 3.

But then again the economic bubble has burst and Crash isn't as good (except the third episode somehow).

I really miss old school cyberpunk animes.

Does Corpse Party: Tortured Souls count? I haven't heard anyone talk about it in quite a while ( maybe because the Corpse Party fandom is basically dead T-T)

It might count, though like a lot of the anime mentioned on this forum of mine it's hard to say if it's obscure or not.

Idk if this is obscure but I’ve seen no one talk about it besides seeing it on the SGT HI-C album cover.

It counts, I'd say because people are more familiar with the game than the anime.

Some of these have already been mentioned, or were not obscure in the past, but Noir, Texhnolyze, Ergo Proxy, Paranoia Agent, Wolf's Rain, Zatch Bell, Blood Plus, DNA², Video Girl AI, Boku dake ga Inai Machi, Golden Boy, Plastic Neesan, Ima Soko ni Iru Boku, Please Save My Earth, Iria: Zeiram the Animation.

Pic unrelated, just Arioch from Drakengard.

Most obscure one i can think of, is Haibane Renmei.

Basically about a walled in... country? Where these girls who lost their memories are in limbo, have wing and a halo so are akin to angels with halos and wings. They either succumb to their failures/nightmares and sins, or they turn into birds and fly away. Meanwhile they are basically normal girls working and living and being part of a small town environment.

The series is very slow. So it's not going to be part of the action/adventure boy crowd usual.
Love Haibane Renmei <3 I got to see some of the dub cast during a panel at a convention :3 I don't know if I would call it obscure though. It's not as popular as Lain, but pretty much anyone that is an ABE fan has seen it. It could be considered obscure though I guess, hey, at least it never aired on toonami... I think that instantly disqualifies "obscure".

I would think there's something like 100 or 200 animes that you could call mainstream and recognized. Coyboy BeBop, Bleach, Naruto, etc etc. Then there's probably another 400 you might see in passing. After that i would call it obscure. Which probably means most anime unless it got popular or a big uptick.

Green Green for example I'm sure I've only seen because i downloaded it, otherwise i never knew it existed, same for Those who Hunt Elves, DAQ, and Aishiteru Ze Baby.

Maze
I only know exists because it was a preview in my Slayers Discs.

Dash Kappei is probably the most obscure anime I'm a huge fan of. Its a really solid gag anime for the first half but once I reached the ping pong wrestling arc it grew to be one of my favorites. Wish the manga was translated. This one ending hurt since theres not much to feel the void.
