What're some anime that you may have watched that are obscure or you at least think might be obscure?

I would like Kakyuusei, Happy Happy Clover, Magical Nyan Nyan Taruto, Fighting Foodons, maybe some more if I look at what all I've watched.

I don't actually talk to anyone about anime, so I've got no idea what's obscure. I just finished a delightful Wacky Races-ass show called Appare-Ranman!, does that count?

Is Gungrave considered obscure? It seemed pretty popular back in the day, but nowadays not many people talk about it.

I'm also not familiar with it, so maybe? I think if it's not talked about as much or often then maybe it's considered obscure nowadays, though it's just my guess.

I never watched the anime but the PS2 games were pretty kickass.

I don't really hang out with otaku so I don't know if these are genuinely unknown but I reckon the earliest anime series I watched on tv would be considered obscure by now on account of being relatively old (just like me I guess) and not part of any famous franchise (definitely like me).
Same goes for a number of lesser known shows, some of which like Silent Möbius only aired once, often late at night, so you better not forget to program your vcr.

Arjuna (aka Earthgirl Arjuna), Noir and the Candidate for Goddess which I probably liked only because it reminded me a little of Zone of the Enders.

Golden Boy was definitely a "little" age-inappropriate for a 13 year old 😆 but it's pretty light-hearted and silly.

Oh that cover rings a bell:
Oof, when I finally saw it years later? It was so much gentler than the "legends" we made up about it, me and the idiots in the back of the shop playing Magic all thought Golden was indicating something very different.

(It's also great, if anyone hasn't watched it, with gorgeous animation and an endearing lead character!)

Bakuretsu Tenshi/Burst Angel a mid 2000 mecha/ecchi anime series that I think is an obscure one. It had the elements of what could’ve been a good anime such as giant mechas and gunslinging waifus but fell short on story and pacing.

There's this anime that was broadcast in Italy on CN, in 2008. I saw it as a child, and I remember that I enjoyed it a lot - that year they also broadcast Zatch Bell, a good year to start watching anime, lol

However, they only broadcast the final episode once, after a thousand reruns, and it never appeared on television again. I only saw 5 minutes of that episode, because I believed they would never conclude the final battle. On the internet I only found one site that shows it in full, but in Japanese.

I will keep only animes I actually like, but I did also consumed a lot of obscure trash in my lifetime.

Fushigiboshi no Futagohime
Just a cute magical girl show about twin princesses. Even though this one is a Junichi Satou show, not even his fans seens to want to watch this lol

nx604-gZkEfz6DBhGu.jpg

Mahou no Stage Fancy Lala
Weirdly enough, it is a bit more known than some really good Toei magical girls, but you still have to dig quite a bit inside the magical girl niche to hear about most Pierrot magical girls aside of Creamy Mami.

Shichinin no Nana
Actually very fun show about a girl living with 6 clones of her. Just like the name implies, I'm convinced there are exactly 7 fans of this show scattered across earth.

Cosmic Baton Girl Comet-san
One of the best magical girl shows I've watched, but also one that only got a complete fan translation very recently. Despite having style, music and a mood that could easily rival something like Doremi, no one even knows this thing exist.

Fushigi Mahou Fun Fun Pharmacy
Probably the least known good Toei Magical Girl, despite most episodes being 12 minutes long, it has a pretty interesting universe and a lovable protagonist. That show also oozes style in a way you would expect from those weird Toei shows.

Jewelpet Happiness
The entire Jewelpet franchise is unknown outside of japan, but Happiness is so good, I find it a crime even people who are interested in this series stops watching before even give this season a chance. Like any other Jewelpet, you don't need any knowledge about the other series to watch. It's just a very solid cute girls doing cute things show with some surreal comedy.

Marie & Gali
A very stylish show about a gothic lolita learning science with a bunch of caricatures of historical figures. Do I really gotta explain why most people won't watch an educational show about science?

Kamisama Minarai: Himitsu no Cocotama
As you would probably guess, the niche of shows about cute animals is not very popular, and what happens when you are unknown inside the unknown niche? Exactly! No one watches you! I'm yet to talk to another person who actually watched it. But's a pretty fun anime.

Most of those shows have under 500 completed watches on Anilist. My take away from most of this is that people just don't like watching shows made for girls. Which is understandable.

Takarajima is so good, I'm glad I watched it. But yeah, pretty much everyone I knows that watched this show were Osamu Dezaki fans.

Zenki is fun, its a forgotten Shonen jump series that was never translated into English as a manga, but got an alright dub. Girl awakens this ancient god Zenki to fight demons, but he's a kid when she summons him and only she can turn him back into an adult to fight.

Hell Teacher Nube is good, and its getting a remake soon. About a teacher who also is as an expert exorcist, and his hand is a demon's that he sealed inside himself. Shenanigans ensue because Shonen jump series.

The first Yu-Gi-Oh series, called season 0 by most people, is really great and definitely worth a watch. Its animated by Toei, and it was pre-card game era, so most episodes are interesting other games and good stories you can just enjoy. Great character development and writing. The last arc is an entire DND campaign. Great series, IMO the best Yu-Gi-Oh has to offer.

Burn-Up Excess is fun, but I wouldn't call it amazing. You really have to have a tolerance for fan service. To put into perspective how much there is, theres an entire jiggle counter you can turn on on the dvd, and I think thats all I really need to say for that.

There's lots of random series I can list off, but those are what I've had on my mind lately or been watching.

Urda comes to mind, I remember getting early fan-subs CD-R's back in the early 2000s of this short, and strange ONA.
You beat me to it lmfao I picked it up at a 2nd and Charles store for $5 last year and has been a blast giving me and some friends 6 pack abs from all of our laughter. Another find from there that was pretty obscure was 'seikano girlfriend', recently also saw 'Loups=Garous' and the drescription on the box was interesting, but I didn't commit this time around.
