Mega Man Megathread

pleasantly surprised after x7, got everything you could in it. i find it unkind to revisits though, would rather just play any other game.

that's good. i remembered reading about that the bricking thing. hardlocking sounds like it would be easy to mistake for bricking. good to hear that it was fixed.
As someone who first played Mighty No. 9 on Wii U and enjoy it unironically despite the issues it has in and out of the Kickstarter controversies that angry losers are obsessed with, my console is still working even after having dealt with two crashes out of the 60+ hours I put into it. Just goes to show that internet douchebags will try to fabricate problems with the game to make it worse than it actually is because "it's the cool thing to do"... [rolls eyes]

As for Mega Man X8, I think it's a decent game in my opinion, a vast improvement over X7 no doubt, but it's major issues are the lack of actual level design and over-reliance on gimmicks, grinding for metals to get some of the unlockables feels like a chore, and the music not being as memorable as the previous games in the X series. I tried the demake and, controversial opinion ahead, I didn't think it was the masterpiece that many are chalking it out to be. While I do like some of the new levels, I think it goes overboard on overcorrecting the original game's "issues" and having less features like no playable Zero or Axel from the get-go (I know there are mods but I don't think that should have been necessary in the first place), not to mention the demake only has one save slot when the original game gave you at least five. Some of the bosses can be a cheap pain in the ass to deal with and feel like they were designed for speedrunning.

Never played them.
X6,X7 and X8 are the only ones from the X series that I didn't play.
The OP song for X8 is fire tho.

Mega man has some pretty great spinoffs, not gonna lie.

Actually, I liked Megaman 9 & 10. However, I never understood, if this was a necessary NES downgrade feeling, after the jump to Megaman 7, 8 and Megaman & Bass...

The whole reason MM9 and MM10 existed is to pander to nostalgic adults who played MM2 as kids and thought it was the peak Classic Mega Man. The retro style was necessary for this purpose.

Is there any way to play the Mega Man Zero games with the Remastered Soundtracks yet?
I love those games with all of my heart but the Remastered OST's are so good i can't go back to listening to those songs on a GBA soundchip again.

It's pure nostalgia baiting. Going from Mega Man's 8 visuals to the 8 bit sprites again was so disappointing i never understood how people back then ate that shit up without complaining.

Mmm... Unnecesary Retro/8-Bit transition, if you ask me.
I mean, Megaman classic was invading back the Nintendo Gamecube/PlayStation 2 era,
and I was deceived by Capcom with not releasing Megaman Mania (for Gameboy Advance, understandable to certain reach),
instead, questioning why so light games/roms, will be in a Nintendo Gamecube game.
Years later, I figured out why Dx"
This is the main reason I debutted NESticle and FCEUX Emulator.

People ate it up because of the combination of a mainstream retro-styled game being a genuinely unique concept at the time and the "OMG ITS JUST LIKE MEGA MAN 2" factor.

None of these games are spin-offs.
They feel like it.
To be pedantic, they’re more sub-series than spin-off. Spin-offs imply that they’re connected to the original thing’s story/setting, while sub-series just mean that they’re their own thing under the same brand.

Although if were even more pedantic, X is a sequel to Classic, Zero is a sequel to X and ZX is a sequel to ZX.

But who cares really. Play the ones you like.

Actual spin-offs of classic MM would be something like Battle & Chase or Megaman Soccer.

I was going to put Megaman soccer on there.
I think I should've worded my post better.

Some Mega Man fans REALLY care about that, and you're hurting their feelings right now. /j
All the biggest Megaman fans HATE Megaman

The more I think about that the more true that sounds lol
Because it’s one of those series that doesn’t really get games anymore, but the individual game series all very different, so everyone has their little tribe, but in those tribes everyone has played their series of choice a billion trillion times so they have a super trained critical eye on it.

Can you really call yourself a Mega Man fan unless you hate at least 80% of this godforsaken franchise?
Haha, it’s always good to be critical of the things you like indeed, I just prefer focusing on the aspects I like personally. I don’t really care about something like X6 or Starforce (or Legends even, I just love how they look, don’t send me to the gallows) because I don’t care for the games, but I have plenty of fun with from from Classic, X and Zero, so it’s no matter :)

There aren’t a lot of game brands that have this sort of subseries thing going now that I think about it, where it’s easy to play all of it if you really like the brand, but also really easy to ignore uninteresting stuff because there are whole series of games that are super different.
