True. If there’s one thing that’s always been true of Capcom, even in their classic days, it’s that they’re a VERY safe company. They will occasionally poke the waters, since they know that’s the only way to move forward, but they’re one of the ultimate franchise milkers in the industry and they seem to hit walls with their IP frequently.
Mega Man isn’t the only IP to be in this state. Many of their series got many games before hitting a kind of sales ceiling or their developers moved to other projects. What makes Mega Man UNIQUELY FRUSTRATING is that nearly every sub-series has unresolved plot lines that seem to indicate, to fans, that more games are promised to be coming. However, this is similar to a good Netflix series that’s cancelled after one season: the only thing promised is that the creators WANTED to make more. That does not in any way mean that is a promise that more will be made.
