Mega Man Megathread

Stupid question but Net Navis are exclusively digital beings with 0 physical existence?
At first, things get crazy later on (specially in the anime, it throws all logic aside)

If you go for the games only, later on a prototype machine body was created for them to show up in the real world (very limited to prevent "problems")

In the end, Megaman got a special one that removed one of those limits (time/energy limit)

what do you mean?
Well, I was simply referring to the anime actually, idk at which point but it goes the route of navis/digital realm in the real world and cross-fusion of human operator and netnavi, very crazy stuff.

The games don't do that besides some stuff in BN6 unless I'm missing something

Ah, I understand. I've actually been thinking about watching the anime, but hehe, responsibilities (and because I wanted to finish some other anime before watching it).

When it comes to adapting Mega Man, I think the approach should be similar to that of mainstream superhero comic-book adaptations: take the basic premise, cherry-pick things that fit the story you're going for, and then just ignore everything else and make shit up.

It would be nice if somebody said “I have a new idea for MegaMan!”

He’s been a bunch of different genres, but I wonder if there’s one he hasn’t been yet?

FPS?

Aside from that one fangame under GZDoom I don't recall any.

Has strategy been done?

I don't want to sound like a negative nancy but there's a difference between having a new idea and having a new good idea for a game franchise.

I also have no doubt that it has happened. MegaMan is… unique in the number of collections that have been released for it. And, as we all know, the Capcom Test exists to test the financial stability of making a new release.

Apparently, sales are not enough, since every collection has sold decent numbers and 11 sold the best out of every classic game. I think some folks may imagine Capcom refuses to make a new game because it won’t sell Resident Evil or Monster Hunter numbers, and while that could be true, I highly doubt that they would make a new Ghosts and Goblins if that’s all they cared about. There’s something special about Mega/RockMan. I don’t know WHAT, but this series’ relation with modern Capcom feels like watching a bad soap opera: constantly in a “will they, won’t they” state of things.

I’ve been waiting for nearly a decade AFTER Mega Man 11, let alone the long wait I had before. I will continue to wait, but I do wonder what the state of things is. Perhaps it truly IS that they’ve set the series to rest, but they don’t want to say anything because they still want to sell merch, and I’ve had enough brushes with marketing to know that people are less willing to buy something that is confirmed dead than something that has an unconfirmed chance of coming back. But, perhaps the series is simply waiting for the right person, with the right idea, with the right amount of influence to be in the right place, at the right time, and say “hey, let’s make an actual video game everybody!”

I will continue to play the games in the series that I love, regardless of the fate of the official future of the Man who is Rock.

With how capcom likes to do stuff related to Megaman since always....

I mean:

Classic Megaman: Got revived like a zombie even after he show up in Super Smash

Megaman X: Fans still waiting for X9 and see whats up with Axl. Only thing it got was a psp remake that didnt end up well and the gacha one that now is offline. But Command Mission is the odd one that give us a X story post Sigma

Megaman Zero: One of the few that did got an ending

Megaman ZX: A game got nuked that could be the link to Legends. Maybe the world got reset, maybe it didnt and humanity got the Noa Ark ending for another more natural reason

Megaman Legends: Still in the moon surviving killing machines and the promised "final boss" of the main series that never came

Battle Network: The other one that got an ending, buuuuut....

Star Force: Is in the mix. While it got a happy "ending", the fact that they nuked a final game that was the direct link with Battle Network is.... yeah...

If Capcom comes with another Megaman series outside the classic, one has to wonder how long until they decide to cancel it lol

that the first thing that crossed my mind back then with N64 Legends. One reason I was not that much interested in that game
Wasn't it like an action/adventure game akin to Zelda?

I always felt like Metroid Prime and OoT should be the basis for MM in 3D rather than pure platforming.

Or make it a 3D run 'n gun.

Legends is action adventure, through and through. It has some platforming DNA, but only in limited regards.

So this is good on paper?

Sorry but is Legend different on the N64?

What about X7 (If I recall correctly).
Mega Man 64 has some stuff cut out and compressed more to fit on a cartridge

Oh, but they keep Mega giving a victory fist up after taking a look at Roll naked

Super important stuff compared to everything else

The "3D" parts where so slow to the point that they never tried it again and later returned to the classic 2D gameplay but on 3D

Excuse me what? You're making a joke, right?

I really want to assume that it's about "exposed circuitry and internal mechanics".

Nope, in both games there is a "special" scene where Megaman ends up walking in the bath while Roll was in (we dont see anything, but Rock was Rolling!)

The best part?. In the second game not only Roll makes a reference about it in her diary, but she reduces the prices of the stuff you can buy from her lol

Yes I can understand that if you were after the usual type of Megaman game. The transition to 3d in Legends was unlike it's contemporaries' entries into 3d: Mario 64, Mystical Ninja starring Goemon, OOT or Castlevania 64 - all of which were at their core the same genre as their predecessors.

Don't knock it though, Legends was it's own thing, in a good way. It was a phenomenal take on going 3d - but I'm simply saying it had a focus more on npc interactions and quests, open world exploration, purchasing equipment upgrades etc rather than a straight up action platformer. It was more Zelda than traditional Megaman.

It would have been interesting to see Capcom try a proper transition to 3d of the classic or X games. @Ikagura I'm ignoring X7 because that game should really be disregarded as it was such a poor attempt at going to 3d.

The idea to experiment again with Megaman in capcom hands.... is hard

We are no longer in the golden age of games where companies tried to makes their ips be in different genre

After X7 got so many bad critics for the gameplay they decided to stay with the 2D/3D gameplay
