Mega Man Megathread

True. If there’s one thing that’s always been true of Capcom, even in their classic days, it’s that they’re a VERY safe company. They will occasionally poke the waters, since they know that’s the only way to move forward, but they’re one of the ultimate franchise milkers in the industry and they seem to hit walls with their IP frequently.

Mega Man isn’t the only IP to be in this state. Many of their series got many games before hitting a kind of sales ceiling or their developers moved to other projects. What makes Mega Man UNIQUELY FRUSTRATING is that nearly every sub-series has unresolved plot lines that seem to indicate, to fans, that more games are promised to be coming. However, this is similar to a good Netflix series that’s cancelled after one season: the only thing promised is that the creators WANTED to make more. That does not in any way mean that is a promise that more will be made.

Maybe with a lock-on visor like the z-targeting?

Or doing it like Kirby and the Forgotten Land with a 45° camera above the level.

We have a blue robot with an arm that goes "pew pew pew" yet no full FPS version of Rock

Turning Megaman into a fully fledged FPS wouldn't entirely fit the franchise.

A look at 8-bit deathmatch does show how it could work, there's a couple big mods that give every robot master their unique moves and makes them play very differently, like a class based shooter if anything.

But this whole shtick of overwatch type of games feels already overused, a new game like this would need to have a greater focus on single player gameplay to stand out.

8BDM is a fangame, I think fans can do what those company couldn't do as well or would implement something that would mess things up.

Also I miss when FPS required actual skill but that's another subject.

Replaying the Mega man X Legacy Collection on Steam (previously got the platinum on PS4) and ngl: not only the games look off in here for some reasons (all 4, yep), even with the filters options and resolution. Even with a Xbox One controller plugged via USB I feel I noticed input lag. 💀

i gotta git gud i guess

I just found out about this fan project, Mega Man X: Viral Nightmare. It's Mega Man X6 reimagined and rebuilt in GameMaker Studio 2. The tweaks romhack did alot a good for the game but it was a romhack so only so much could be done and I liking what I see in this game so far. Demo of first four stages coming soonish. Please be good.

  • Armor System
    • Individual parts can be used and mixed together. Armor parts get adjusted or new effects.
      • Blade armor charged shot releases a pulse on impact that marks enemies. Marked enemies receive increased damage from saber attacks.
      • Blade armor boots allow air dashing in all four directions. Can be charged to deal damage.
      • Shadow armor can now use special weapons.
      • Shadow armor gets charged sabre and new buster attack.
  • Parts Acquisition
    • Nightmare Souls are now currency used to by parts.
    • Rescuing reploids awards Nightmare Souls.
    • New parts unlock after stage completion. Different stages unlock different parts.
  • Ranking
    • Rank increases with number of reploids rescued.

I'm a firm believer that divisive games that fall between mediocre and the potential to be really good deserve full remakes the most. As I want to desperately like X6, this is beautiful, the smooth dashes sell it to me, I can no longer stand the clunky movement of the PS1 titles after playing so much Zero and ZX, the levels look much more fun as well, I would like it if the backgrounds get an improvement to make them have the same quality and animation as X4.

The more fangames the better with this franchise.::hellmo

I was playing through Rockman Rockman as Oil Man recently (don't ask), and I've noticed two things about Mega Man?:

1. Unlike the real Mega Man, who uses "boku" as his personal pronoun, Mega Man? uses "ore."

2. Mega Man? doesn't make puns ::frown

Oh I didn't know that Powered Up was named like that in Japan.

So sad that we never got the other powered up games. We can create our levels and play as the other Robot Masters (plus Roll and Proto) not to mention the nostalgia of the epic remixes of the boss stages and music

A shame that the SD look made some skip this game

That said, i still wonder why they decided to finally make a direct reveal that Roll does love Mega in her Evil/Fake Roll boss battle

Then again, i found cool how they made Protoman react at the fact that Light decided to activate another incomplete robot

This is the worst part of the game for me because it gives fuel to all the creepy people who are way too invested in the idea of Rock and Roll being romantically involved.

Is this a big deal?

I mean I don't care about romance in those games but some people will always make ships with anyone as absurd as it could be.

At best it's just a non canon thing that isn't addressed in the rest of the franchise.

I didn't ask for your opinion.

This is a semi public forum, I can answer as long as I'm not violating the rules. I don't know why you're answering harshly towards my comments in particular when I'm merely telling my opinion about the subject.

And to be honest if they wanted to make that dubious ship they didn't need to wait for this game to begin with, you can also ignore it. That's all I needed to say.

PS: Also they're machines, it's not like they know what love is about since it's a purely human concept (even animals don't really conceptualise it either).

I don't want this thread to be derailed by our bickering, so I'll only say this: I genuinely don't like you, and I wish you would stop interacting with me in any capacity.

You've talked about subject X and I've answered to subject X, how is that derailing? That's still about the Megaman franchise.

So I'll only say this: I genuinely don't like you, and I wish you would stop interacting with me in any capacity.
Then feel free to put me on the ignore list instead of answering "I didn't ask for your opinion" or asking me to stop interacting since the forum is providing the option to ignore me entirely.

PS: I will still interact with others in this thread since I'm a forum user and that this topic isn't locked. I won't delve further into that since you seem to not like when people don't share the same opinions as yours.

Back to Megaman Powered Up: I'm wondering if Oil Man and the other were just added to make it to 8 stages and bosses like the other games.

PS: Also they're machines, it's not like they know what love is about since it's a purely human concept (even animals don't really conceptualise it either).

Maybe in the original saga (a big maybe), but in the Zero series and later it was confirmed that Reploids and humans did fall in love sometimes

In X, we have the Zero and Iris case but it was more for drama than anything. The serie was "too serious" for that with Sigma being an ass every single time he had the chance

Doesnt help much that from ZX humans are more cyborgs and the only way to tell someone is a reploid is if they have that crystal thing in their head

And lets not start with the whole carbos (Roll and Tron) being in love with Volnutt in Legends. There are hints that he isnt as naive with Roll about it

Tron is the one with the bad luck

I’ve decided to include X. Not only would this be a nice way to state my position on both given that I love both (and they also belong in the same conversation due to similar structure that zero doesn’t have because his games are more exploration and lite rpg based) but it will also make some games that will rank low look better considering I love nearly all classic games, but I bet the bottom one will seem like I hate it which I don’t. Anyways here goes.
1- Megaman & Bass
2- Megaman 4
3- Megaman 3
4- Megaman 10
5- Megaman 1
6- Megaman 2
7- Megaman X1
8- Megaman X4
9- Megaman 5
10- Megaman 6
11- Megaman X2
12- Megaman 11
13- Megaman 7
14- Megaman X3
15- Megaman X8
16- Megaman 8
17- Megaman X5
18- Megaman 9
19- Megaman X6
20- Megaman X7
