Man, Gunvolt is awesome!ZX, MM&B for SNES and the X8 16-bit demake.
ZX (ZXA too) is still unique to this day with its hopeful and melancholic environments and silky smooth gameplay, I want to see eventually a true metroidvania that uses the form changing as the core of the gameplay (Berserk Boy got close but it was on linear levels)
And MM&B is very underrated. I don't consider it to be that difficult compared to the bs other classic MM titles throw constantly, if anything, the game is consistently challenging and that's for the best. This is what MM8 should have been.
The X8 demake is excellent and objectively better than the original in so many ways, mainly the level design which IS the most important part of 2D Megaman in my eyes and is the thing that half of the X games got so wrong, including the original X8.
X gameplay it's at its best when dashing through everything and not when waiting for arbitrary slow mechanics that add nothing to the level to allow you to continue (which is the thing that the bad X games do a lot of) and this is what the original X8 does in half of the levels. Since none of that is in the demake and the annoying levels got some big overhauls it makes for a much better experience right away.
But instead of the unmodified game i'll say loud that the mod that adds Zero and Axl is the true way to play it, finding it can be a bit finicky though.
I want to play Battle Network 6 and Star Force 3 because I know these 2 will end on my favorite games ever lineup, there's no way they don't. (I still need to get through the slog of BN4 and SF2 first)

Special mention to Gravity Circuit, it's excellent and the best X/Zero inspired game to be released in some time. I recommend getting it right now that is on sale.
I would also say Gunvolt but I've yet to play all of them minus the first one.
The weakest forms may be pretty fun when used creatively. Especially when you’re seamless swapping mid boss battle.ZX Advent is the best one for me, because like ZX it has a lot of (even more) pros, but its cons actually make the game a little better to me!
Pros:
- Great stage design and boss fights
- Reasonably compelling story
- Excellent art direction, as always
- Music is also great as per usual
- Top notch Biometal gameplay
- Bigger differences between the two playable characters make both sides worth playing
- Very cool completion bonuses (Model a is hard to get but a really cool reward)
- More intuitive zones (I get what ZX was going for, but the weird pathing didn't actually feel very open at all)
Cons (that make it better):
- Hokey voice acting (Mega Man as a series is known for it, but Advent was really ambitious and there's clips all over the game)
- Silly A-Trans gameplay (none of the forms are really viable, but some like Hedgeshock, Vulturon and Argoyle are really fun to mix things up with)
Genuine Cons (which I forgive):
- No overdrive
- Some really bad A-Trans forms (the ones I listed above are still pretty good, but then there's stuff like Chronoforce and Queenbee which are only good for one gimmicky thing, or Buckfire, Bifrost and Rospark which are just terrible across the board)
- Why, why, WHY would you
?!show Prometheus and Pandora's data sparks in the air after their boss fight, and then NEVER let the player actually use them
- Don't end on a cliffhanger and then cancel the series, guys, come on.
A real fan right here.Mega Man Legends!
Super sweet story thank you ^^ And I LOVE 11.Mega Man Legends is my favorite. The PSP games are a close second, followed by 11.
As someone who lived through the NES era my game selection was limited back then and entirely random. As such I never was lucky enough to play a single NES or SNES Mega Man game during the time when they were new. It wasn't until the PlayStation followed by the GBA that I was able to experience the series.
Very interesting opinions here. I mean I like the slide, i think most people agree on it's utility and fun factor, but mega man 9 showed us less can definitely be more. I get where you're coming from. It's a simple answer, but Megaman 2. Improved on the first one and made it feel so good and clean. Story presented in like two sentences at the beginning, no having to charge shots like crazy, no sliding, no bullshit-ass Protoman showing up to break up the flow of whatever level you're on, just 'go kill this log man and take his leaf power.' Good times.
Didn't exactly mean for fangames or spiritual successors to be talked about here but interesting thoughts regardless, and I'm definitely checking these out, so thank you.ZX, MM&B for SNES and the X8 16-bit demake.

I played from zero 3 to 4 to zx to zx advent in a row and by that point i was sick of playing zero games, so i didn't finish advent, and i feel like my opinions are extremely biased. I can say zx is a fun game though.ZX Advent is the best one for me, because like ZX it has a lot of (even more) pros, but its cons actually make the game a little better to me!

Finally---- my people---- This is exactly why I love zero 1 to pieces. It was frustrating but so fun to A and S rank all the stages, and its the only one where i feel like getting ranks is most enjoyable since the stages are usually only slightly over a minuteMega Man 4 because it introduced the series stable Charge Shot
Zero1 because it's so short yet so fun it feels like it's begging you to speedrun it I remember finishing it in under 2 hours in one sitting it was a blast
I don't really get the hate for battle network, doesn't take away from the games you like, but I respect your opinion. Um, wow. Pretty interesting stuff here. I do love me some buster only challenges. If your claims are true, pretty cool stuff. You should record some footage and upload to YouTube, I'd love to see. (Also you're an absolute maniac for loving rockboard the most. LOVE this answer.)I played every game Buster-only, aside from still not having a way to play Megaman 9 or 10, and X7 or X8.
I beat every Megaman Zero, and it was not a good time when compared to the original series and the X series. I beat Megaman ZX and it was way too butt easy, but also not as fun as the first two.
I once beat Megaman 1-6 in a row, buster-only.
My favorite challenge is the Megaman X 3 Saber Only.
I've beaten X1-3 no powerup, buster only on so many occasions I can't count on one hand.
I like Megaman Legends 2.
I even beat the first Battle Network despite hating how they bastardized the franchise, and what they did to mah boi.
Rockman & Forte is the peak game in the franchise.
And despite all of this
I could play Wily & Light no Rockboard; That's Paradise, literally all day, every day, and never ever get tired of it. I find it that enjoyable.

MM11 its a good gameI personally LOVE Mega Man 11. Don;t get me wrong, I definitely agree when people say Mega Man 2 is the best in the series, but I feel as though it fits more in the past. In MM11, the execution of storytelling though cutscenes are better than the rest of the OG series (the retro-era wasn't very notable to me, and MM8 had laughably bad voice acting). The Double-Gear system adds something unique, instead of simply inviting Proto-Man and Bass (there's no need since Mega can charge and slide just fine), making levels feel easier and making the player more powerful. Not only that, I was getting kinda tired seeing the 8-bit rendition of Mega at the time, so seeing it released ALL the way back in 2018 made me excited to see the series in a fresh new coat of paint. It just feels like an awesome update to a series that has been dormant long since it's hayday back in the 80's, and I love it for that.
