Mega Man Megathread

All the other robots look "ok" (no comment of "Mega boy" tho), then you got this thing

Is like they decided to make the joker with the chin of a 90's cartoon but somehow ended with a Cutsman cosplay on it
You know, like with the first Sonic cartoon (AoStH) and DKC the series I mostly see the fun moments rather than taking them seriously.

On a side note I've tried a bit of Megaman Powered Up and I absolutely love it!

I don't give a darn about people spitting on the cutesy art style because it's literally what the very first game went for on the NES anyway.

Mega Man ZX & Legends Timelines Double Mini-review

Mega Man ZX Timelines #1 coverMega Man Legends Timelines #1 cover

After approximately one million years, I finally got a hold of the latest two issues of the Timelines series and Mega Man X #0 (thanks, Neon Ichiban). I'll review the latter in a different post since it's kind of its own thing.

Out of the two issues, I definitely enjoyed the Legends one a lot more. You can tell the writer is a fan, with the story and dialogue feeling like they could've been taken straight from the games. Unfortunately, the writer is also clearly one of those people, as the plot acknowledges and revolves around the fact that MML is supposed to be the endpoint of the classic Mega Man timeline. I know this connectivity is these comics' entire gimmick, but as a dedicated Timeline™ hater, I'm miffed. Seeing new and improved Mic Fong art after so long is a huge treat, and I hope he participates in more Mega Man projects.

The ZX issue is alright. The story is adapted from the game with no cool or interesting deviations, and the original dialogue is generic superhero comic-book fare. Also, the first page claims that the story takes place in 25XX, which is a blatant conjecture and inconsistent with the Zero issue, which takes place in 22XX. This means that this issue takes place 300 years after the Zero issue, not 200 years like in canon. The artwork exists.

And with this, I've read every currently available issue of the Timelines series. As expected of an anthology, the quality was all over the place, ranging from good (Classic, Legends) to mediocre (X, ZX) to just plain bad (Zero). I'm very cautiously optimistic about the future of the series, provided Udon starts shipping issues on time.

Here's Pandora being out of character, and MegaMan and Tron holding hands.

Pandora looking far more emotional than she's supposed to beMegaMan and Tron grabbing a Met at the same time in the heat of battle, and Tron being embarrassed about this.

I've read that robots in Legends are able to get children...

HOW?

I'm serious about how it's theoretically possible to do something as complex as biological replication of DNA for carbon based lifeforms.

Perhaps they're silicon based lifeforms or it's just yet another video game magic thing.

No

Carbons are creations of humans that evolved just like them. They are the close thing to humans since they are gone by the time Legends even started.

The Megamans creator was the last one, and died after he decided to visit earth and give the carbons his wisdom (dont ask, is one of those "i start to die if i leave my house" plot)

Megaman and his sisters (and Megaman Juno) are full robots that looks like humans

This makes sense in lore, Juno and Trigger are mean for "combat" while the sisters acts more like admins/operators, but the laters can use armor too if forced to fight like the final boss of 2

All females we see in legends, other than Trigger sisters, are carbons. So they can have childrens like humans

Is just that Roll and Tron fell in love with a robot boy "too well made to be close as a human" as a reference to the classic and X creation porpuse (the robot boy part, not the fall in love part.... thats a can of worms with the classic in mind)

Why are we questioning robot reproduction in the franchise where robots bleed, get sick with robot COVID, and have DNA?

More importantly, why do we care about how robot reproduction works in the franchise for children?

Most "children franchises" leave up to a lot to talk about and theorize. Just look at Kirby.

Yeah, no. Just because Kirby exists doesn't change the fact that most kid franchises aren't meant to be overanalyzed by adult fans.

Anyway, always remember that the answer to any question about Mega Man is "because Capcom doesn't care."

I do agree that Capcom cut corners when it's about lore of many of their franchises, and plenty of them (even plot-based ones) suffer from it. I started to realize that in Ace Attorney right after I played 1-5 (which was an extra case exclusive for DS at the times, not present in the GBA one) and then reached 2-3, just to name one.

The Roboenza story was quite interesting because it could be a prototype for the Maverick virus we'd see later in the franchise's chronology.

Blood can be oil though (which is basically a machine's blood in a way).

DNA synthesis is also a serious subject in bioengineering and we can see the evolution between robots, reploids and carbons like how Homo Erectus became Homo Sapiens.

More importantly, why do we care about how robot reproduction works in the franchise for children?
Pokémon has the daycare center that clearly tells that they need a male and female to get an offspring (except for specific cases with genderless ones with Ditto).

Not to go too much into details obviously it's not because something is aimed at kids that they aren't allowed to show a pregnant woman or some creature that has laid eggs.

But I'm digressing and I still think that being able to create an entirely artificial species that can do the same thing as living beings is a highly advanced level of science so their existence implies how humans have managed to accomplish such thing.

Why are you being confrontational about it? We're free to do healthy debates without having that whole "it's just a kid's show don't overthink it".

The Hobbit was basically Tolkien's bedtime story in written form yet Middle Earth is one of the most extensive fictional universe to ever exist.
Post automatically merged:

Addendum: even if a franchise is "aimed at kids" that doesn't prevent its creators from making a consistent story with some implied things and an actual subtext (that would be seen once some grow up).

Being "for kids" shouldn't mean they shouldn't care about the quality and honestly I'd also largely take people overthinking something than stopping to think altogether.

Finally someone with common sense.

cause it's fun to talk about.
Also, true that. It's always fun to talk and theorize about things we like with other people who also do.
However, it's important to not become crazy because of it. It's just a funny game franchise, is not that big of a deal.

I just have my own headcanons for things, and if others want to talk about their own, then hell yeah
For me the Carbons are basically humans who are able to do things only robots could do, like change their whole bodies (for example, the youngest of the Bonne brothers that I forgot the name of, he's literally a Mettaur with arms and legs lmao)
I mean, their Japanese name literally means "people", Carbons is just the localized one, such as "Irregulars" being called "Mavericks".

I'd rather think of it as Videogame magic because my brain hurts if I think about it too much XDD

Carbons "did" got a complete lore in legends. They are just created creatures that evolved like humans, and the actual humans alive in space decided to go "we made a mistake" then created robots with the mission to clean the planet after their "overpopulation" so humans can return to earth again

The only question mark that Capcom decided to not explain is if the "Noa's Ark ending" for the humans was because of the unreleased ending of ZX3 or if it was something natural that lead into the humans to go in space and create the carbons

Also, they never stated what makes carbons and humans different

Well, we can basically assume it's like that one quote:
"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." ~ Arthur C. Clark

Speaking of the lore of Mega Man, I noticed a little something something when I played Legends 1. Here's a screenshot from Youtube:

And here's Ra Moon:

Now, why the heck is Ra Moon's eyeball on the world ending Eden weapon 10,000 years in the future...

True, there’s even souls and ghosts, and Rock definitely developed his own consciousness prior to X being made.
More importantly, why do we care about how robot reproduction works in the franchise for children?
True, it’s a bit silly getting hung up over pedantic headcanons. At the end of the day it’s still a lighthearted platforming franchise about friendship and peace (and wily being a REALLY bad dad)

I headcanon that Eden is ran by a supercomputer that is none other than a scavenged, repurposed Ra Moon, and the final boss of the cancelled Legends 3 would've been none other than Ra Moon himself.

Just to make it clear, nothing that i said about the Megaman lore in general is headcanon

Unless i said is my take of what could be or mean of something, everything is official in lore of the games

I thought that carbons specifically were like... naturally adept to become cyborgs? like... their bodies are interchangeable with machines somehow? not sure how that works exactly but I love the idea. by the time of ZX, humans are basically all cyborgs, and reploids are given the limitations of biological life... it's not a stretch that the next species to inherit the earth are artificial machine people.

Problem is.... nothing in Legends really comes from the past games. Only that the title "Megaman" is a thing

After ZX everything was lost thanks to a flood with very little information (information got lost, mind you) that almost got all humans killed and where forced to go to space (i call it the "Noa's Ark ending for said reason)

This is why at the start of legends (and legends 2) you can see a lot of water with little earth for carbos to live in and also why Roll team are treasure hunters (diggers) of dungeons full of "lost technology" and those boring ass killing robots

For the bonus, in the second game you can find relics from past games too in one of the sidequest (but those are optional stuff)

Carbos where created kinda to "test" if the planet was able to let humans live in it again

But then, Carbos become the next "humans" and the humans didnt liked it
