Mega Man Megathread

It's more or less a mario kart clone game yes, also megamans car from it is going to be in crossworld soon, which I'm pretty excited for.

I do love Bass... he is a pretty fun character. It's funny how the Manga interpreted him as a borderline feral animal. It's a shame he came in so late in the series. The battle and chase music is great... but I kind of wish his theme had a like... official extended version at some point.

btw, As far as grinding for screws... there are a few parts that are able to be found in stages, and also you can rush search for massive bolts in certain areas. I think the most famous one is below the wily portrait in shademans stage.

also, it's a very silly workaround, but if you enter a password that shows you've beat the clown miniboss and nothing else... you skip the intro and have all 8 stages ready, basically turning 7 into a traditional formula game.

I need to do the Soccer spin-off someday as well.

I'm still confused about one thing: was Bass aware he was a Wily robot before he got "fixed"? I feel like he recovered his memory so that he became an antagonist.

Some people consider that MM9's screws being collectible in set parts of a level than a money was the better choice.

I don't know if grinding is a good thing for an arcade platformer like Megaman but it's making it fairer for lives and other bonuses.

I think MM7 is easily one of the most challenging games in the series.

By the way I love the Ghosts 'n Goblins easter egg in Shademan's level. On the other hand I hate the Quickman-like laser section in Turboman's level (which is oddly fitting since both share the same theme).

Next time I play MM7 I'll try that even if it may break the progression and difficulty balance.

On a side note: why the hell is the last boss so hard in MM7?

No wonders why Megaman was absolutely pissed off and wanted to end Wily for good.

But I've discovered it was a liberty taken from the localiser (I knew it was quite out of character for our beloved blue robot to straight up say that):

Although I think that it could've been the premises of the Reploids that were based off the X model of Megaman.

This one is apparently harder than usual. You play it the classic way?

I am confused about why they only have 4 Robot Masters available in the first half of the game, I always assumed that having 8 levels made playthroughs more varied.

As for my next games I'll probably tackle 7 and 8 right next

My marathon is going well (maybe I'll stop after I'm done with the Classic games and the first X trilogy)

My hot Mega Man take of the day is that Bass' theme in Mega Man Battle & Chase is better than his usual theme.
Reminds me of how much I love capcom's soundtracks from this era.

I'm sorry but how are X4 and X5 compared to the rest?

I really need to find a chart of the Megaman games per consoles because I heard that X3 was on the PSX as well.

I just got this chart

Speaking of soundtracks this really sounds like a Street Fighter III the New Generation

Idk but this willy machine is very sick

Virgins want Zero in Smash.

Gigachads want Sigma.

(I'm a virgin)
Protoman could've been an Echo fighter.

I mean, he's literally a clone in-universe.

Or at least give Megaman a Protoman and Bass skin...

Isn't it too bad that they couldn't make one of each Megaman as a skin even if it's still Classic for Smash Ult? I kinda blame Capcom (or maybe a lack of time).

X4 is considered one of the best of the fr

I just got this chart

X3 is on PSX and I think saturn, but it plays basically the same as the snes version with animated cutscenes instead of splash screens for bosses.

X4 is considered one of the best games of the whole series, and I agree, though it also is infamous for it's pretty bad voice acting in the English version.

X5 is considered very good despite some weird design decisions. I never had an issue with it, but a replay with a balance patch one day may be a fun idea.

X6 is not well regarded due to some even more baffling decisions. some call it the worst, and it can be pretty bad, but it's redeemable. there are story related reasons too, but we will burn that bridge when we get to it. I think the improvement patches are mandatory on replays, and they elevate it to a solid entry in the series rather than one of the worst.

4 5 and 6 kinda act as their own trilogy, they run all play very similarly, but different to the SNES games. X4 will take some getting used to, especially how dashes and dash jumping works.

Awesome track. I can hear some similarities to SF3 style now that you mention it, but I do think mm8 has a much better soundtrack overall. SF3 was generally very forgettable.

Pretty much what I was going to say! :)
X4 is pure awesomeness, and X5 continued the same gameplay with some changes.

My headphones when I grind zenny in Mega Man Legends 1 and 2 for the Shining Laser:

Is Bass basically a sorta ancestor to Zero?

Kinda like Megaman to X.

We honestly have no idea. Classic -> X probably has the most mysteries on the timeline.
We get the smallest and perhaps only snippet of information in one of the spinoffs I recommended, but I won't say what, which or where unless you want.

@LightningmanEXE

Please spoiler tag it for me, I'm interested myself.

Spoilers for X4 AND X5, and the yet to be played megaman classic games
as well as some behinds the scenes explanations on things based on series documents.

This is probably the most lore we have on the connection outside of Doctor light making X.

I think that Capcom wanted to tell it happened a century after but didn't think too far into it.

I'm even wondering what happened to the original Megaman during the time X was first turned on.

Maybe we can assume that he's either dead or buried deep under... The MMX series doesn't bother too much aside from showing Light as a holographic image since he's no longer alive.

I haven't played Battle Chip Challenger yet, but from what little I've seen, it looks really good.

it's insane to me how close it is to an idle rpg before that was even a thing.
I personally like it for what it is, but also can't deny it's a bit of an asset dump.
worth a try, if you dislike it there is also a strategy mod that makes it harder, but gives you control of the random elements within combat.

Interesting, I actually have it on my to-do list since I hope to finish BN 3 and other pending games that I'm about to complete first.

Capcom probably won't ever answer this but maybe X has been built with parts of Megaman (from the Classic) and Zero is probably a newer version built upon Bass as the main template.

Are Robots and Reploids supposed to live for centuries? Also why aren't Robot Masters and Megaman considered as Reploids despite that the later has proven to have some form of sentience?

Or maybe Megaman could form some but X is the one fully exploiting his sentience.

I'm probably overthinking a series about a robot shooting lemons against evil robots...

nah, you aren't. if it weren't cool we wouldn't be here.

He turned into Quint and created a time paradox. Just kidding. He actually lived out the remainder of his years as a retired dentist. Not kidding. (At least, that's what I like to believe)

But you know what? A part of me likes to think that the original Mega Man IS X.

I've found and installed the Wiiware versions of Megaman 9 and 10 (with the DLC .wad thankfully).

Were those DLCs included by default in the Legacy Collection versions of those games?

I wish Konami made the same efforts to port their Rebirth games to modern hardware the same way MM9 and MM10 are no longer in Wiiware prison.

But you know what? A part of me likes to think that the original Mega Man IS X.
Same.
