Same. I mean, we all know deep inside MM4 is the best one.I think mega man 2 is the worst one of the original trilogy, heck, even the nes games

Why?^In stark contrast, I think Mega Man 4 is the worst classic game. Meggles 1 — the original NES game — is my favourite by a long shot.
I always felt the levels were too long with too many minibosses, and found the robot masters really tedious to fight (especially in the final boss rush). I don’t have any particular affection for any of the weapons or levels, either, though the music is still very good. Why?

MM1 is awesome! Makes sense if it’s his favorite. But yeah I’m curious too.I meant why is MM1 your favorite?
I think it's actually the easiest one (yellow devil aside)I meant "Why is MM1 your favorite?"

MY BAD!!!! I really like the game's design – all the levels are super fun to go through and really hard, so there's a big incentive to learn the stage layouts and tactically take out enemies as you progress. Unlike a lot of later NES Mega Man games, it's never just moving forward and shooting – you have to make on-the-fly decisions about where you're going, where you're shooting, and why, and I find that really rewarding. The Yellow Devil is a fucker (though I have beaten him without the pause glitchI meant "Why is MM1 your favorite?"
You are so cool for saying all this. I wanna hug all mm1 fans.MY BAD!!!! The Yellow Devil is a fucker (though I have beaten him without the pause glitch) and the Magnet Beam thing is really dumb, but I still have a lot of fun playing the game.
Also, and this is a minor thing, but I just really love how the entire game is clearly themed around construction. All the levels are job sites, and all the robot masters are actual utility machines for laying brick, incinerating material, demolition, etc. – I find that more interesting than just "THIS ONE'S THE WATER GUY!!!!" or "THIS ONE'S THE TIME GUY!!!" (They kind of ruined this in Powered Up, and I don't like that version too much.) It's a very unique theme for a video game, especially at that time, but it really makes the game stand out.
I don't really think MM1 is the best one – MM3 is probably what I'd recommend most – but it is the one I go back to the most, and I love it.
Nvm checked the achievement list again and no thanksIm gonna try to master the Mega Man 4 RetroAchievements set
I wouldn't mind 2 castles if only the games would let you save between them.Megaman 1 is one of my favorites. I think its like the perfect length for a megaman game, and not too many collectibles. I'm not the biggest fan of the shift to each game having 2 castles in the later NES games.
I don't want to watch the video because it looks like clickbait to me. TL;DW, please?
They really fucked up when they made Megaman X2, then.I remember reading somewhere that Capcom used to have a so-called "5% rule", where they would only make sequels better by 5 percent. I don't know if it's actually true, but if it is, it would explain a lot.
I actually have a general theory as to why games from the 80s to mid 90s are hard at all.Another interesting Japanese article about Mega Man:
Is the image that "Rockman is difficult" really correct?
As you can probably tell from the title, the author examines Mega Man's actual difficulty, as well as the reasons the games are perceived as being hard.
No TLDW cuz it’s just random factoids. Not something you’ll gain much from if you’re comfortable with your knowledge. I just thought this guy had some cool vids.I don't want to watch the video because it looks like clickbait to me. TL;DW, please?
Wdym? They really fucked up when they made Megaman X2, then.
Games were hard back then because they would only last a hour or so, otherwise.I actually have a general theory as to why games from the 80s to mid 90s are hard at all.
Platformers from this particular era, AKA castlevania, ninja gaiden and of course Megaman, wanted to introduce a very subtle element of puzzle solving. Where you bypass an enemy not because of skill, but because of knowledge and understanding! Through this, you create a satisfying perceived sense of accomplishment and progression without necessarily requiring a high degree of skill. Thus making the experience more open to others.
This eww vaguely dropped in the late 90s in favor of more action oriented stage designed. The “old” mentality can seem slow and obtuse especially if you just can’t figure out enemy patterns. I believe metal slug (a phenomenal franchise) might be one of the first game platformer series that’s purely skill based and has little elements of puzzle solving.
What do you mean? They really fucked up when they made Megaman X2, then.
Which I appreciateWdym?
