I was talking in the Mega Man Mega Thread with my ummmm... friend (?), forum partner (?) @Ikagura (i don't know what do you think about me but simply calling you "user" sounded pretty dry to me) about the changes of the Mega Man/Rockman logo and a few oddities.
To sumarize, in a chinese-exclusive PC compilation of the 6 NES MM games, the logos used for Mega Man 3-6 use the western Mega Man logo font but the "Mega" is changed for Rock and looks somewhat weird (also scraps the subtitles that the games use)

In contrast to the actual japanese logo

Also, Capcom used in the western logos highly inconsistent ones and were always changed from a game to other and not being even the actual logo in-game (with the sole exception being MM1).

At least, they decided for a consistent one starting from 5 and World 1/Dr. Wily's Revenge and lasted until X3

From 8 onboard, the Mega Man games use the japanese ones but "Megamanized"

Exceptions occurs, of course, like the Mega Man Legends/Rockman Dash ones

I know that this looks like a Mega Man history class lol but the point are these
logo changes and oddities that our loved game franchises of choice have or had. Come on, i think that you all know cases like this, Ikagura quoted Resident Evil in example.

I'll just add my own quote for RE

This has always been a dilemma with Japanese franchises getting a different name and/or logo for the west.

Biohazard/Resident Evil is another Capcom franchise that kept the two names (unlike Square Enix going back to Dragon Quest for all regions starting from 8) and they unified their logos with the Japanese one since Code Veronica (I think)

I almost prefer RE2 and RE3 on the PSX having wildly different looking logos before every modern entries since VII getting the same font and color code...

In Europe they chose the safer end with the same font and cover (which is superior imo yet I prefer the US logo)

Addendum: so I see why they stopped doing it post-Nemesis

The Megaman series is no stranger to weird logo choices/changes. Here's X1-X3 with logo designs reminiscent of X4/X5, from the X Collection for PS2/GameCube

i guess that Capcom wanted to modernize the logos, the in-game logos use them too?

I like how the Zelda franchise kept a good consistency post-NES (although I prefer some of the Japanese ones such as The Minish Cap showing the aforementioned cap or ALTTP having that magnificent golden coating)

The Ys franchise also kept a big consistency about the logo since the very first game

On the other hand Kirby got consistent pretty recently with the japanese releases

Post automatically merged:

Pokémon in the West started to give a more unique logo subtitle since HGSS (all previous used the same font)

While Japan went all out since the first entry.

I'm more surprised by how Mega Man's box art evolved. It went from incomprehensible realism to looking kinda like an early superhero to 80s american animation. It's like the American team gradually realized this isn't a very serious series or one that targets an older audience.

Mega Man 6, World 5 & X2 boxarts are like the very best art that the american artists produced

Also congratulations for reaching level 4

They definetly look great, and the games are great too!
Also, thank you!
Europe had its own evolution, using the NA logos but with different (and cooler) boxarts

4, 5 and World 2 and 3 (6 was never released on PAL regions officially until rereleases like the Legacy collection) use the NA art Mega Man is changed to make him more reminiscent of its japanese himself

Personally i dig more the european boxarts because of the change.
Also other games use the same unchanged art from the NA and sometimes the art is different like the used for Mega Man 8.

How in the hell do you go from this:

To this:

No soul, no dignity — just text on a screen.

I also don't appreciate the switch from dark and midnight colors to that bright shit.

That tracks. This was around the time when they were trying to reboot the X series w/ the PSP remake, which obviously didn't work out, and so this is all we'll likely see of the timeline where it worked out in the end.

Sad, because Maverick Hunter X is a legit solid remake

I'm still convinced the US Mega Man 1 box art is ripped off the 1983 movie Stryker. His weird head lean is even the same

I don't know what makes it funnier.

The fact that someone brought a knife to a gunfight.

The non-existent trigger discipline displayed by the gunner.

The archer about to nail his nuts to a tree.

Or the "We had to call it this because the other word was already copyrighted" name.

10/10 — would tear apart again xD

Okay, the og European boxard looks sick. How have I not seen it until now? 2 and 3 are weird in their own ways and I don't know why they edited the rest to look more like Japanese Mega Man, it's interesting.

I guess because of keeping consistence with the Mega Man 3 boxart
