Hot takes

Oh, you dweebs are back in your cartoon swamp, HERE'S ONE FOR YA.

I thought the first season of Smiling Friends was pretty much immaculate, but the over-reliance on "real-talk" jokes ruined a HUGE part of the second season to me, even though that season probably had my favorite episode, but the jokes fell flat way more often.

OK KO >> Steven Universe (I still like Steven U)
I never finished OK KO but I hear it sort of lost steam pretty early on and had an identity crisis? I really liked the cute artstyle though.
Never seen SU, but I'd probably like it more now than at the age when it was current. My brother was a pretty big fan, iirc.

sucks that the show ended so quickly. there were lots of good references to video games, anime, movies and cartoon. and some hot ass babes in the show. red action is one of my favorites.

You're not exactly selling it to me with this.. ::eek Is it really that much?

I explained why I hated it if you're curious
I'll just get around to watching it myself. "I don't remember much and as far as I remember everything was generic" isn't a lot to latch onto.

Asking the question of "Why did Netflix and Dreamworks make this while Cartoon Network cancelled Infinity Train" is also not a great closer. They're diff companies with diff business models making diff things with diff appeal.

the people in charge are the ones who bully the nerds and otakus and think that if something is animated it can not be deep or mature.
i would like to introduce those people to evangelion, apocalypse zero, genocyber, mad bull 34, ghost in the shell and cowboy bebop. i don't think that they have ever actually seen a cartoon before ever in their lives.
There's a lot to be said about how western culture doesn't appreciate adult animation but I love using something like Genocyber as an example of deep or mature animation. It's fun, it's brutal, but it's far from deep or mature beyond surface aesthetics. To be fair, we've been getting more and more adult animation over the years beyond what Adult Swim has on offer. "Love, Death and Robots", The Midnight Gospel, Invincible, Scavenger's Reign etc etc. If we open it up to stop motion stuff like Shivering Truth and Mad God have made some waves too. Nevermind the fact that western studios like Netflix have started greenlighting Japanese animated projects as the market grows more and more in the west.

There's obviously still a lot of ground that needs to be covered, but its clear that the space is becoming more respected, and the market has shown itself to be there in enough of a capacity for studios to want to fund projects.

Actually, why the hell are we bringing up Mad Bull 34 in reference to a show that is literally rated Y7? Not gonna lie this comment just feels like projection to me.

No man, I loved it
I loved the animation, it was genuinely funny, the one modern show alongside steven u that used game references without em being hamfisted (chip damage is a genius superhero name)

As for the identity crisis bit, I think you're referring to the ending getting more serialized suddenly, yeah thats because the show ended early su they rushed the finale; it's a real shame but at least it ended
And hey unlike steven universe it didnt leave a ton of characters in the dust

Thanks for the rundown.
I'll probably give it another shot whenever I have the time then. I suck at bingewatching and watching shows in general, so I'll come back to you in 14 years with my thougts.

home movies had a similar problem. the first season had a lot of improve stuff that was animated over and the other 3 seasons were more scripted. most people liked the first season more than the others.

So I've heard. I've only seen the first season and I loved it. Only seen snippets of the rest but it seems okay, but definitely different, I like the wobbly artstyle of the first season way more, too.

oh, they had their own power rangers too.
it's been a long time since i saw the show. the main thing i remember is that nearly every woman had some extra thicc thighs and rear end to match.

I do remembetr the plot, what I mean is the characters and how the story goes were boring af; the story's basically there was an apocalypse that turned the animals into giants and intelligent anthos and the main chara is like a hybrid that can turn into a giant and theres a faction of humans who wanna get rid of the intelligent furries

I know one was CN one is HB, it wasn't a real question, more like of a "Why whyyyy!!?? DX"
Thugh if you wanna compare em they Do have the same demographic in mind more or less

the whole series is on youtube for free. a lot of people put it on for background noise or when they are sleeping. it's a very chilled out show.

In a previous life I would've shared your coomer sentiments.
Though it is a distinguishing style choice throughout the show, for sure. Male characters are more top-heavy, while female characters tend to be more bottom-heavy. A sort of hyper-stylization of stereotypical proportions for humans in general.

The world is screwed, but it's always screwed and in a thousand years will face another civilizational collapse after this one, like we did a millenia ago and a millenia before that, history repeats so much because people never learn and constantly repeat the same mistakes.

i hadn't thought of that. a perfect description of the characters.

If nothing matters, then that means everything matters, too. Put your grasses on and live your life to the fullest!

I personally can't really see how these would be considered hot moreso than just cool, unless you were like 13 when it aired. The style in general is fantastic though, I love how simple and stylized it is, and lineart is so cool, I really like how fuzzy it is. One of the best looking cartoons of the 2010s.

I dont think it's hot, but it is funny how every girl has agiant ass
Yeah the style is really cool, so are the fights!
And everyone has rockman-style arm cannons! it's really charming

Btw there's a furry episode where they turn into anthros and then they meet a reverse-furry in a human suit

you should check out some fan art. ok ko aired on cable tv so there were limits on what they could show. i think it was implied that enid and red action might have had a thing for one another. and lee left out the best example: enid's mom.

i check out the fan art every once in a while. that probably overwrote my main memory of the show.

I like how they change between ball-hands and finger-hands. Reminds me of a N64 game.

No they become canon at the end; same for venomous and boxman (though it's only implied), joff and nick army also become canon

I'd have liked to see more of voxman...
I like weird couples

yeah, they take advantage of being a cartoon. helps it move high up on the quality scale.

Thanks, but I'm really not interested in looking up lewd fanart of an old cartoon lol ?
