My only counterpoint isn't even against your argument. I just wish releasing a new remaster or a remake didn't mean they would also de-list older versions that had still been available previously. It means they are indirectly encouraging piracy at that point.

I am for remasters/remakes, especially for games I didn't have a chance to play back in the day.
Yes fair point, as an example I am still rather salty about the GTA Definitive Edition situation.
Ok the definitive version is absolutely the weaker pick but certainly does not excuse the delisiting of the originals.
Rockstar should be proud of their original works and let them be, its all about options for the consumers too.

There are probably people out there that want to play the Definitive versions for various QOL reasons and also swap to the OG's whether that be for certain atmosphere, charm e.t.c.

Like when you tried to search Mario RPG in google images 5 years ago

It makes everything a ridiculous pain in the ass to find anything about the original this way, and the reason I don't really like the Ninja Gaiden reboot, albeit a somewhat immature grudge.

I didn't even think about that. If the new version were to dominate search results, you'd almost have to play the original and take your own screengrabs or record your own footage if you needed a reference.

Fun fact; you do! ::angrygenjin

I would think that, with as popular as it is, Final Fantasy VII would be a culturally-relevant enough title to inspire various imagery regarding it's main characters and/or key plot points, but nay; most every potential search is met with frustration, or results tied to the main franchise in only the most estranged manner.

And this has been a problem before the remake was even announced

Fun Fact!

In the Google search results, if you select "tools," "any time," and then "custom range," you can set the "To" date to before [in this case, the Mario RPG and/or FFVII remakes] and leave the "From" date blank (if you want)..

And voila! You can find what you're actually looking for!

I'm still salty about Rockstar delisting the Free PC Version of GTA 1. It used to be on their website for quite a long time way back when. That was how I was able to get it to work on my sisters IBM Thinkpad back during the time when I had no consoles and only had access to PC's.

Thanks for sharing your story on that, I never knew that was even a thing on there website. kinda neat little nod.
I had to grab a copy of GTA 3 on Archive.org, I just prefer the look of it more as appose to the Definitive. So silly I had to do that, would have gladly paid on Steam when it was available, missed the window.

This will work as well (I didn't know you could do this)

Thanks, the sentiment is there but I must correct you;
No, I can't
The relevancy of these specific graphics was fairly low even during the early 2000s when I had intended to download them; I know if my 15 year old self couldn't find it (back when my mind worked better) then it's a lost cause; I was very,  very good at finding what I wanted on the internet.

Fair enough..
I guess what I was saying was assuming that the thing existed before..
This sort of thing was great for searching for anything related to pre-Disney Star Wars..

My next Hot Take:

Remakes have a place.

-Does not detract from the original as those are always there at your disposal anyway to switch between when desired, so the 'nostalgia goggles on' version can be revisited when the mood suits, same can apply for a remake version. it's not like the remakes are trying to replace (show me in writing where this is true/factual) modern changes need to be made somehow, which brings me to my next point:

-Remakes can act like a companion piece along side the original, or a secondary, alternative way to experience a title, perhaps via quality of life, new additions etc. (for example RE2 and RE2 Remake, both have strengths and weaknesses, still decent in their own right)

Note: This does not mean EVERY SINGLE remake is successful, but in my opinion, in most cases they have delivered in some way or another as per above.

(Silent Hill 2 Remake is good. also I can still play the original, I like them both)
Having the original given alongside is a great thing.

Paradoxically some games got their original released more often than their remake (like Metroid Zero Mission being re-released less times than NES Metroid).

zero mission also included the original metroid in its entirety as an unlockable if I'm not mistaken

It was one of the best things to do, big shame Samus Returns never got to include Metroid II Return of Samus.
Post automatically merged:

The best Pokémon games are the ones where you're embodying one.

I don't mind the monster collecting, trainer battling kind of game but outside of PokeDex entries and lore bits they have little to no personality beyond "super powered beings that can befriend humans". Mystery Dungeon and other spin-offs allowing them to talk and interact more than the mainline games really made them shine as characters. Human NPCs outside of Gym and Team Leaders aren't that interesting either... At least even minor NPCs in PMD have their quirk according to their species.

If you are offering a service at a given rate and someone says no thanks, you automatically dropping the rate by 25% doesn't make your service look more inviting or make you look like a good guy. It makes you look like you were trying to fuck somebody into paying more than what you think your service is actually worth.

You people love sugar too much don't you??

Sugar and sweet taste is way too common and generally liked but i find sweets that are all sugar a little yucky

I prefer more balanced sugar not too little and not overpowering other components of the sweet or food , btw Dark Chocolate RULES

Ninja Gaiden 4's "Dumbing down" was good, since many people unable to enjoy the game for past games' diffuclty (And the games themselves griefing them for wanting to play Easy) now can get the chance to play them, anyone that whines about the game not being hard enough instead of proper complains (Linear level design, Way too much cutscenes between menus, watered down weapon choices...) is simply Gatekeeping the series for "Hardcore" fans

"be yourself" is a very toxic piece of advice, bc it promoted stagnation
Xdqwerty can you once not give a horrible take regarding human personality/mental health? FOR ONCE?

Have you noticed how your understanding and opinions regarding this subject seem to spill to your own personality/mental health???

If you aren't going to be yourself then who are you going to be? Me? Ikagura?? Lol no.......you don't have to act like a dumbass or douchebag to be "yourself" or 100% do what you do at home or alone but for the most part being really what you are

Hope you get the idea ::chocobo-dance
