Hot takes

Hot Take for me I am not a fan of RE7 and Village I am not a fan of first person and the looks and I am not big fan of zombie or enemy they have.

Just finished The Evil Within 1 on PC, and it was honestly a great game, i don't get why there's people that hate it or call it jank, didn't felt to me that way chief.
Evil Within 1 did have jank in the beginning no matter which version you were playing, but the 360 version got it the worst on consoles before the patch updates . The game was prone to crashing a lot on PC, and even sometimes on PS4 and XONE. After the big patch update, and the update to remove the letter boxing, the game ran and performed much better.

I like the game, but it is just RE4 again combined with The Cell, Saw, Inception, and A Nightmare on Elm Street. Though I do prefer both Evil Within games over RE4-RE8. Especially Evil Within 2.

RE7 I find really overrated, and it's only barely better than RE6, RE0, and CV. Village while better, is just RE4 in Romania, with werewolves, and other classic gothic horror monsters and creatures. Then RE4R eventually came out making Village even more pointless to go back and play. RE4R you can even play in first person via the VR updates for PS4/PS5 and Steam/PC, or with the fan mod that was done exactly like the PC versions of RE2R & RE3R.

Unlike Yahtzee, i really don't have a problem with most over the shoulder games. I don't mind the more original style camera angles or not over the shoulder cameras, buddy your mouth will just stick with indie or AA if you don't want those. Even then, the games on cheaper side do this sometimes for whatever reason or artistic reason. You're pretty much just shouting at a storm where a majority of the AAA are not going to listen nor care.

That said, not all these over the shoulder games blend together. Especially when they have clearly different art styles and art designs. Some share realism, but that's not every single one.

I liked Batman Arkham because shoulder view was for detective mode whereas in combat the camera zoomed out for a better view. GTA IV also did that when you were aiming while keeping the classic GTA style camera during normal gameplay.

I do prefer top down camera and "above the head" like Max Payne or Ocarina of Time rather than the shoulder view but I think that works for claustrophobic horror game like RE4 and Dead Space the best.

Tl;Dr : dynamic camera that adapts to the gameplay and player ability will always be the best option.
