Hot takes

Nietzsche has done irreversible damage to pop culture and young people.

Nihilism is overrated and they clearly have misunderstood the point.

PS: Same with Freud (he was a hack).
To add to this, alot of psychiatry is just you letting out your stress, worries and regrets to a third party, we used to do that to priests or ministers, basically modern psychiatry imo is just another way to scam people. (and yes i went to one before, multiple times, noticed exactly how foolish it was after a few visits)

I've never seen the interest in video game consoles doing other things than playing games.

Sure, the Dual Screen/DS Lite having a Browser via an app and peripheral was nice in 2004-2006 because the iPhone was basically new and that you wouldn't give a kid a smartphone (times have changed) yet in the 2020's I'm pretty fine with using a video game console for its primary function and having a dedicated Blu-Ray player and a phone/tablet for browsing and youtube.

People miss the MiiVerse but let's be honest: it was a janky social network and outside of memes and stupid posts like "I wish Squids were real" this had barely any relevance. They could've kept the notes for Mario Maker but that's just it.

Speaking of which a Social Network aimed at kids is a red flag... no, a Red Banner for many reasons.

If you want a real red flag, there's now kids dating sites, how those haven't been shut down is beyond me.

You referring Roblox? They haven't been shut down yet, but people are still not happy about this. The guy in charge and some of those guys, he has acting as "security" have clear issues and should not be around any kids at all. Nor should they have them.

Vinyl records (the ones made today) do not sound better or warmer, it's just a fetish/privilege hobby. If you want to own a copy of an album, go for the CD if audio quality is what you want.

or bluray if you can find it.

no, a tinder like app is being made for teenagers; at least from what i saw for the title of a video on youtube one day. i did not feel comfortable enough to even hover over it to read the full title.

Still a bad idea either way. I think the only reason this app you're talking about is not taking as much heat is because Roblox is taking all the heat. This is disturbing either way, and the people with these ideas or thinking there's nothing wrong with them are morally compromised, or just like the fucked up people they're trying to cater towards or whoever.

yes, i agree immensely. kids and teens should interact face to face. it's more natural and a much better way to develop into a normal functioning adult.
a lot of the people who are okay with this are the ones who use apps like tinder and other ones like it, and they are mentally broken people. they have no morals or standards; they just want unrestrained hedonism and no consequences for their actions.
i never saw the appeal of that game. it always looked like a knockoff of legos. i have real legos to play with if i want to, and i have minecraft as well, which is virtual legos with water and lava.

Vinyl are "class and chic" and there's an objective difference in how they sound (being analogic) vs a digital Compact Disc (although you'll need a good Hi-Fi setup or headphones to be able to clearly hear the difference).

But I do agree it's a privilege one like collecting Laserdiscs or having sealed video games for the sake of having them in display.

Compact Discs nowadays are supposed to be better than the 90's ones in term of audio quality. Vinyls were better than the early CDs like how some early DVDs weren't that great compared to a VHS of the same epoch.

Having an app to be able to talk to classmates outside of school or a social network (FB or Twitter) was fine on paper until there were dramas and bullying through it so I don't think that letting teens use that kind of app would be good for their self image and would have people abusing the system behind those apps just to stalk people.

Original language supremacy is absurd; dubs were invented for a reason.
Eh, original language is sometimes better because they are the intended way of how characters would sound like.

The issue with dubs aren't the dubs themselves but localisers messing up the dialogues and characters.

The infamous jelly filled doughnuts from Pokémon were the first of a long series of issues in that era.

i did some checking on this one time. it technically is correct; in a very weird way. rice balls are quite similar to doughnuts, despite the different main ingredient. they are meant to be a quick, cheap snack to eat on the go and both of them can have whatever kind of filling that you want in them.
it's just considered so nonsensical because most people wouldn't know how rice balls are made in japan, especially back then; and would be familiar with the process, which is take some short grain rice, cook it, mold it into a triangular shape using water and salt, put the little seaweed wrap on it and stick it in the fridge for a few hours. that's just the basic steps. you eat these almost like a popsicle almost, usually cold or room temperature if you want.
doughnuts are usually eaten hot or warm, similar to how rice is usually eaten here in america; hot and right out of the pot.
now obviously, these 2 things don't look alike or are made in the same way, but the end result is some what similar. so, the poor dastard who had to do the translation for the show probably had to do their best when 4kids was on their "other countries don't exist" thing back in the early 2000's amd try to call it something other than a rice ball.
it failed spectacularly, but they tried.
and then later, this got even worse because 4kids would eventually go in and actually edit scenes to change some foods into an american kind of food that kids would be familiar with. i remember seeing a comparison bit in a rebeltaxi video where a giant rice ball was edited out and replace with a big ass subway like sandwich.
why didn't they just change the rice balls into doughnuts? i think that would have been legitimately easier to do.

I'm mainly prefer English dubs, because I really just don't have the patience for subs anymore. Subs aren't bad, but a majority of English dubs come out with either good or great quality, and there's rarely a mediocre or so bad is good one nowadays. That's fine by me and I don't binge watch anime like I did back in the late 2000s.

I really only watch subs when it's an old anime I'm familiar with and I know the sub is better because of a really bad dub. And even then I won't do it that often. A lot of these dub actors put in as much work as their Japanese counterparts. So long as the actual story and characters are good or entertaining, and that's all that matters. Depends on the type of anime as well too.

Every action game that stylizes itself after Devil May Cry or Bayonetta, needs a taunt button.

Partially why I don't bother with most PVP games.

I do respect the Yakuza series, but I for the life of me cannot get into the series combat. Before anyone starts, I did play 0. The mainline series sticking turn based combat has me even less invested, but I am happy for the series continuous success and gaining new audience.

This is less of a hot-take nowadays, but back during the 7th generation, some people got pissy with me on the IMDB forums when I claimed cover shooters with regenerating health/COD clones will age worse as time moves on and seen as way outdated compared to most old-school shooters from the 90s/early 2000s. I claimed that games like Vanquish and Bullestorm would age better than most of its contemporaries. They could not handle my opinions; especially this one dude who claimed COD and Uncharted franchise are better nearly all games or games of different genres. I was proven right. Out of all the old cover shooters to be ported to 8th gen consoles, Vanquish and Bulletstorm are the more noticeable ones and getting more appreciated each year.

Its ok to insult or make fun of others imo.

(I say this bc when I was in gbatemp people often treated me like that and I don't recall anyone complaining about it)

That's 'cause you bothered to use gbatemp.

I don't like public bantering.

Insulting is kinda admitting you're out of arguments and it's quite rude.

I don't care for Rules of Nature from Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance that much. It's good, but many other tracks are better.
Rules of Nature is a good song by itself but people that actually played the game have to admit that The Only Thing I Know For Real and The Stains of Time are already better.

Although my personal favourite is Return to Ashes and Collective Consciousness.

The NES port of YS 1 is good

it works the best the first time that it is used during the metal gear ray boss fight. and then the tracks afterwards just simply go up in intensity and awesomeness. so it's going to seem a bit underwhelming when the first song crashes through the roof in the first 20 minutes and the rest keep going up after it.

Yeah but the insults were more kinda passive-agressive.

The kind of insults that doesnt get you a warning

i hope it isnt just me but it feels like when it comes to (english) dubs, the work that goes into them feels kinda amateur which is why i ended up preferring the original language for most anything i watch/play.

this isnt to say that the concept is a waste though, if more people can watch or enjoy something then that's a win so long as that accessibility doesn't come at the cost of the original. dubs are unfortunately having to pull double duty since not only do you need to translate the text, it then has to be repurposed into something that works for that new language as well. this isn't even bringing into account that you'd also need actors and directors who understand the source material as well as you do for everything to come out as close to the initial text and its intent as feasibly possible.

in an ideal world, the localization and dubbing would be handled by or have the involvement of the author(s), but it's ridiculous to expect everyone to be multilingual and to the degree that they can clearly communicate the intent behind every line written to then make a suggestion that fits the character, story, and flow of the scene.

if there's a dub that can at least offer a good translation or good voice direction then i'll praise it because its kind of a miracle that happens, but the fact that it feels like a miracle is my problem with the output we've gotten lately.

they usually weren't given much time or money to make dubs and translations back in the day. and the amount of subtlety in japanese would and does still make it a nightmare to bring over into english. one single, simple little change in pronunciation or writing changes entire words or even sentences.
that's why 17 and 18 are called androids in the english dub, and cyborgs everywhere else. there was a bit of vagueness with the words 'artificial humans' and there are only so many ways to interpret that.
