Hot takes

That wasn't the hot take of mine, the hot take was earlier, and I said that the vast majority of the NES library is frankly trash.
The PS2 RPG thing was a reply to a convo I had with another user.
Okay then. Sorry for the confusion.

This whole "controversy" with Mixetape is ridiculous. while I have no interest in the game, I can see why people enjoy it. For those that don't like it, you already know what type of game this is at this point. So if you haven't bought it, there's no want to use screaming and raging about it. There are so many other games that can vie for your attention than this, and not constantly going online and screaming at a video just so you can feel smart.
I never had a real problem with Mixtape, the real problem for me is Annapurna being labeled indie while being funded by an employee's rich asf dad (like REALLY fucking rich dad).

I already know about her being rich, but effort and talent still went into these. Fine that people don't consider it indie, but I will never invalidate nor downplay the developers efforts. A team still needed to get this game running with the talent, skills, and art direction. They got a lot of heavy hitters and great games, under their belt. None of them graphics heavy and having art direction and distinct style first. They may not be indie, but they have the making of AA. It doesn't matter to me (not here to judge, because they're financially rich), so long as the people are treated right, and the money goes into to make new games that do their own thing, or are games meant for the single player experience. Story focused or not.

Yeah I like their games too but for me labeling themselves as indie is kinda misleading.
I hope they start calling themselves AA at least.

I know there's several people saying this but.

Visual novel without any other gameplay besides multiple choice and saving are not video game. It's a power point okay

And was it bad? Not really, i personally enjoy "playing" visual novel i mean who didn't enjoy an interesting and beautiful story. Still i don't acknowledge this type of visual novel as a video game.

And also i rarely found any visual novel without extra gameplay such as turn based battle or even as simple as crafting etc. Except for several Eroge i've played.

You're still interacting in some fashion or reaching some type of state based on decision making. Not my type of game, nor even visual novel, but I still consider them games.

Sega Genesis and Dreamcast says hello 👋 . Not their fault, they didn't jive with you. Sega Saturn was a great console and 2d powerhouse, but was marketed horribly outside of Japan with the stupid, "no 2d games" rule from that fool, Sega decided to hire after he got fired from Sony.
The Genesis was a cheap piece of plastic junk that blew-out its capacitors with a fart in the same building and a sound chip that required an electrical engineer to get anything remotely decent out of. Then they released the Model 3. But hey, it has BlaSt pR0sSiNg amirite1!1!!1 😆

The Dreamcast? Yeah, it was so great it nearly closed & bankrupted the entire bloody company. It had the worst security in gaming until the PSN. It had a loud-ass non-DVD drive that would wear-out under casual usage. It had a controller that was only slightly less clunky than the N64's (which ain't a compliment). Oh, but it did have bizarre "games" designed to sell a single peripheral! That counts, right?

Great points.
The Genesis sound chip issues were terrible, since I grew up with a model 2. Which we got broken second hand and my dad had to fix it to get it to work. Not to mention the Genesis (mod1/2) was the first and last Sega console I ever really played. I watched Strange Days in the 90s and I still never heard about the release of the Dreamcast. We had a PS1 and GBC at the time. Every Sega fan likes to talk about the famous release date, but I never head about it back then, and I still watched broadcast tv at the time. I never owned a Dreamcast, but I hate the controller just looking at it. The d-pad looks uncomfortable and that weird thing with the cable was strange and laughable. The VMU looked cool though. To this day I have never emulated anything on the Dreamcast. The console we got instead was the Gameboy Advance. So I have no nostalgia for the Dreamcast unfortunately.

Every console has their own flaws, but most Genesis/MDs I encountered work fine or still work today. Both my model 1 and model 2 work great. Circumstances are similar and different, but most of those work as long as you take of them. Wear and tear is a thing, but even the SNES had its own mess ups internally or due to age.

the Model 3.
Never needed it, so I really don't care. The sound chip wasn't the best, but there are plenty of rocking tunes and sounds. Developers just need to know how to utilize them. Some better than others, but people rag on like the Genesis never made any great songs and sounds. It tended to be US/EU/UK or western devs not using the sound system to its fullest extent. Not their fault inherently, but Sega of Japan could have done more to help guide them.

I acknowledge it flaws, but it has actual games that are still fun to play today and worth playing. Nowadays you can mod your Dreamcast, or pay someone to fix those issues. They're just not worth it to you.

But still it's somehow feels like i'm playing a powerpoint presentation instead of a game.

Xdqwerty shouldn't be allowed to comment here anymore , i get it's hot takes but goddammit that's not hot takes that's disastrous takes

Wrong: you just needed to not use GEMS to make something good sounding (which is basically 99% of Japan-made games and a good amount of western ones from composers that actually cared to make something out of the soundchip). It doesn't require an engineering degree just understanding that the default soundboard isn't recommended (which is what Sega has told devs to do in the first place)

Even some OSTs using it sounded good like Comix Zone and Ecco the Dolphin.

The Dreamcast? Yeah, it was so great it nearly closed & bankrupted the entire bloody company.
Correlation isn't causality: Sega never bankrupted but there were many external factors unrelated to the Dreamcast itself that lead them to stop production of hardware.

You shouldn't make assumptions like that and making false claims please, thanks.

As stated, you needed an electrical engineer to get the sound chip to not be an ear-grater.

For my point about the Dreamcast nearly bankrupting SEGA, you pointed out that the company didn't. But do you know why?

It's simple, really.

At the 57th minute of the 11th hour of the company, SEGA received a substantial monetary gift by Isao Okawa (on his deathbed, no less) that allowed SEGA to pay their debts incurred by the Dreamcast. Well, not exactly. See, Isao Okawa was also the CEO of SEGA's parent company (CSK), who (again on his death bed, mind), forgave SEGA's $500,000,000 debt incurred then gifted $695,000,000 of his personal stock to save SEGA.

This is straight causality. To claim otherwise is revisionist history and bad faith.

Most people who complain that "Anime/manga doesn't have good female characters" only watch/reed Popular battle shounen

No, just being a good composer with the right tool, no need to reverse engineer the soundchip or anything.

Also I'd argue that there are still a ton of good OSTs on that console.

The Dreamcast was not the sole factor for that though, in fact it wasn't even the biggest factor for them to stop producing consoles.

But even with that context that doesn't mean the console wasn't good either.

Who said anything about "reverse engineering" anything? I stated being an electrical engineer - either with a degree or self-taught. Significant difference there.

The failure of the Dreamcast wasn't the biggest reason to leave the console market? Oh, I...suppose? I mean, technically is was their near-bankruptcy and the near-closure of their company if not for receiving death-bed money & debt waivers that caused SEGA to bow-out of being a console maker. Which was caused primarily by...the failure of the Dreamcast. 👽

Keep trying to re-word my statements, the fact remains the same.

Neither are needed to make good music, how many OSTs have you listened to?

You forgot about Shenmue costing a leg (which started dev before the Dreamcast came out) and how arcade stopped bringing as much money.

Anyway, that doesn't mean the Dreamcast is a bad console whatsoever.

That's not even a hot take; it's a fact of life. Always has been. They also probably never seen FMA Manga nor FMA Brotherhood.

Because I already covered that.

Onto to much important matters and people with actual brains...

I can agree with Noisy Pixels on this, and shows why review embargoes are full of shit.

This is from a few days ago, and the game is already selling gangbusters. Shows that First Light is more than a "shallow Uncharted clone" some bitches online were spouting without actually playing anything.

Back with a hot take: Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 are not very good. 1 controls like a cow in a shopping cart, and 2 tricks you with the "two stories" thing and then gives you identical game play on both sides.

SA2 is still way more fun and engaging on the gameplay, character, and story front at least. SA1 is only fun the first time through, or when you're not doing the fucking Big stages with fishing no one asked for. At least SA2 does not do that. Both are still better than Sonic Heroes, and Heroes has the actual worst padding of the three of even getting the true ending/final boss.

Next time I play Heroes I'll probably use a cheat to unlock everything once I'm done with Team Sonic. I am eager to see a proper remake or even a decompilation/recompilation like Unleashed got.

SADX screwed the game even more (both with the lighting engine but the collisions as well). I suspect they used a previous build (the "Japanese 1.0" one) to make SADX on top instead of the US or even the International build. Some of the things the first one did better was that Tails wasn't stuck on his mech, that the Shooting stages were better in most cases (especially when Gamma is floatier and easier to manoeuvre than Eggman), how the Treasure Hunt allowed you to see more than one Emerald Shard at once (I dislike how they nerfed it and how big the levels were in SA2) and how you could do Sonic's campaign in one sitting (without having to swap character and gameplay style). Big's levels are easier when you see the tutorial (something most people are skipping) but I'd play Sega Bass and Marine Fishing already. As for Amy I think she could've been a little bit faster but she gave some dynamic about how she was stalked, too bad her only actually good level is Final Egg due to the puzzles and progression (sorry Fakery Way but that level was too linear and outside of the creepy music and mirror puzzle there was nothing big about it).

The Borderlands I don't find funny at all. Even Borderlands 2, aside from about two jokes.
