Does this count as a hot take? A fair number of people who liked the game have said at least some of the same things. I personally hated it. It's one of those obnoxious games that insists it's important and serious without actually being serious or important.god of war ps4 sucks, the story is nonexistent, characters are at best mediocre and at worst annoying, that bearded bald guy is Kratus in name only, characters and settings are tonally inconsistent, gameplay is janky and stiff, camera placement is horrible, every puzzle is a pushover, difficulty is super artificial due to the change in genre, and I didn't like any of the boss fights
I can talk about how much I hate this game for 10 hours because I am so disappointed
Depends on the person, but people who really hate on GoW (2018), tend to over exaggerate, or only focus on those specific flaws. GoW4 is great game, despite some issues I have with it. Ragnarok is better, but I did everything I wanted both titles, and won't be coming back anytime soon. I still have the save files for both, just in case. I do like Evil West more than GoW4 and Rag, The former clearly models itself after the latter two, but with arcade 3rd person shooting mixed in with the brawling.Does this count as a hot take?
I disagree. I think GoW 2016 aka Dad of Boy was made from a philosophy of "We need to evolve Kratos" as was detailed in the Raising Kratos documentary. Gameplay wise, it is not so different from any Zelda or Metroidvania. GoW 2016 is excellent, far better than Ragnarok imo, because it has just the right size of world map. It doesn't outstay its welcome. The puzzles and combat challenges are all very well realised. My main problems with it is that, when playing on higher difficulties, it makes every enemy feel like a boss, which is fine, but doing chip damage as the God of War feels a little out of character. My other complaints all concern characterisation. The characters are written to be more 3 dimensional than anything that came before. Which works with NPC's like Tyr, but I feel Kratos especially loses too much of an edge, and could stand to be a little less morose for about 10-15% of the game's runtime.God of War PS4 is the first game to have that whole "we need to evolve video games" mindset that harms gaming as a whole...
Could you elaborate?God of War PS4 is the first game to have that whole "we need to evolve video games" mindset that harms gaming as a whole...
I apologize in advance but I am in fact legally obligated by law to equip my big thick nerd glasses and correct that that game was ackshually released in 2018GoW 2016

I genuinely did not like God of War 2018. I hate when things loudly signal how important and serious they are while, in this case, also being a shallow, overtly silly, slog of game. Honestly, I do get why people would enjoy it. I'm not hating on any individual or saying I hold some sacred, objective truth, but I was so bored I quit in the third act.Depends on the person, but people who really hate on GoW (2018), tend to over exaggerate, or only focus on those specific flaws. I honestly see no point in getting an NES classic or SNES classic. I either have better versions of games, compilation packs, or better classic consoles with more features. I know both of these sold well, but they were overpriced and made in limited qualities. I actually know some places that got them used and in good condition, but they're still not worth the asking price. It doesn't help especially, that most of the games on the SNES classic I have zero interest in, and a few that I do I already got them on the GBA, or they're part of the Castlevania or Contra Collection. Not to mention, I got an RG35XXH two years ago, negating ever needing an NES/SNES classic even further.
Video game preservation is just as important as movies, tvs, books, and music. I don't care how fast the technology changes, those steps to getting there just as important. Even if the game is outdated, preservation is still nice to put in a museum for history reasons and so on. The other problem with preservation or people's lack of commitment to it, is certain greedy publishers and developers, who just want to hold the license over just to be dicks about it. Nintendo being the biggest offender of this. You old, greedy fucks!

I don't consider Scott Pilgrim a good brawler, let alone a spiritual successor to the River City/Kunio-Kun franchise. The game is indecisive on what it wants to be. The game wants to be linear, while having RPG elements at the same time. Neither is done well. Enemies are too spongey and certain stages go on forever. The game should have been an open 2D sandbox brawler like River City, or just a linear brawler without the RPG elements. Now with so many brawlers out, and the return of the River City franchise with RC Girls, I find it even more pointless to play Scott Pilgrim.
A hot take on God of War Ascension's combat is how it does the whole "Don't get hit to unlock moves that were already default moves in past games" mechanic. That was done better in Killer Is Dead and No More Heroes 3. The only difference being your moves weren't exactly locked out. KID had it where the higher you combo without getting hit, the more damage you could do and execute 1 of 4 optional finishers that upgraded your stats. There is an upgrade that extends your sword limiter and allows you to do more damaging moves.
No More Heroes 3 has a similar thing, except your move sets aren't locked behind it either. Travis's beam katan gets more powerful and extends in length the more hits you make, and not taking damage. Whenever you get it hit, meter goes down. The meter is represented by kitty (weakest) to red tiger (strongest), and it is awesome!
Why do some people or certain online critics keep saying "Nobody plays No More Heroes for the combat"? The combat in these games are not perfect, but they're definitely nowhere near close to bad. You ain't just randomly button mashing. I'm only saying this, because K. Bash is now getting on this rhetoric. Dude, you have cool videos, and while it is true people play these games for the story and characters, and the whacked out stuff, the combat has to at least be engaging on some level and fun. I find all these games have a good or great combat. Obviously the series is not something like DMC, NG, or even God of War. But so what? I've had more fun with the NMH games, than all the Ninja Gaidens and God of Wars combined.
This is why the bang for your buck phrase is such a toxic mentality. I still recommend anyone in this thread watch both.
Are we talking about the same game? Because your version sounds awesome.I disagree. I prefer Gungrave and Gungrave GORE (the PS5/Series X/PC version with all of the proper updates) over any of the GoW games. That said, I hate Overdose and can't stand it. I have a complete boxed copy of the first game and GORE. The first game I got for $5 at GameStop back in 2007. I used to have Overdose, but sold it back in 2020. BTW, Iggymob is remaking GORE in UE5 this time. Now I loves me some Gungrave. I have CIB copies of 1 and 2, and the limited edition artbook. That being said I can understand why people would turn their noses up at it, but it has something God of War 2018 doesn't which is balls and a weird, creative spark.
GoW4 and Ragnarok have balls and creative spark. They chose to go in a different direction that works for them, no different from Gungrave. It all boils down to personal preference. That's it.God of War 2018 doesn't which is balls and a weird, creative spark.
That children game punishes you very hardly for dying , which is ridiculousNi No Kuni is basically a children's game where you've seen everything it has to offer in the first town. It also doesn't trust you to figure anything out on your own.
I stand erecte-uhh, corrected.![]()
Classic Mega Man and Mega Man X aren't the same person?Hot sauce is the best sauce.

The first GG is still my personal favorite of the franchise and the best of the three mainline games.

Overdose is love it or hate it territory, but most fans don't like it nowadays and that game has aged the worst.Gungrave but not Overdose? Now that is a hot take.
When was this stated? (not a snarky question, legit curious because I haven't played through all the games yet, and I don't remember that being said in X1)Yeah, their implied and later stated to be different robots. Since the first X game.
I don't remember everything, but all know is in the Japanse manual of the first game, it's made clear X is completely different from Rock. While the SNES version only seems to imply it. Later games make it clear in their respective manual for the English translations. You're gonna want to check the wiki sites though. When was this stated? Interesting. I always had more of an affinity for the first one, but I love both. Overdose, to me anyways, feels like expanding on the existing premise/mechanics. Phrasing it as fixing what wasn't broken seems a bit odd.Overdose is love it or hate it territory, but most fans don't like it nowadays and that game has aged the worst.
I had no idea. I've only ever played the first Mega Man X and I don't think I ever owned a SNES copy. I likely would have rented it back in the day. I've been meaning to go through the series at some point though.I don't remember everything, but all know is in the Japanse manual of the first game, it's made clear X is completely different from Rock.
