I’m surprised a discussion about a rather polarizing topic made in bad faith has survived this long without getting locked.

I’m generally averse to AI though, especially when it comes to almost everything. If I want artwork then I’ll commission an artist, if I want code then I’ll code something myself, if I want knowledge I’ll look it up online and check my sources like I’ve been taught in school. The only use case for me would be translating from different languages.

Personally, AI was a fun novelty back in 2023 but now I’m getting real tired of it being everywhere.

AI as this thing that "even's the playing field"
most of the points against ai have already been made here but this is something i didnt see mentioned yet.

the excuse that non talented people can do what talented people can now is very bullshit to me because talent isnt really a thing.
you can be naturally good at something but even then you only have a super basic, rudimentary grasp on a skill unless you refine it. when i get called "talented" it undermines the efforts and lessons i learned up to this point and is why i hate that phrase. to have the journey i went through brushed off as something given to me rather than earned over years is immensely frustrating.

llms and image generators lack any real use case and the creative field has a very clear and obvious stance on its inclusion. it sucks and even when the product looks "fine" its obvious that something is missing to those who care. we put way more effort into things than is immediately obvious across most fields and ai flies in the face of that. its a collection of ideas without any specific nuance because it isnt being asked to interpret anything and is not what the models are being trained to do. i dont see the current landscape as something that will magically revert to before so the best we can hope for is that there are more people who give a shit about intent over "progress"

I agree that the whole "talent" thing would make some not care about training because they think they lack talent and people who are good at something got their efforts undermined as you said.

Also I believe that AI is not good at all at what it's trying to do.

What i think most people do not take into account is that ai is not capable of "innovation", it can only take data it has farmed, usually from other media and info sources and regurgitate it, while this has uses (for example, finding holes in innovation we've overlooked) ai is NOT capable of creating anything new, only placing together pieces already existing, this is why ai art almost always looks similar to other art, it essentially is, same with ai music.

My point is, any company that becomes fully ai is doomed to stagnate, ai has it's uses but we do not have a "self learning" ai, much less a "advanced general intellegence" which like fusion, is still 20 years away.

And no, ai is not sentient, if ai becomes sentient in it's current form i would be more inclined it's a psy-op.

Has anyone actually made the claim that it is sentient? I've never seen that mentioned anywhere, not even as a shitpost.

Multiple people have claimed it, on page 10 brawlman posted that richard dawkins thinks it's conscious, so yeah, there are alot of fools out there who don't know what a intelligent being is.

I have no problem with it, but I also have no interest in it. I just hope that certain powerful people don't have any foolish intentions behind it.

It still helps me with on-the-fly corrections for sentences, mails and articles written in languages I have not yet mastered, and I learn a lot each and every time it shows me my mistakes and WHY I made them.

I mean they are basically telling them they have no future work prospects because ai is gonna take their jobs, so it's not surprising.

I don't think ai will take all the jobs, but the reaction is very understandable when someone who doesn't know the situation speaks on it either.

Spotify got real bad now.

A town voted against a AI data center, and they still start a construction the next day. Someone in power and part the government let these fools do what they want, even though the people are all against it.

AI Execs running the 1948 circus scam.

Tbh if it was real ai like something really can think it would be cool but ai name is a scam here there is no intelligance here They are just large language models they dont think If real ai would release someday people probly will pass on it cuz they think ai is smt making sloppy drawings or a chatbot who talks to people no real thinking in ai can be seen here

Sure, I honestly don't care about it. It's not going anywhere.

However, I don't like the fact that some people assume everything is AI. I recently had some of my work taken down. I worked very hard on it, spent hours fixing errors to make it perfect for them. I coded a slideshow in CSS alone (the site doesn't allow Javascript) for her to show off the pictures of Vox (she is also a Hazbin fan) to make it look like a TV. But nope, someone reported my hard work, despite the fact that there are tons of other layouts on that site that are similar. They probably plugged it into an AI.. asking if it's AI. My CSS comments are quite specific, so perhaps they thought an AI was organizing it and doing it. But those AI sites are sensitive anyway.

Also, how could an AI alone think of an idea for a Hazbin related layout that was as complex as I made it? The slideshow "TV" consisted of a typing animation, as if someone were typing in the box, such as "Trust us with your x", "Lighting a cigarette for Valentino.." etc. What prompt alone could specifically DESCRIBE that? No, it came from my head and my head alone. I don't get how someone can assume it's made from AI. My friend opened a ticket about it to the moderators and it still sits unclaimed for two days. And you know what? They probably won't answer because they don't have proof. Someone probably threw a shit fit over it. But I take that as a compliment, tbh. Not an insult. Maybe they were jealous or some shit. I remained anonymous when I made it, so five million people wouldn't come asking me for themes because I can only do so much. And I am thankful for that because then I would have mods on my ass.

I don't use AI for my coding. I don't use AI for my art. I never have and never will. What happened recently disgusted me. I don't get mad easily, I'm just here vibing bro. I grew up in a house where my mother didn't encourage my creativity. But that's a story for another day. The only person who encouraged me was my grandmother. I started out with drawing Lion King and worked my WHOLE LIFE to get where I am today. She would hang up the pictures I thought were horrible, but she loved them anyway. And you know what? If she had not encouraged me until the day she died, I wouldn't be here doing what I am now. I wouldn't be making art, and I certainly wouldn't be coding complex things. If you insult my work, you're insulting my heart.

I grew up with very little access to information, that always meant having to go to the library for information, buying internet service that only lasted hours, so I had to know what information to look for and what questions to ask for in order to get the appropriate answer before I ran out of time.

AI reminds me to those times, I use it mostly to ASK THE RIGHT QUESTIONS to get information.
I love it, honestly.

EDIT: NO I DON'T BLINDLY BELIEVE ANYTHING AI OUTPUTS.
It's just another tool.

Florida also recently started regulating ai data centers, but it didn't go as national as the illinois bill, mainly since data centers have been fairly disliked in florida since before ai.

I use it quite a lot.

It is really useful to get information and solve problems.

For example: A couple of days I wanted to install Battlefield 1942 on my linux system using wine. EVERYONE just say 'It doesnt work, just copy the files', but Im on Linux to do more, not less than Windows. And I read some old post of people normally swaping disc during installations, so why not now?

I was literally like this:
tenor.gif

Long story short:
- Rettardit: 'Not possible'
- Old Arch forum: 'Yeah just follow this guide: [Broken link]"
- ChatGPT read from Rettardit and it was 'Nah fam... not possible'
- I asked on the wine forums: no one answered

UNTIL the AI manged to read one error (on one of my 100th iterations of the install) and it was just a wine process that was doing nothing but making my life harder and just sit on the drive for no reason.

On the plus side I learned a lot of how to use wine, and how to correctly use AI. It will fall for even more stupid things than us, but with some good handling it will boos everything you want to do, with the key word "you" since as an AI it wont be able to create or do many thing on its own, but it can assist you.

Scared no never been only people that have 0 understanding of something is scared.

My attitude is I don´t give a fuck. Fear mongers will keep fear mongering, Companies will do what every they can to make more money and nothing we say will change that what so ever.

I just let people sit and hate and be angry and companies can keep doing what they wish I don´t give a fuck I just wanna play good games and watch anime till I die.

You could've said it without using the r-word.

With that passivity they could do much, much worse and you'll eventually get affected.
