Has anyone else been feeling more positive spending time here instead of other social media?

I don't use social media. I used Live Journal back when it came out. But that was the closest I've gotten. And Pitas if anyone remembers that.

This is one so far the only place I've seen in recent times that does not allow politics. That's m main reason for enjoying it other than the repo. I can know that my forum browsing will be politics free. Feels so good to get away from that stuff.

I've left Reddit about a year ago, haven't been doing much Lemmy (what I replaced Reddit with) I never really used twitter and haven't been much in my Fediverse page. But yeah I keep coming back here every now and then, check a couple threads then leave. The only "social media" I really stay on a lot is Discord to chat with my friends. Been trying to get out of doom scrolling a while now.

I've yet to come across a post that makes me feel bad yet on here. Granted I'm not on here much, but from what I see this seems like a positive community.

I think that in general you know that in forums you're gonna find people who like the same things as you, plus I think the way forums work don't allow the kind of posting social media does.

It's refreshing, I'm in a couple of forums already and I feel like I need to be in more.

It's not just you. I've said it several times before, this place feels so friendly and welcoming and it's a combination of the great work the mods have done and the wonderful userbase.

You all are so wonderful, even if you don't think so!

Yeah. I left twitter just before that site turned into the hellscape it is now, and like outside of occasional tumblr scrolling, I don't use anything

Not "positive", but I like the vibes here a lot more than the rest of the internet, to be honest, I never used forums that much, but I always loved CDRo***** (I don't know if I can say the name lol) and the idea surrounding the site, so when Spike created this forum, I liked the idea a lot, so once in a while I come here to read some threads and answer others, I hope it stays this way.

I've always loathed social media and would much rather indulge in a delightful forum like this.

Even back in the Facebook era, wading through endless threads seemed far more enticing than the fleeting narcissism of a tweet or the overwhelming overexposure of your breakfast on Instagram. After all, who wouldn’t want to plunge headfirst into a veritable graveyard of discussions, where arguments fester like unhealed wounds and every comment is a symphony of despair?

At least here, the chance of your insights and thoughts vanishing into the void are slightly less.

Using social media is like opting for a five-course meal of existential dread rather than a forum that is more akin to a sugary snack of instant gratification.

Such a tasteful choice... a delightful descent into niche obscurity; it’s bound to be quite the spectacle!

i love this site and his users, but let's be honest the mods here can be sometimes (a lot of times) very jumpy to close threads and yell at users XD (i understand why, it's their jobs), like the Jhonny Somali thread it was like 10 post of people just talking and it got closed before anything happend.

I don't get it – why do people doomscroll? Why don't you just stop using the app if you don't like it anymore? Before I was on RGT, I used precisely zero social media platforms, and it's going to stay that way because they're all full of the same slop, regardless of what the app's name and layout is.
As a former doom-scroller, its the constant dopamine. Here, where there's actual interaction? It's soooo boooring, having to get used to a slow stream of it every one in a while. But on, let's say, Instagram? No fuss, no muss. Straight to the brain!
But in all seriousness, this place is pretty chill, and I vastly prefer this over the divisive, vitriolic battlefield known as Twitter. And I love having civil conversations!

Five years ago I deleted all of my social media accounts and never looked back until late last year. I experimented in what I considered gray areas with reddit and of course I watch youtube to keep up on the latest technologies. Reddit reminded me of what the world is mostly like so I stepped away. Cdromance was a place I visited for years so I am here and giving back now in whatever way I can.

I've been on Reddit a lot less recently because this forum is here. I feel like this is so much less toxic and damaging to my psyche. Doomscrolling is super real.
Then you better start gatekeeping this little community with your life to retain its identity and only invite those fitting before less favourable people "jumpship" carrying over bad habits from other social media and setting bots all over this little place (granted RGT being made because was because CDromance started gaining traction due to """"retro gaming"""" youtubers making ROM videos)

I'll be honest. I never had the usual social media accounts (facebook, instagram, what have you) and I've no intention of ever getting any of these. The only reason I even have a Twitter account is to follow fan game creators and romhack/fantranslation creators.

I used to use Reddit somewhat regularly but I almost never go there now. I like what we have here, and I think forums naturally foster this kind of positive tightly knit community if everyone puts in the effort (and everyone has been).

I don't tell people shit about this kind of stuff that I find. I happened upon this site and only told my partner, and he both has no idea what the actual title and URL are, and he has no interest in forums.

I know better than that. I don't want what happened to Vimm's Lair to happen here. Fkn tiktok idiots plastering stuff all over social media so it gets hit with DMCA. So stupid.

It was closed because the OP used r-slur.

I mean there have been instances where I see people say nigga on here and granted I've only seen Chad Warden said it some while ago and me just now
so if anything I'm guessing that the thread was closed because of Johnny Somali and OP maybe attempt to ragebait

I avoided social media years ago except youtube and WhatsApp ( if you call it social media ) . This stuff just crushes you mentally with posts of people you knew and their dishonesty while faking their perfect lifes to spread jealousy and envy to farm it for clout .

From the other side there are people which stay in their hateful misery 24/7 with their political stuff , extreme delusions , shallow perceptions , overloaded victimhood and superficial name-calling and often for microscopic things .

But this forum is more concentrated towards Retrogames and i liked the chill , friendly and engaging community of it . Its not about likes , clout , artificial masks of false people , politics , sexuality and superficial idiocy .

Just people who play videogames and love for their hobbies . Nothing more , nothing less. Individuals , not flesh automatons addicted to fame .

This is my first time in a forum and in any social media, so I can't say that this is better 100% . But I can say that every interaction that I had with another user was a friendly and helpful one

Definitely...over a year ago, I got to where I deleted the apps off of my phone. This helped a lot, especially when I would see horrible news going in the world and it would ruin my days. Now I'll check the desktop version of the sites from time to time. You can get so much more enjoyment out of playing games or even being on here and actively interacting.
