Has anyone else been feeling more positive spending time here instead of other social media?

I've been trying to move away from social media for some time now. I hate how ubiquitous they became to the point that the became the de facto reason for using the Internet for most of people.

I also dislike how "me-centered" they make the online interactions. Everywhere you go you see people posting about themselves: how awesome was their trip, how fancy is the food they're eating, how cool is their new car, so on and so forth.

I think Twitter, Instagem and Reddit are the worst offenders. It feels like people on those sites aren't interacting and only try build an audience. The content dosen't matter, only getting clout. It's shallow and unhealthy

I want to experience the Internet BEYOND this ego paranoia.

That's why I like forums. Here, the subject is the focus and people get around it. It's not about the user, its about what people are passionate about

I've been on Reddit a lot less recently because this forum is here. I feel like this is so much less toxic and damaging to my psyche. Doomscrolling is super real.

I'm noticing it's a really hard habit to break, grabbing my phone whenever I have a little down time.
i felt this too but while playing the .hack games, currently on //GU Redemption

I never had a interest in any form of social midia, because i never felt like it was never worth it to lose time on it and i need time for gaming + studies.
But this forum is a incredible place to talk, share experienses, laugh at funny shit and to knew new people.
Forums are just the best experiense for genuine conversation and bounding.
I love this place and i hope it never gets abandoned::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin

I'm glad I started using this site. I believe that the format of a forum like this greatly outweighs any of the big social media platforms in terms of idk i guess hanging out with strangers online. It generally encourages people to engage with each other before engaging with the site, if that makes sense.

Social media as a whole has been overtaken by consumerism and ads. For example, on instagram it feels like the majority of posts are there to sell something. Even if it's not clear what's being sold, you can just tell there's a nebulous sort of product there. It's weird, and minimizes proper human connections from happening. People post for an intangible 'audience'. They post for the platform first, their friends second. Even many of my niche lil artist friends and the like get sucked into this whole posting only thru the lens of instagram style marketability. As an artist, I've been there and it sucks. You're kinda forced to because it's so hard to resist the potential "lottery" aspect of social media (I may be biased towards this interpretation, as I've mostly worked min wage jobs and almost never have health coverage).

But yeah anyway, modern social media platforms are parasitic and suck very hard. I'm slowly getting more and more offline, and it makes me happy some dedicated forum sites like this one are still around.

Absolutely agree with you! Also I think the design is so chill and relaxing. I don't feel like I'm being overloaded with information, its sort of - just come in drop by.

I don't get it – why do people doomscroll? Why don't you just stop using the app if you don't like it anymore? Before I was on RGT, I used precisely zero social media platforms, and it's going to stay that way because they're all full of the same slop, regardless of what the app's name and layout is.
It's like gambling. Maybe I'll hit an amazing post if I scroll just a bit more.

Not really, all internet social medias are pretty much equally toxic to your mental health. This place just less so because people here are kinda less confrontational about stating their opinions.

As much as I hate to say it, those people were right — you do need a LinkedIn profile for a lot of today’s white-collar jobs, especially if they don’t involve coding. The site’s userbase is completely disingenuous, and it pushes waaaaay too much paid BS on you, and the Jobs board is atrocious, and there’s a ton of spam… but employers do look at it when you’re applying for a job, and having an updated profile is very important. I can tell you that from personal, first-hand experience.
Linkedin is the "Corporate Memphis" of social media

This is more down to earth than FB, Twitter and whatever the hell IG or Reddit has, and lot less socially devoid than Quora.

Forums are a nice way to interact with communities of your hobbies without brain rotting on tiktok/Instagram. Being here is so much better and I feel the same

Yeah, they have designed the app that way. It's similar to snoozing your alarm when you can wake up right now

is because internet is full of garbage nowadays

I think it differs from each country, my LinkedIn is still listed as unemployed despite I already have a job for more than 5 years. It is a pretty effective tool for psychological warfare though, I regularly use it for my keikaku.

*TL Note: keikaku means plan.

I just browse here mostly but this is basically just how forums were in the 2000s things changed in the 2010s.
Yeah, that's how I'd describe it from the little time that I've spent here - like the video game forums I visited as a teen in the mid-2000s. Before "culture wars" bullshit started infesting every online space. Don't know how much that's down to the mods doing a good job or the crowd here just being decent sorts, but it's nice.

Just adding that I had used Reddit for years and don't think I ever made a single friend on it. Meanwhile, I've made a bunch of friends on here in just a couple months. Forums just have that more personal feel.

As pretty much everyone said, this place is a less toxic place than most massive social media webpages, since this place is far smaller everyone can get to know each other and I guess that creates a stronger sense of community.

Also, there is some sort of filter because people who really wants to be in a forum about their specific likings like this one has to actively look for one instead of just going to FB, Twitter or Reddit

Absolutely!! I've been shifting away from social media for a while now, trying to adopt more better ways of being on the internet. Going on forums, running a website, etc. Been off of most social for about a year now, for certain platforms even longer. Hope to continue this, really enjoy yall on here!! ^^
